I don't know about any of you, but the best way for me to get back at someone is kicking their ass on the course. A while ago, I started a thread explaining my disdain for country club snobs, which brought a lot of attacks. At first, I was defensive and let it piss me off and forced myself to apologize. Looking back, it was a mistake on my part to compromise my position.

Sunday afternoon, we had a threesome playing a $10 nassau at Newport News Park at Deer Run - a public course that gets a lot of play, a lot of rowdies, and a lot of drunks. The course itself is one of the best public courses in the region for the money. We were behind a group of an old lady, and old man, and a middle-aged man. Two of them had Williamsburg Country Club apparel on (the same club where I played two weeks ago and shot 74 wearing 'questionable' apparel, made some smartass comments about the snobs' lack of golf prowess, and was labeled a 'punk'). Everything went along fine on the front nine, I shot 38 with a triple on 3, bogey, and two birdies and won the front. I birdied 11 to get back to +1 and then parred 12.

13 is a mid-length straight par 5 - 540 off the tips, but if you can hit a power draw off the tee, you can have a long iron or fairway wood in. I hit a missile off the tee, had about 225 middle, 235 to the flag. The country clubbers were really stinking it up in front of us for the past two holes, and refused to let us play through even though they had at least two holes open in front of them. They were being so slow to the point of being obnoxious - taking several practice swings, then hitting the ball 50 yards or shanking it.

If anyone has ever played at Deer Run, you know that 6 green, 7 tee and 13 green all share a restroom about 30 yards to the right of 13. I guess one of the snobs had to drop the kids off at the pool, so after taking about 10 minutes to putt out, they drive their carts over to the restroom, effectively out of range. I decided to go with a 2-iron and play short, because long is dead on 13. I swung too hard and blocked it toward the restroom and yelled 'fore'.

Now, here's where things get interesting - I know exactly where the ball goes when I miss on 13 - it usually ends up about 15 yards short and right. I drove up, apologized, and asked if they had seen my ball. The middle-aged douche gives me a sneer and says 'no, I haven't seen your ball, but believe me, I would have let you know if you were close to me'. They finish doing their business in the can and drive off to 14 tee. Meanwhile, the two guys I'm playing with (riding in a separate cart) ride up to help me look for my ball, and one of them tells me he saw the same guy pick up my ball.

That did it for me, there were some pleasantries shouted at the country clubbers, such as 'go back to Williamsburg, you pieces of sh*t'. They sped up after that little exchange. Since the guy I was playing against saw the schmuck pick up my ball, I was allowed to drop at approximately that spot and play on without penalty, ended up recording a par. Had he not seen (or not told me about) my ball being picked up, I would have had to drive back and been hitting my fourth shot from 225, almost ensuring a 6 or 7. I let what transpired get to me, and snap-hooked my tee shot on 14 into a pond and took bogey.

There was some trash being talked toward them on the last few holes, such as 'you can pick up my ball all you want, a**hole, I'm still winning!'. I ended up parring 15-18 for 36 on the back and a 74 and swept front, back, and overall for $60.

Now, we always have a policy that whoever wins the nassau buys a round at the bar. We're sitting down watching the Players Championship, and guess who shows up. It's about closing time, and the three country clubbers show up at the bar and ask the bartender if they can get something cooked - the bartender tells them the kitchen is closed. The old lady gets into a huff and walks away.

After all this, the middle aged dipsh*t that picked my ball up decides to sit down next to the three of us - doesn't order anything. I look away from him (at one of the guys in our threesome) and say 'if I wouldn't have won today because of some bullsh*t, someone would have gotten his ass beat'. Country club boy gets the hint, and leaves immediately.

This incident simply galvanized my attitude toward overprivileged idiots, especially ones that come to MY home course and pull their sh*t.

A lot of you here seem to be cool, and I have no issue with most of you, but if you're going to run your mouth at me and try to demean me, all I ask is that you have the balls to back it up. I am trying to be one of the top amateurs in the state of Virginia, and while I know I'm a long way from that goal, I do know my game, I know my work ethic toward practice, and that I can beat damn near anyone, any day.

So, in closing, if you want to run your mouth, call me whatever, that's cool. All I ask is to give me an opportunity to silence you, and in turn, I will give you an opportunity to back it up. It doesn't have to be for money, but if you want to put a modest wager up, more power to you.

he stole your ball, and told you if you almost hit him, he'd let you know, you mouthed off like a complete idiot for a few holes. I think your worse than they were. Sounds like a case of you being jealous of their money, the way you went on.

If being 'over-privilidged' makes him an *******, does being 'under-privilidged' make you an *******.

Looking back, it was a mistake on my part to compromise my position.

Right, because being a reasonable person is always a mistake. You're an anti-snob snob, which is perhaps even worse since in my experience, people in your position go out of their way to label people as snobs just so they can rail against them.

Someone had a logo from a club on their shirt?! Snob, no question!!! Never mind the possibility that maybe their son or grandson works in the bag room, pro shop, etc. there. - nope, they must be SNOBS worthy of your scorn and vitriol.
That did it for me, there were some pleasantries shouted at the country clubbers, such as 'go back to Williamsburg, you pieces of sh*t'.

Yeah, that's the mature way to handle things.

There was some trash being talked toward them on the last few holes, such as 'you can pick up my ball all you want, a**hole, I'm still winning!'.

Yeah, you tell those snobby people who dared to be OLD and PLAYING GOLF in front of you! You tell 'em![/sarcasm]

I'm just curious how, in both of the stories in which you act like a complete *******, you somehow shot 74 despite having a 3.1 index (once on a course you'd not played before or very frequently).
It's about closing time, and the three country clubbers show up at the bar and ask the bartender if they can get something cooked - the bartender tells them the kitchen is closed. The old lady gets into a huff and walks away.

If The Players was still on, I'd be surprised the kitchen was closed too since we can deduce that it was still daytime out and nowhere near closing time.

After all this, the middle aged dipsh*t that picked my ball up decides to sit down next to the three of us - doesn't order anything.

OH MY GOD! THE GUY DARED TO SIT NEAR YOU!

I look away from him (at one of the guys in our threesome) and say 'if I wouldn't have won today because of some bullsh*t, someone would have gotten his ass beat'.

You really don't know when to let go, do you?

This incident simply galvanized my attitude toward overprivileged idiots, especially ones that come to MY home course and pull their sh*t.

It could very well be their home course too for all you know.

What does the quality (or lack thereof) of your golf game have to do with the quality (or lack thereof) of your character, integrity, and personality?

You've got issues, dude, and I don't see this ending well for you.

Perhaps the Williamsburg guys were in a bad mood because their club was recently sold and will be closed. It will reopen as a semi-private...maybe you can go play there and be rude for revenge.

I'd like to go on record and state that you will find no snobs at Cedar Point in Suffolk which is currently holding a very attractive membership drive. I assure you that you will face none of the issues you complain about.

The mature thing to do would have been to ingore their behavior and enjoy your game. If there were 2 holes open in front of them you should let the ranger deal with it.

You clearly have some issues with people who belong to private clubs. Here's a newsflash for you, some people join private clubs to get away from people who act like you did. Being rich or poor doesn't make you a douche bag, being a douche bag makes you a douche bag.

You've got some issues that will most likely see you end up in the hospital or in handcuffs, when you catch the wrong "snob' on a day when they don't feel like putting up with your childish rants.

Just as I expected. Everyone's a stud from behind their keyboards.

I'm not going anywhere, kids. I can handle my problems without resorting to violence.

And Erik, I'm not going to glorify your accusation of my not having an honest handicap with a response.

Also, I've never been to Cedar Point, but I've heard it's a pretty good track with a nice member base.

Do you wonder why they were riding in a separate cart?

Maybe your playing partner didn't see the guy pick up you ball but just told you that so you wouldn't have a tantrum and ruin he round for everyone else ... It sounds like that backfired. How can you be angry enough to insinuate that you would have beat up a middle aged mad if you didn't win. I am amazed that anyone will play golf with you it sounds like you should have had a great time, you shot a good score and you won $60 yet it sounds like you had such a bad time that you ruined the round for not only your group and the group in front of you but anyone within earshot of you. Let me know if these two guys you played with ever ask you to play with them again.

Actually, we played together as teammates yesterday and did pretty well.

I take it personally when someone screws with my ability to make money.

Just as I expected. Everyone's a stud from behind their keyboards.

By pointing out that your behavior is childish, ass-like, and classless? Yeah, that's "being a stud." The way I see it, you're far more guilty of "being a stud from behind your keyboard" than anyone else.

I'm not going anywhere, kids.

You're right about that part. That giant chip on your shoulder's going to weigh you down and prevent you from doing anything of substance.

You titled this thread "Drama," and it's appropriate, except you're the Drama Queen here and it's all your own invention. Wow, a guy was wearing a logo! What a snob!

My god...I do hope I'll never run into you on a course. Behaviour as such is so foolish, you try to glorify yourself, but end up telling us exactly what an ass you behaved like.

Being treated bad does not give you the right to treat others the same way. The better person will ignore it and move on, but you are obviously too stubborn and think too highly of yourself to do such.

Good one man - I know I come off sounding like a total ass more often than not, but I give EVERYTHING I have toward making myself a better player, and I try to run my golf game the same way you run a business - more specifically by focusing on potential return on investment.

I have a MBA and make a decent living, so I've done plenty.

I will do everything possible to win the next tournament I'm entered in, if I fall on my face, then so be it, I just have to dust myself off and have another go at it, but if I finally end up breaking through, I will gladly let you know, since I've never done anything of substance, according to you.
