Cool. I'm glad to see companies finally pricing premium balls lower to undercut Titleist. It's the only way they'll ever catch up...most people just aren't going to buy them for the same price as a Pro V1/x. I've been buying the Taylor Made Blacks for this same reason.

Yeah-the TP Blacks are are double nice. ProV1 is a great ball, but I like the TP Black just as much, and it's $16 cheaper.

good price points and possibly create some price wars = yes. Claiming the golf ball market? = No. not even close.

I think that's great, because then other balls may lower their price, but I still wouldn't buy a Nike ball. DOn't know what it is but I can't stand looking at that swoosh on a golf ball.

Yea, I don't know why ball companies havent figured this out. There are plenty of balls that are "just as good" as a Pro-V1 (imho anyway), but the all cost the same amount as a Pro-V1. If I'm going to pay the same amount of money for a ball that is "just as good" as a Pro-V1, then I'm going to go ahead and buy a Pro-V1.

TaylorMade seems to be the only company that has figured this out. They lowered the price of the Red/Black (their old "just as good" as a Pro-V1 balls), and have come out with a ball (Penta) at the same price as the Pro-V1 that some are saying is a better ball than the Pro-V1.

Not to jack this thread but I got some sleeves of the maxfli tour balls (tour, HT, and XD). The tour and HT are very nice balls a little firm but still have a decent feel. I think the tour is 40 and the HT is 30 but the HT played as nice as the tour. The XD was a little more firm than I prefer but I'd bet if you like the tp black it might appeal to you.

To "claim the market" is a bold statement, and one where I think I'd need to know specifically if they are looking at the whole market or just thr premium priced ball market.

If they really intend to claim the whole market then they'll need to get the price down to a buck a ball for a dozen, throw in the red swoosh pack for free, and include a towel and ball marker and a proper divot repair tool. Then maybe, just maybe, they can claim the market.

Totally agree, balls are so over priced it's sick! Don't complain about the lack of new young people playing the game, PGA or USGA, the cost of playing is getting out of control. That being said I played the new Srixon Zstar's in Tour Yellow. They are onto something there... Nice performance, and no searching for balls... it really sped up my round, as i was playing a really heavy rough course the weekend before US Open Qualifying. I could see my ball from the tee every time it hit the rough. Time for Srixon to make Tour Yellow in their lower priced models!

I get the Titleist Pro-V1s through my work for nothing. If I had to pay for balls, I would have no problem switching over to the Nike One Tour D at a $30-35 price for 15.

If this is in fact true, I think you would also see the the mid tier balls go down in price. How many will pay $30 for an NXT or Bridgestone E series when you can get the premium ball for a few dollars more. Sure, some may prefer those balls, but if someone plays them for the cost, I could see a lot of people switching.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

The ProV1 practice balls are the same as the ProV1 except they have 'practice' stamped on them. I defy anyone with a microscope, micrometer, scale, xray, or another other measuring device to prove there is a difference. There isn't, they just cost less. What Nike does may or may not cause Titleist to drop the price of their balls - we'll see.

I usually pick up my golf balls from the silly rich people who think their balls are done and knock them into the range, $5 nets me about 12 to 15 great balls from the 70+ range balls. Although the fact that Nike has reduced thier prices I'm so gonna buy some.
