I do the same.

I shot an 80 which was my best round of 2016. I've never had a round in the 70s. Maybe 2017.
-
I will be able to play in a week. It looks like every other week will be warm enough to play. It was 48 the last time I played a week ago.
-
If I can play the way I did the last part of 2016 I will be happy to keep hold of a single digit handicap. I am aggressively working out so I do not lose any strength during the winter. I can play occasionally here in the winter since the weather changes so much. I practice a lot.

Medically Retired DAV since 1997 due to my service as a US Navy/Marine Corpsman. (Liver transplant in 1999. I have owned my own Corporation, worked as an Assistant Psychologist for the State of Arizona. Then went back and finished my degree in electronics. Had my own Computer Co. , worked as an IT tech prior to that at a casino in Mesquite, NV.

I am right between a Senior and Regular flex. I suggest you try the regular flex. My SS is not is not the great but I hit R shafts better than A shafts. Todays Senior or A shafts are stiffer than they used to be. I would try a lot of different shafts. A good fitting might be the best idea.

I'll be 70 in a few weeks and am a DAV for 17+ years. I use Mizuno JPX 900 forged irons, soft stepped 110 XPS shafts. I like them better than graphite because they are much straighter and consistent. Senior graphite shafts in the irons will be a low flex point. For me the faster I swing the higher the ball goes. It just doesn't work for me. I pay regular and senior shafts depending on how they perform. Some are too whippy, some too stiff. I am sort of in between so I have to demo the clubs I use. I was fitted for there irons at 2nd Swing. I highly recommend them. I use a regular flex Kuro Kage in my XR16 driver. I get about 20 more yds than with a senior shaft it came with.

I use the Golf Pride Jumbo Crown grips on my putters. I have on Super Stroke Flatso I use on one putter. I don't like the billboard writing on the SUPER STROKE so I will not be buying one again. I am curious about the newer Golf Pride jumbo grips but the colors are not that great.

Just a plain regular grip but I use jumbo grips with big flat fronts so my thumps are placed on the flat side. I'm averaging 27 putts per round or 1.5 per hole.

Long distance driver for compromised senior
parman replied to Covert's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I am 69 and will be 70 in a few months. I am a 100% disabled veteran from the Vietnam War with a liver transplant 17+ years ago. My swing speed is slow compared to most golfers. However I have found over the years a senior shaft is not always best for me. I just went back to a regular flex driver and gained about 20-30 yds. As we all know shafts can be very inconsistent as far as flex. I know it sounds weird but for a decade people have been trying to get me into a senior shaft and I almost always hit them shorter than a regular flex. A soft reg is the absolute best for my swing which gives me approx 190-210 drive. If I don't make a hole in regulation I just chip and one putt, hopefully. That's one reason I concentrate on putting so much. Jack Nicholas says hit the softest shaft you can. Greg Norman sys hit the stiffest shaft you can. Who's right? Conrats. to the OP for finding a good driver for him. -

Bettinardi putter tip size question
parman replied to parman's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thanks, it's .355 like a Cameron. I'm looking for a black shaft. -
Does anyone know the tip size on a Bettinardi putter? I think it is .355. TIA

I've now played for 58 years. However I did not play ever one of those years. There were times when work would not permit it or whatever but I always came back to the game. I moved in 1990 and since then have played on a regular basis. In 1999 I had a liver transplant due to my time in the military as a Navy/Maine Corpsman. The operation was then about 16 hours so I walked and played 9 holes every day for a year just to get into shape. Then after the operation and 5 months later when I returned home again I bought a new set of irons. In the hospital I thought about playing golf and that helped keep me going. It was instrumental in my recovery so golf is now in my blood and is a special game for me.

I shot one 79 this year and a lot of 38-39 scores for 9 only. Mostly I shoot around 80-83. I am opposite most since my drives are not long but in the fairway. My irons are getting better because they are relatively new and I am still getting used to them. Good with wedges since I know how far I hit each. One big difference is for the last 20 rounds I have averaged 1.5 putts and had one round with 22 putts. It will be a challenge to keep that up. I keep working on my drives and am improving slowly.

Par 5s are hard for me to reach in regulation. Played yesterday and shot a 40 on the front but the course was packed and it was getting late, cooling off fast. Ended up at 12, a par 5. Third shot was a push and ended up under trees near traps, 100yds. away. I punched a 7 iron low to 20-25 feet and felt good I was on the green not too far from the hole. Then I sunk the putt for par and quit for the day on a good note.

I just sold a set of MP-25s for a set of JPX 900F irons. You would be surprised on how close the head size is between the two. The JPX is more forgiving and feels great, preforms great, and looks great.

Are black wedges that have lost color in sweetspot ok?
parman replied to StefanUrkel's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I meant to say I replaced it with a Cleveland 588 47* 'Special' PW which I hit almost identically. -
Rule of thumb has always been to tee off then the last group leaves the green. That eliminates any chance of hitting someone, or landing too close. It's just common sense.

I'm thinking about replacing this one. It is a Scratch but I have a 588 backup. When they were discontinued I bought a few 588 60s. -
39-41 with 22 putts. This is the best putting round I have had in a long time. I did have one chip in to lower the putts more. Overall I am very happy with the way I played. I was playing 9 at a time so I am still getting used to 18.

Do those who hit into people like it when THEY are standing over a par or birdie putt and have a ball roll onto the green, have one fly past your head, or land next to you? I seriously doubt it. When I get hit into the standard BS answer is that's the farthest I ever hit the ball! If a ball is hit into me I just hit back, simple remedy.

Ball at Rest Moved - How Would You Improve This Rule?
parman replied to iacas's topic in Rules of Golf
The simple answer is to just put the ball back where it was. It's similar to this rule: Rule 18-5 Ball at Rest Moved by Another Ball Q.Steve`s ball was at rest on the putting green. Cindy plays from just off the green and her ball hits Steve`s ball. What must Steve do? A.Under Rule 18-5, Steve must replace his ball back to its original position. (See related FAQ under Rule 19) Cindy must play her ball as it lies. There is no penalty to either player in either match play or stroke play. In stroke play only, if Cindy's ball lay on the putting green prior to the stroke, she would incur a penalty of two strokes.- 340 replies
