TW's demeanor sure has changed.  It was all meek and mild, just glad to be back swinging a club and playing, now obvious frown and irritation.  I don't think this will serve him well.  He'll start pressing more, swing harder from bad lies, and increase the likelihood of "the tweak".

On the contrary. I think it will serve him well. Tiger has always played well when he's slightly pissed off.

Serve him well for a short run perhaps.  If the back goes out again, it's very likely his epilogue on tour.

I feel like you don't understand the type of surgery he had.

Lots of repeated torque on an weak and historically problematic area. My point is that he's had multiple surgeries on a part of the body that golf is not particularly kind to and may risk another injury if he pushes to hard, to fast.

Again, I feel as though you don't understand the type of surgery he just had.

This. And to be honest @fishgolf I don't want to explain it but here's what you can google to read if interested. MIS-ALIF is the surgery Tiger had. Minimally Invasive Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion. He had it L5-S1

He's fine, probably for a decade or so. He had two vertebrae - with very little rotational range of motion between them - fused with a titanium (I think) spacer that will prevent them from pinching the nerves again; the spacer replaced the compromised disc.

It's now basically one vertebrae instead of two. Golfers have had this done in the past and lasted a long, long time.

This compromised disc was the source of all of his previous back pain.

He underwent his recovery this time, seemingly following ALL of the doctor's orders, and was cleared at every step to do the activities he was doing. He followed the letter of the law this time because he literally feared for his ability to live the rest of his life, let alone play PGA Tour level golf again.

His back is not a concern. Not any more of a concern than Phil's back, or Sergio's back, or Rory's, or Jason Day's (well, maybe even less than Jason Day's, as that guy is injured every other tournament).

But his problem today was putting. He immediately went to the putting green after the round. He played the long game pretty well today, though a bit wide on some tee shots. He doesn't have to swing harder to shoot 4 shots lower today, he just has to putt better. Looks like he'll be in the fourth last group out tomorrow.

So you're convinced his back surgeries are so insignificant that there is no risk... excellent, got it.

That's not what I said.

I said that you seem to be unaware of the type of surgery he had most recently, the histories of other golfers who have had that same or similar surgeries… and that Tiger followed his doctor's orders very closely this time around.

And like @Zeph points out, his frustration is not with his ballstriking (full swing), but with his putting.

This is the part we’re addressing. You are incorrect. The problem area is now gone and in fact is actually stronger than before but less ‘flexible’. Tiger and all other golfers out there can have back problems as the nature of the sport. Yes. But by Tiger playing golf he isn’t going to ‘tweak’ his back in that area that was fused.

Tiger also had all the good points of this surgery being successful. His age, general health and the fact that it was done at the bottom so no further degeneration will occur along with being anterior....meaning the surgeon entered through the abdominal wall and not the back which can disrupt the surrounding muscle thus decreasing the effectiveness of pain relief.

Good to see The Scientist up top!

“It's end range of motion work,” he said. “I'm not going to give too much away, but it's got to do with anatomical limits of your body and how you can best utilize them for your proprioception. How about that?”

- Dechambeau.

I’m just not a fan at all. Shut up and play. He’s not a scientist. He appears to me as more a Ralph Kramden of golf.

So who do you guys think takes the victory tomorrow? What’s your prediction on Tigs finish?

I don’t really have a good feel on who who will make the last day run, but I see Tigs in the top 5, if he can at least have a average day on the greens.
