Wondering what everyone does to stay cool during a round. Down in south Texas it is as hot as it's ever been. I prefer to walk, but I'm tapped out by the 15th hole or so...clothes and towel soaked completely through.

What about things like cool collars...stuff like that? I wear a funny looking bucket hat but sometimes I feel like that just makes it hotter. I've found that the new clothing materials really do work, so that has helped. Anything else I'm missing?

Drink a ton of water. That helps me alot.
Also those dry fit polos that Nike and Adidas make are quite nice and breathe well. Just like Under Armour.

I only use dri-fit or under armour shirts, under armour under wear is a must ($22 for a pair but it worth it believe me) Lots of water and sunscreen. I also play slower, I dont walk fast. On hot days I eat small light meals before I play like a tuna ceaser salad or somthing like that. I really dont sweat that much anyways, but I keep multiple gloves in my bag. I also carry 2 towels.

Wear a hat, drink lots of water (if you don't feel the need to urinate every 3 hrs you need more fluids), Whenever possible, find shade. Play as early in the day as possible. Avoid 1pm-4pm (the hottest part of the day)

I'm thinking of a pull cart...the guys I play with swear by them in hot weather. Maybe I should nix the boxers, hadn't thought of that.

Side note...I have discovered carrying a little Rawlings brand rock resin bag (like baseball players use) is perfect for keeping my hands a little more dry. Highly recommended!

I swear it is hotter than it's been in a long time down here!

Sometimes the cart fee is worth it. This is one of those cases.

Push cart, lot's of water, shade as much a possible and I like to keep a full sized towel w/ me and keep 1/2 of it soaked. This towel is for me, not the clubs. We have water coolers every 3 3or 4 holes, so I re-soak the towel as needed.......it's amazing how fast you cool down with a cold towel on your neck.
I've spent most of my life golfing - the rest I've just wasted.

yeah, a light breathable hat would do it real well. I always thought those woven brim hats kept me a lot cooler than a normal cap. Too bad I don't have one!

I've found lightweight, breathable shoes with UnderArmor/Dri-Fit type socks on make a really big difference to how hot I feel. Another simple thing that really helps me is just taking my hat off whenever possible (even if just waiting on tee or waiting for others to hit). It's amazing how much cooler my head and body feel if I do that (especially when riding in cart with a little air blowing).

A wet towel around the neck really helps along with a breathable hat and climate controlled shirt. Its been 100* for a couple of weeks , but we play around noon when everyone else goes inside. The wet towell is a must

Best thing I have invested in. I'm pretty sure your talking about compression shorts right? I wear them when I play any sport.

lumpuckeroo: that thing really works? Wet towels are a lifesaver for sure...if this works better it would be huge for me.

All great ideas...that's what I was looking for. I play too much to afford a cart every round, and part of the reason I'm walking is to get in better shape anyway.

I use the wet towel as well to keep cool, but I also have one of those wicking towels (used for washing cars) for my hands to keep them dry. I hate wearing a glove, always have, so these are a lifesaver for me.

Sunscreen, breathable shirts, and a visor in lieu of a hat to let the heat escape. It's been pretty cool here this summer other than a few days. On hot days, I will take my cooler with ice blocks and rub one of them on the back of my neck every few holes.
