The nice thing about all those bad shots is that on the driving range they don't count against you. In fact I would almost rather get those out of my system there then on the golf course. The most annoying thing is when you hit a great shot and wonder why you can't do that on the course.

I have some really good rounds when I was not feeling all that well. maybe taking your brain out of the equation really does work after all.

Would you play a non-conforming (illegal) driver?
The Hook Meister replied to mvmac's topic in Golf Talk
l would not no a legal driver from a illegal one. I*d probably would try it until i found out it was illegal then put it on the shelve maybe. -
I remember the first time I broke 80, I had the round of my life I shot a 74. The one thing I did not do was .look at the score card until after the round. I had so many 81's and 82's because I was looking at the score card instead of focusing on my game. If you constantly looking at your score card and tryinmg to figure out what you need to do you will end up not getting there at all.

I think you should go to a golf store where they have a net that you can hit balls into. Then try a bunch of different clubs and brands and see what feels good to you. You don't want to buy some clubs because it's a good brand and get to the golf course and find out you don't really like them all that much. Trying out all those brands can be fun. and you get to try all those brands for free.

One consolation the spring thaw is coming! Until then my sympathies..

Let me say this, people don't get in a hurry out there. Remember safety first please. I was sitting in a golf cart watching a friend of mine try to navigate his ball around a small tree. He hit the tree dead on and the bounced back toward the cart, I hit the dirt as the flew thru the cart. Our other friend was across the fairway on the ground he was laughing so hard. I was in disbelief that he hit the tree, but I guess it was pretty funny when you think about it.

I don't have a problem with dress codes. You have some kind of code, otherwise people will dress like bums. It's not asking much to wear a collared shirt and a pair of slacks is it.

There are a few factors that go into that decision. Distance from the green, how low are the tree branches, how much fairway do I have to work with, are their any hazards in front of me? I generally use a 3 iron if the branches a real low. But if there is enough clearance and I am not to far from the green I would rather use a 6 iron. I really hate it when there is a water hazard between me and the green and I have to punch out from the trees. Thats a hole other can of worms and a few anxious moments.

40 Putts per Round, Average of 96 (Dave Pelz)?
The Hook Meister replied to phillyk's topic in Golf Talk
40 putts per round, only if I have a bad day with the putter. That average seems a little high to me. For the average golfer 2 putts a hole times 18 equals 36. Most average golfer will 1 putt a couple of holes and 3 putt at least 1, that would get you to 35 not 40. -
Breaking Bad Club - A Thread for Golfers Trying to Break 100
The Hook Meister replied to Gipper's topic in Golf Talk
To limit lost balls try to keep your ball in the fairway, even if that means giving up a little distance. Don,t rush your putts, take a little more time studying them. This will help reduce your three putts. -
I like a challenge as much as the next person, but are you kidding me! That's a crater not a sand trap. The person who dreamed this one up is nuts.

You could try moving your glasses a little farther out on your nose. See if you can get a l pair made up that meets youe needs..

Yes I agree with you. I have probably sprouted out some of those words myself in my younger years.. I think we should all try to control ourselves more, but golf can bring out the superlatives faster than almost anything. No excuses! You could say something before the round about there being a lady present.

I know its very frustrating, You start playing in the low eighty's and then you can't seem to break ninety. When to tried to ht the ball a little bit farther you sped up your swing and probably threw your back swing a little off. The results of which can be ugly. I have been there. Now I don' worry about score so much.. I go out there for the fresh air some exercise with a little frustration thrown in for free. If you are really serious about your score then break down and go get a couple of lessons.

Breaking Bad Club - A Thread for Golfers Trying to Break 100
The Hook Meister replied to Gipper's topic in Golf Talk
The one thing I have learned about driving the ball of the tee is a slow back swing. If you go back to fast you will jerk the club and the results will not be very good. One thing you can do is go to the driving range and work out the kinks as it where. Good luck to all. -
FlightScope Mevo - Portable Launch Monitor for the Everyday Golfer
The Hook Meister replied to mvmac's topic in Golf Talk
Potable launch monitor. I wonder if it works when you top the ball? I think I will wait for more brands to hit the market so the price will drop a little. With all these new stuff coming out, we will need a big truck just to go golfing. Then we will be telling the next generation abouit the time when every thing fit in the trunk of your car.- 310 replies

Repairing your divot incorrectly is bad enough, but the ones that don't even repair it at all really burn me up.

I feel your frustration, It's hard enough with yard markers let alone without them. There are some rangefinders that are not real expensive. You could always play with someone who has one. I wouldn't change courses, I might say something in the pro shop about the speed that the people are going.

The easy way to handle this is to say no. I have a friend that we give each other a bad time about gimmie's. We know the other will probably miss the putt. If you have ever seen us putt you would agree, As a rule of thumb nothing more than 8 inches is a gimmie.

I am not a fan of elevated greens. They come with the game however. I have notices that some couirses go over board with them. One or two is fine, but lets don;t get carried away.

When do I lay up? Like most golfers distance, lie, hazards, and flag location play very key factors in my play, I( have a couple of rules I like to follow: 1) don;t force a shot 2) take a minute and think about it. If you just grab a club and go for it you most likely won't like the results. 3) always allow for the wind. The wind can add distance to your shot, or shorten it. Cross winds can be a little tricky. Behind you you have to play the ball a little to the left or the right. In font of you I tend to hate life right about there! I will stand there thinking I am dammed if I do or if I don.t go for it. 4) How I am hitting my clubs on that day.

I understand, but what are going to do, when it's winter it's winter, you just have to look forward to spring and then go for it.
