Well, I'm a 13, so anything in the 90's I usually consider a bad round. But, in reality, it's usually a few blow up holes that lead to a 90's score. A week or so ago I shot a 49 on the front, and a 39 on the back. Not in the 90's (luckily), but that front 9 had two triples in a row. I think I got behind every tree imaginable that day.

Tiger Woods. By a mile. I can't explain why, but I don't like watching golf nearly as much without him playing.

what is your go to shot from 100 yards in the fairway?
anthony replied to onthehunt526's topic in Golf Talk
Assuming it's a mostly normal green, a partial PW. Imo, that shot is so much more consistent than a full SW (or whatever wedge). In the past it would have been a GW, but I've taken to the PW more for the 100'ish to 60 yds range. -
Backswing Sequence: What Leads the Way for You?
anthony replied to mvmac's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Left shoulder down and back. -
Since I've been using my 3 wood almost exclusively, other's broken tees are what I usually use. While it can be a slight annoyance (stepping on them when getting into your stance), ball marks on the green are far far worse imo. I fix multiple craters per hole on almost every hole.

Do you enter a score every single time you play?
anthony replied to SoundandFury's topic in Golf Talk
I enter a score for every round I play with others. When I play by myself in the evenings, I hit multiple balls, practice around the green, drop at different distances, etc. So, I'm not playing a regular round most of the time. I could probably just keep score of one ball, but I don't see the point, and don't really care that much. -
How many cubits is that?

Most people I've played with in my life have a pretty good sense of humor out there. The one thing I don't think you should ever do is give someone is swing advice. Unless it's asked for explicitly, of course. Even then, I'd steer clear of doing it. Years ago, when I first implemented a proper pitch shot ( http://thesandtrap.com/t/39411/quickie-pitching-video-golf-pitch-shot-technique ), I remember a guy trying to tell me I was too "flippy" and I should do it with stiff arms and the ball played way back. Now, I'm a boss with that shot, and anytime he hits a shitty short shot I tell him he's too flippy.

Very interested in this club, and may buy one sight unseen. Have been hitting my 3 wood (very well) off the tee because of my inconsistent driver. I really think those massive 460cc heads are big part of why it feels so weird to swing that damn club. 3w feels like my regular swing; driver does not. Hoping something like this would feel the same, with a bit more distance. Hitting off the deck would not be needed, as the 3w does just fine in that department. Wondering what the difference between a driver and wood shaft would be? Aside from length of course.

Watching that made me feel so good about my swing.

When do you start playing blues?
anthony replied to TexasTom's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I'll play the blues when my handicap is a single digit. Even then, that will only be when I'm by myself, or if I find new golf buddies. -
Nike is Releasing Vapor Speed Driver with Tiger's Specs
anthony replied to billchao's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
That's not surprising, because they are soooo freakin ugly. I mean, what the hell were they thinking with the irons? They had some pretty classy looking sets for a while, but these are an eye sore. Overall, I quite like the nike that I've hit. I'm currently playing an old sumo driver (which may go away soon) and two sumo hybrids. They hybrids are great imo. Hit a playing partners covert 3 wood a couple times, and really liked it. Especially off the tee. -
I know a friend that has a motorized "skateboard" that looks similar to this, but it is a bit narrower. As a preface, I skateboarded regularly for probably 20 years, can ride big bowls, half pipes, grind rails, all that shit. Anyways. His motorized skateboard went great on the cement, but really really sucked if there was any type of loose gravel or dirt conditions. Which is weird, because it was marketed for "off road" and had knobby tires. The problem was there wasn't enough weight. The tires would just spin and spin, and you could whip the back end around real easy. Not sure what these weight, but they'll need to be 100 lbs or more for proper traction, I'm guessing. Also, people probably need to be a bit athletic, and definitely have some balance, to ride something like this. Otherwise, I can see injuries left and right resulting from riding these.

This would definitely have to be on a flat course (there are next to zero in my area). Otherwise, you're going to be pushing up a lot of hills. Might as well walk in that case (which I do anyways). Cool idea though. Would love to see the two person cart go away in favor of something more singular to speed up play.

Me too. This is crucial skill, imo. The way I figured it out is by dropping balls at 50 and 75 yards on a hole with a flat fairway. Then, figure out how far "up the clock face" I need to take my back swing to hit the shot. For instance: 9 o'clock with my 50 degree is 50 yds. Need 60 yds? Go to 10 o'clock. It really is so much easier when you don't need to guess.

Although I definitely prefer a white ball, yellow is much easier too see. I play white in morning / early afternoon rounds, and yellow in my evening rounds. It's sooo much easier to see that yellow ball when the sun is low and in your eyes.

Where on the green were you landing your shots? 2 putts from 50 feet is still tough.

I bought a few hybrids 4 years ago or so. Hit them ok, but topped a bunch, and occasionally hooked the crap out of them. Which, led to little confidence with them. So, when the Mizuno MP-H4's hit the scene, I started playing the 3-4 long irons. Really preferred them to the hybrids, and they've been in the bag for the last two years. This year, partially due to hitting my 3 wood off the deck so well, I put two hybrids back in the bag just for the hell of it. Now, I'm cranking them straight, and I think I'm preferring them to the long irons. wtf? I suppose my swing is better now, which probably led to this. I still like the H-4's, but I'd be lying if I said the hybrids weren't easier to hit. My only complaint is that they go a bit higher than I'd like them to.

This is the only way I can hit full wedges. Feels really far back there with my 56 and 61. Truth be told, I never hit full wedges unless I need to get over a tree or something.

Quickie Pitching Video - Golf Pitch Shot Technique
anthony replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Not sure if this was mentioned already, but wanted to post something I stumbled on a few weeks ago. When faced with "touchier" 5-10 yd off the green pitch shots, I've found that focusing on the pressure point between my right index finger (for righties) and the club helps me keep the club moving through the shot, and not give up on a shot with less velocity.- 776 replies

I try not to hate too many things when I'm supposed to be enjoying myself on the course. Butttt, here are a few minor annoyances: - Looking for a ball that went 50 yards deep into the woods. "Maybe it will be on the edge". No dude, we all saw that thing rocket straight into the trees with no hope of being found. Take your penalty stroke and move on with your game. wtf? - Not playing ready golf. Are you the first on the tee box? Are you ready to hit? Let it rip then!! Does anyone really give a shit who tee's off when? Same with putting. If someone's having a bad hole, chipped 3 times, and is still away -- don't make them rush to putt. Just putt. No one really cares. So, give the guy a break and putt if you're ready to. - Not fixing ball marks and divots. Sometimes divots explode into a million pieces, so there's nothing you can do. But, not fixing ball marks on the green is ridiculous. I fix other people's marks endlessly. It's not hard people. It's lazy and disrespectful to everyone.

I picked the last choice, along with the majority of voters. I'd definitely put the PW as the last short iron club tough. 99% (maybe 98%) percent of golfers carry one that matches their set, which is more 10 iron than it is "wedge".

How Often Do You Replace… Your Driver?
anthony replied to iacas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I've had the same Nike Sumo driver since 2007-2008 when I started golfing again. I still have it because I can still hit it fine. One of my playing partners offered me his Nike Covert (last year's model) for next to nothing because it's stiff, and he needs senior most likely. Didn't hit it any better than my current driver, so I passed. Plus, I'd need to cut it down 2 inches to match my current length (which isn't that big of a deal). -
God no. I play until it starts snowing, and weep until Spring. I suppose if I lived somewhere with golf weather all year, it would be possible.
