I started at age 40 and for the most part played or practiced once/week. 20 rounds in a season is good for me and I am a 16 handicap. I selected 10-13 as an attainable handicap since there are people that are more naturally talented at golf than I am. Some of my fully retired friends play 150+ rounds/year and a couple are high single digit handicaps. Although, I may be age biased starting at a later age.

My own clubs - At age 67 I have a very customized set.

I will use a pitching wedge 90% of the time, even if I have to hood the face a touch. A sand wedge or a 7 iron make up the other 10%.

It is cruel, but from what I have read about the rule and the pictures above it is likely not a hole in one. That being said I do not like the rule and believe that the pin should be removed and the ball placed back in the same spot - if it falls in the hole then ace, otherwise tap in birdie. But, I don't make the rules! I was typing as your post came up and I almost duplicated your post! Sorry.

Somewhat overrated. I did purchase an "Alien" sand wedge years ago and it did help prevent me from grabbing too much sand and staying in the bunker. I found it useless on any other shot and with the help of a pro learned to make a proper sand swing with a traditional sand wedge and also how to use it for scoring around the green. I am a 16 handicap but none of the clubs listed above or currently advertised have any appeal to me.

Azinger is doing a decent job and will hopefully become more at ease and natural as he gets more experience. He did have a Major win and a good career and has been there, although not the same stature as a Johnny Miller or Nick Faldo.

Once I hit age 60 I eliminated my fairway woods for 2 and 3 hybrid and not only gained some of my lost distance but making good contact (for a 16 HCP) and hitting the ball in the right direction became an 80% proposition. At age 67 I now carry the 2 hybrid thru 6 hybrid and would like to get a 7 hybrid that matches my other Callaway hybrids. For my imperfect swing, the hybrids have allowed me to play from the same tees as 27 years ago and still shoot mid 80's on a good day. I have lost about 25 yards on my driver but a 3 hybrid from 175 out is usually in the vicinity of the green if not on it. My 6 hybrid from 145 is better than my 7 iron years ago.

In match play I would give it a shot rather than punching out to somewhere with an opening. That said, I would fail most times to reach the green and would likely wind up wet.

When I had children at home I was an early morning golfer out of necessity, usually playing cold and waking up around the 7th hole. As an empty nester I much prefer teeing off between 1 and 2pm after a relaxing breakfast/brunch with my wife, an hour or so for an unhurried warm up, and play the last few holes as the weather starts to soften and the wind (usually subsides). Most afternoon rounds at my course are under 3.5 hours. Plenty of time to get home for a single malt(s) and a cigar and if he weather is good a barbecue.

I have a groove cleaning brush. That's it.

Absolutely not. I am not a good golfer, but even if I was a good golfer I would not take it. I have been playing for 27 years and have never got a hole in one nor have I seen anyone do it in person. I would like the 5 million but I am comfortable with my lifestyle, plus when I got out of jail I would be 72.

Callaway SuperSoft Magna Golf Ball

I remember trying the old Top-Flite version and then never playing it again. -
I have played a couple of times over the last few winters but my game is out of wack and I just hack away. It can be fun but it is too bad that the OP is missing out on playing an actual course.

I almost always use a pitching wedge and my goal is to land on the green and roll out to the pin.
-
Underrated for me. Of course I would take a 2 foot downhill putt over a 10 foot uphill putt, but at my 16 HCP level most of my approach shots leave me over 10 foot from the pin. A couple of the courses I play when the conditions are dry have a good amount of speed and they are not like a tilted pool table but more like a potato chip, Putting uphill being more aggressive I typically get the ball much closer than putting downhill on these greens. For slower greens it is insignificant but on faster contoured greens it matters for me.

I have yet to play with the new rule but I do not anticipate that it will wreak any type of havoc on our golf rounds.

I say underrated. Even though today's broadcasts move to different holes there is still enough quiet time where a competent golf announcer can add some substance to the round. I did not always agree with him but Johnny Miller but his 25 PGA wins and two majors gave a lot of credibility and insight (and criticism!).

No. Usually in the cart or bag if I am walking, always muted. I have had one occasion where a player in our foursome took a serious fall and I called the club house and they got an ambulance to come to us. I check the phone once or twice over 18 holes and have used it if we decide to play another 9 to call my wife and let her know that the course is all backed up so I will be late.

I will never offer unsolicited advice, especially as a 16 HCP that is lucky to play 25 rounds/season. That being said I have asked regular partners more than once to see if they can notice something in my swing causing whatever issue I am having. As for strangers. including golf course rangers and maintenance staff, I do not ask for or want their advice.

2019 Goals Decide on a new home course since moving Play 40 18 hole rounds with at least 15 eligible for handicap entry Work on solid contact with the ball for additional distance Lower my 16.3 handicap index by a stroke

My 2018 goals for golf were as follows: Keep my back healthy by continuing to perform strengthening exercises I was OK until I started planning to move in August and wrenched my back - lost 4 weeks Improve the accuracy of my short irons and wedges by eliminating my many fat shots and practicing on grass ranges without a mat Somewhat better but fat is still my miss Practice more than once per week by stopping at the range on the way home from work for 20-30 minutes Did not happen Play at least 25 18 hole rounds and have the ability to post at least 15 of them which may require traveling farther than my home course to play with friends and relatives - this will be the most challenging goal since my window for golf is limited i played about 20 rounds with 10 rounds with other people that I could post for my handicap. Lower my 17.5 handicap by one full point Got down to 16.3 Semi or fully retire Fall of 2018 so I can have grander expectations for 2019 I semi retired in April of 2018 Play more than four times with my grandson - his schedule is worse than mine with baseball, soccer, and school activities Did achieve this but will be difficult in 2019 since I have moved

With close friends and family there are always verbal thank you’s, nice comments, and sometimes a handshake. For everyone else it is hat off and a handshake.
