no and no. a 12 plays the memeber t's which are typically the blues but occasionally something else. The whites are for the old guys...at a club that would mean over 70 or more. I have played with a couple guys that are 75 plus but play memebers...according to them the "whites are for old guys" LOL

in that case i would think you would play off yellow, unless the course is short or easy....

Stick to the club tees.

Funny how everyone does it differently. In SA: Yellow = Championship, White = Men's Club, Blue = Senior Men's (60+), Red = Ladies.

Stretch.

No, in that case yellow is right for you. You can of course play white if you want to, but I'm sure as far as handicap regulation goes, yellow is right for you.

I have a course membership and I play off of all of the tees at various times. Sometimes in the same round if I'm not using it in my handicap. A lot of times if I'm out there playing a practice round and am working on a shot shape or something, I'll play around. I also play off forward tees sometimes, too. But, I can play as much as I want and I can go out and play a few holes off the reds, go in, and start back over from the tips or whatever. Or I'll play forward sees if I'm working on wedge play, etc.

I would look at the yardage, slope and rating when making this decision, not the color of the tees. Lets say the course has a 115 slope and 69 rating from the white (in the US) and 125 and 72 from the blues. For a 12 you should play the blue tees in this situation.

I've never seen anyone do that here, playing different tees that is. I always play yellow, except perhaps if I'm playing white for fun.

Didn't someone tell you in another thread to play the whites? In the US the whites are rarely the farthest back tees. He was probably telling you to not play the back tees.

Switching to different tees during a round is a great way to re-energize your home course. I have started doing it any time I play solo just to make things more interesting for myself. I will play up to 3 different sets of tees in a round sometimes.

Technically speaking for handicap purposes it shouldn't matter which tees you choose to play because the rating and slope change based on the tees providing you with the proper handicap differential for the score you shoot. That being said though you might be used to playing one particular set of tees over the others and statistically speaking those tees could provide you with the lowest differentails overall. So if your aim is to have the best opportunity to lower your handicap you might want to focus on one set of tees in order to learn how best to play them. If your aim is to improve your game overall you might want to mix up your tee selection both for casual rounds and for handicap rounds too. That would no doubt provide you with the most accurate picture of your playing ability and your ability to play to your handicap at your home course and beyond.

Finally the post i was looking for. That cleared it up cheers.

Ill try to mix it up from now on. Ive never seen anyone playing casually off the white tees at my course. Would it be rude to? (im not sure if they are only for comps)

Assuming you are in Europe you might want to double check this with your club pro (or other knowledgeable golf person you know). The reason I say this is because there are differences between the handicap system here in the US and in Europe. I would assume though that there is a mechanism in place to discern between the various tees when it comes to handicap purposes.

Playing the tees that have a distance that seem to fit you is a way of playing the same shots all the time. I like a challenge, I like playing one course at 5500 yards and another at 6500. Playing the same yardage all the time does sound a bit boring too. Mixing up the tees on your home course is a good idea, too bad my home course only got two sets of tees.
