I’ve been working on my ball position recently and I’ve been told that if the balls in my centre but I open or close my stance, this will affect the ball position. Is that correct as it still looks central to me?

Good question. I always thought it was an optical illusion thing. Obviously the ball doesn't move.

My concern was always where the low point in my swing was when using, an open, or closed stance. I'd take a few practice swings to see the low point, then adjust stance to fit the ball position.

Yes, the ball position changes when you are more "open" or "closed."

Consider the extreme - you "open up" 90°. The ball is now two feet behind your back foot.

This is one of the reasons why I teach pitching the way I do - by setting up to the handle, not setting up "open."

Yes, it will be more forward if you close your stance and more back if you open.

It probably looks centered to you because it's the object you're focusing your vision on.

It doesn't move, but where it lies relative to your sternum changes, effectively changing its position in relation to your stance.
