What does your right hand do during your swing?

I'm right-handed so reverse for lefties.
To this point my swing mostly happens with just my left arm/hand. From take takeaway to wrist cock to the down swing and then through impact. My right side just seems to be along for the ride.
Now, just recently I read Hank Haney's article in the July Golf Digest and he explains something totaly different, with the right hand producing the wrist cock and release through impact like swing a hammer and the left arm pulling up and the right pushing down through impact. Seems much more powerful, but seems like timing may be an issue. What do you guys/gals feel or do with your right arm during the swing. Thanks.

I dunno, but to me my left hand feels like it's along for the ride.

during the backswing, i dont really feel anything other than a full sholder turn. as soon as i start to nit-pick about every little detail, by swing turns to crap. during the downswing however, i focus on my right hand turning over as the club travels downward. to me, its feels like im trying to make the plam of my right hand face the ground. that insures that i get the club face square to the target line so i dont slice the ball.

only thing I think about (when practicing) is my right hand shaking hands with the target to make sure I follow through good. I don't think about anything swing related (at least try not to) when playing

Heaven forbid that I start thinking about it but when I do - it's swinging through the ball with the back of my left hand and the palm of my right hand. Now I'm going to try to forget what I just.....!!!!

It doesn't do anything consciously, it only cock when the club comes past perpendicular to the ground and rotate through the ball at impact. I try to keep my hands as still as possible, not letting them do funny things to my golf club.

I have a lot of right hand in my swing - it's where I generate a lot of my power, but also where I have a lot of my misses. If I have "too much" my ball pretty much snap hooks. Currently working on trying to get a little bit of it out of my swing.

My instructor had me doing the same thing, because I was right hand heavy before, but because of rotating my left wrist during the backswing. Has definitely added consistency with minimum power loss, but I can't hit a draw now to save my life.

I think I will work on trying to just use the right wrist as a hinging/unhinge only, as right now I'm doing it all with my left. I think I can add some more power from the feel of it. Seems like I'll be able to control the club face alot more if I can control the movement.

Interestingly I tried a Hogan drill today, taking my right hand thumb and forefinger away from the shaft and only using the three other fingers on the right hand.

I did it with wedges only, but man those wedge shots were sweet.

I'll experiment a little more with that with some of the longer/heavier/faster clubs.

My right hand does two things in my swing. If I'm hitting a draw, I roll it over a bit through impact. If I'm hitting a fade, I hold it off through impact. That's it.

Well what do you when your trying to hit it dead straight, or do you always play for a certain ball flight (I usually play for the 5-7 yard draw so I'll let my right hand be somewhat prevelant in my swing).

I've been getting away from straight shots lately, just letting my natural baby draw do its thing. But in the instance when I am trying to stay straight, I play the shot like a fade. Open stance, delay the hands. Like a push that goes straight.

Amen, brother, amen.

Questions like these are wonderful to ask someone that you are in a bet against. Play up to them like you are seeking advice and see where it leads them. Ignore any swing thoughts and just focus on hitting targets and taking their money. I remember playing a buddy for a small bet one time. He ususally got the best of me. On the fourth or fifth hole I asked him at what part of his swing he inhaled and exhaled in. It must have sent him into a tizzy of deep thought because I good several holes ahead of him on the bet while he pondered it.

That is just wicked

This thread is fast becoming a mental approach liability.

I'm the flip side of that coin....my right hand is typically passive, which allows me to very accurate, but not that long with my irons.....I am really working opening up and getting a little more right hand involved....when I stay inside the ball it is amazing how much distance I pick up (20 yards on mid-irons)....but I am struggling with my control...... what a bitch this game is.....

Well actually I am a pretty straight hitter (I don't hit it far at all, but I'm a small kid 5'7" 142 lbs) but I can pull off some pretty amazing looking snappers when that right hand gets too active in my swing, for sure...

What was the Karate saying, "wipe on - wipe off?" Something like that... the only right hand thought I have is when trying to hold off for a slight fade or straight push shot and it is like trying to wipe across a window.

my swing thought on the range is for my right hand to slap the back of the ball.

my swing thought on the course is grip it and rip it.
