Haha heard he started arguing with pavin at a press conference that pavin had to have because of what gray reported...what a tool. anyone else here anything about this?

They were talking about it on Mike and Mike this morning. Gray is saying that he quoted Pavin directly saying that he would give Tiger a spot on the team, Pavin tweeted (man I hate that) that he was misquoted. I have to side on Gray here; unless Gray just totally made that statement up, there is no way he was misquoted unless he was joking or something, which doesn't seem to be the case. It seems Pavin is trying to cover his ass on this one.

apparently the story goes like this...

Pavin stated that he WANTED Tiger to play at the RC...which by interpretation, doesn't necessarily mean he was going to PICK Tiger. It could mean that Pavin wanted Tiger to play well and qualify.

now Jim Gray reported as saying Pavin was going to PICK Tiger Woods...which Pavin never stated.

Guess its a matter of misquoting Pavin, in which Gray is at fault.

After listening to the interviews this morning, and listening to the guys on PGA Tour radio, I think Jim Gray needs to go away. It seems he trys to make every story into something about him, its him against someone else; ie: Pete Rose....Corey Pavin...... Gray sticking his hand in the face of Pavin's wife is completely inexcusable. It should have all been handled in private, but instead Gray brought a hand full of reporters into the room with him.

That's not the way I heard it. Grey had a conversation with Pavin yesterday and asked Pavin point blank (this part is paraphrasing) - Will you pick Tiger Woods if he doesn't qualify automatically?

To which Pavin replied (and I quote) “Of course I’m going to. He’s the best player in the world.” No real chance for a misquote there unless the above question is wrong (and by wrong I mean if Gray asked him - Will you consider Tiger Woods, or something like that. I have heard no reports that suggest that is true though). Today Pavin tweeted “For the record, @golfchannel and Jim Gray has misquoted me re: picking Tiger. I never said such a thing and will not say a thing until 09/07." Then today in the clubhouse at the PGA Gray came up to Pavin and said "You're a liar and you're going down." Gray walked away and Pavin said "You're just going to say that and you're going to walk away now?" Today Pavin also said the following in a press conference with Monty today: "Let's straighten this out right now. I had a conversation with Jim Gray yesterday just outside the locker room near where we registered and he asked me a few questions and his interpretation of what I said is incorrect."There's nobody that's promised any picks right now. It would be disrespectful to everybody that's trying to make the team. I've got quite a few people I'm looking at. I would not disrespect any of the players that are potential players on the team, and obviously there was a misinterpretation of what I said, and that is an incorrect quote."

I agree, and I think Gray is an a$$hat! He turned the Pete Rose "interview" into an inquest. Remember the MLB players refusing to talk to him post game??

One of the many reasons he is on the Golf Channel and probably won't be there long either...

Last I heard the PGA was considering the revocation of his press credentials. The timing of all this drama is interesting given the PGA and Golf Channel both reported that their revenue is significantly down this year compared to last year. Maybe Gray is there to stir up some controversey and get golf in the mainstream news.

I'll go with Corey Pavin on this one. Corey has a lot of integrity as a person and a player. Gray has a bad rep for a reason.

Jim Gray's sycophancy knows no bounds. He probably thinks this stunt will get him an exclusive interview with Tiger (that is, 30 minutes of ass-kissing).

I have to side on Gray here...

I want to amend this; I was on Gray's side until he confronted Pavin in the locker room and said "you're a liar and you're going down." How old is he, five?

I channel surf when he comes on the air, he is a tool. I was never a Pete Rose fan but what he did to him that night was inexcusable. He'll end up on American Gladiators before its all said and done.

Maybe he should go work for the enquirer. The guys a putz. He probably heard what he wanted to hear and got all giddy about getting an exclusive on the story when there was no story. Why would Cory share an exclusive story with that moron.

I think Pavin slipped up a little but since it wasn't a press conference he can back track a bit, happens all the time. Gray should know better than to have reported it as fact, perhaps couched it with a bit realism. No question that the station will now use this as fodder for a few days and egg gray on. Gray is just dumb enough to fall for it all.

Well said, he has a history of being an uncouth, overzealous, reporter. Pavin might have said something that could have been misinterpreted, but anyone with common sense would know that the Ryder Cup captain isn't going to choose the captain's picks until after the PGA Championship.

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
