I know, its a little early to be starting this type of thread, but I have a buddy interning there sending me pics every day.  Hyped is an under statement.  I'm fortunate enough to have tix to all 4 days.

Rory listed as pretty strong favorite at 7-1, second only to Spieth (11-2).  Interested to see if he's healthy enough to be a contender come August.

Anyone know much about Whistling Straights? Definitely one of the coolest tournament logos recently:

Get to it ya'll

  • 2 weeks later...

Rory scheduled a practice round for Saturday.  We'll hopefully get some sort of update on the ankle

Wow that's great news that he's at least going to give it a try with a practice round. That's encouraging news. A sign that he's not that far away. My guess is that IF he does play, he won't play anymore until The Duetsche Bank and then The TOUR.

Yep looks like he's going to give it a go.

I'm surprised, the way they were talking last week Faldo thought he'd be out for the rest of the season.  I hope he's okay and doesn't end up re-injuring it or something else because he rushed back.

I figured he would as soon as it was rumored it was a 6-8 week injury. At his age, his workout routine and probably the physio work he got, 6-8 weeks means he can be ready to go in 5, and this weekend will be the 4-week mark since he ruptured it and the 5th will be the PGA.

I think if this was the US Open, he'd more likely to sit it out, but given it's the PGA and the next major isn't for another 7 months, he probably feels "it's good enough" to where he can get through this tournament and then possibly shut it down for the year.

I can see it now...Rory limping down the 18th with a broken le...umm ruptured ligament on Sunday with a chance to pull off the improbable victory. :-D

I'm excited for him to be back. He was having a really good year before his injury.

Question...can the pros use a cart when they play a practice round? Does it make a difference if it's before the week of the tournament?

    • You need to stick with one instructor as long as they’re not terrible. There’s no blueprint to improving a golf swing and different instructors may see different things as being more important and try to fix them. The end result is you get a hodge podge of things to work in that may not be cohesive or necessarily help you. If you stick to one instructor and communicate to them as such, they’ll also be able to work out a roadmap to your improvement which is more beneficial in the long run. If a guy assumes you’re just coming in for one lesson you might end up with a band aid.

    • Many thanks.  I read a lot of those posts.   Man, that is really deep.  As an old beginner, during a lesson or on the driving range, I have hit a good shot, you know pretty straight and it goes say 130 yards (7 iron).  The very next swing, I dig a ditch behind the ball.  I know I didn't do the same things on both swings.  Even this last lesson I had, I would hit a pretty good shot, not so on the next shot.  The instructor would quickly point out, "Hey you stayed on your back foot" or "Guess what happened there.  You got all armsy or handsy".  Sort of feels like I need a checklist when I prepare to swing each time.  I can see it now before every swing, "Hey can you guys give me 10 minutes while I run through my checklist".  In all seriousness, I see what you all are saying.  I wouldn't be overthinking it so much if just I could make decent contact most of the time.  Next lesson is about two weeks away.  Can't wait.

    • I was going to link in the same think @snapfade did.  Your swing is already consistent, repeatable, except for nearly "microscopic" differences.  The more mechanically-sound your swing becomes, the smaller and less frequent those "microscopic" deviations become.
