After having the flu and was stuck in bed over the thanksgiving holidays, I had a lot of time to review many different balls. I settled on the Srixon Q-Star Tour. Finally got to try them today. WOW is all I can say. For about half the price of Pro V1, you can’t beat these bad boys. I would feel comfortable betting money that if you teed one up, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. I like the way they play on the Green better too.

All premium balls are within 2 percent of each other in all categories these days.

Agree to disagree. I bought a dozen of TP5X, and absolutely hated them. But I know what you’re saying.

I didn't say they all feel the same. But people equate feel to performance. For example, if a ball feels soft they automatically equate it to more greenside spin. Harder balls? Prolly fly further.. etc..

I have played PV-1s in the past. Great ball, but for my swing/game, just not worth the extra coins.

I have also played Srixon balls in the past, but not the one the OP listed. Found them all to be quite playable too. Actually I can't remember ever playing a "poor quality" ball. My scores stayed about the same, relative to how I was playing at the time.

I will just stay with my cheapie Bridgestones untill I am done playing. .

If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.

If you like those, you should also try Maxfli U6.

For about $32.00/dozen, they're worth it.

In my bag Driver: Cleveland CG tour black Fairway Woods: Diablo Octane 3 wood; Diablo 5 wood Irons: Mizuno MP53 5-9 Hybrid: Cobra 3, 4 T-Rail Wedge: 46* Cleveland, 50* Cleveland, 54* Titleist, 60* Titleist Putter: Odyssey protype #6 Ball: Maxfli U4/U6... But I'm not really picky about the ball I use.

I hit some of the old Srixon Q-Stars and liked them. I like the Titleist AVX better. In all honestly, I probably could not tell the difference in my score, but balls are just as personal as any other equipment.  I think I hit the AVX about a half club longer with my irons than anything I have tried. Your mileage may vary-that's why all brands are able to sell a few.

I've played them, not a bad ball, but I think they are shorter off the driver than the Titleist for me. Like someone said most of the Tour balls are pretty close to one another, its more about finding one that fits your needs for spin and feel. Whats best for one person might not be the best for someone else. Some people need the extra spin off the driver, some people need a little less spin off the wedges. You play around until you get one you like in your budget. I prefer the Titleist AVX, except in the winter I play ProV1x.

    • Hopefully this one is better
    • Patrick Cantlay's strokes gained from 2024: I wonder if he takes more time on approach shots given that was the worst part of his game last season. And then here are his 2023 stats: Much better ball striking season. I wonder if there are any differences in his times between these two seasons. I tend to think he's just slow in general, but it'd be interesting to see his time differences.
    • Not sure, I think players have their own pace. Speith was always slow, regardless if he was in contention or not. Well, more so when he was in contention. It might be a push there on that question.
    • Without knowing the study at all, this could be more of a reflection of who is tournament ready and who isn't. If you have a quick trigger, it could mean your swing is working really well. Fidgeting, lots of rehearsals, maybe means your swing's not functioning as well as you'd like it to and you need more time to feel it all out before you hit your shot.
    • A study done by the European Tour shows spending less time over the ball produces better shots.  This makes sense. I can see where if you are over the ball a long time you lose the ability to make a more athletic swing. There is also the possibility of just overthinking the shot while over the wall as well and not being in the right headspace.
