Be careful when counting total putts per round... that can be very misleading.  Do what the pros do... calculate "strokes gained".  That is a far better indicator of how well you are putting.

Yeah, I was starting to get stats in GG with 45% GIR while my actual is only around 38%. Kidding aside, my putting did actually improve by something like 2-3 strokes. 😁

My near green stats are over 50% or more with greens at 38%, and on hikes where things go wrong they can really go wrong unless I just tell myself to put it back on the fairway. 😇

My problem today is basically the same as it was when I was younger. Not getting the ball to the hole, or failing to adjust to different green speeds.

Played in a local tourney last year with everyone playing at Mill Creek on the first day. I was there early and saw them cutting and rolling the greens, so I thought they might be a little quicker than usual. Nope! The eventual winner of our age/handicap bracket was in my group. He told me, "Jeez, you read the line beautifully, you just leave it short!"

The next day we played Youngstown Country Club. The greens there are like glass compared to Mill Creek!  I spent 90% of my warm up time on the practice green. I discovered that what I'd heard about the course was true. You do not want to be above the hole! On one green I putted a ball from about 30 feet behind the hole, over 20 feet past the hole and off the green!

Needless to say, I did not make the cut!

Would we all pick up 5-7 strokes per round if we had the honor of having Matt Kuchar putt for us???

I'd lose some.

As I've aged and become more of a "pitch and putt for a par/bogie" senior, I've found that my 3-putt rate has declined. Sadly don't have a lot of birdie opportunities now but with decent chipping I'm normally close enough to avoid 3 putts. So age has impacted my putting - just like its impacted every other aspect of my game :-(.
