I'm standing over my ball about to go for a par 5 in two when I hear "FORE!" I immediately duck in place and this guy's ball lands about 20 feet from me. No joke, this guy missed his hole by about 150 yards to the right. 150 yards! It threw me off my game and it took me 4-5 holes to get back in the right state of mind.

On a positive note, my 17 year old brother shot his first 79 today.

I'm trying to work out the relevance of the fact that you were going for a par five in two to this tale.
Last week I was standing on the tee pf a par 3 (It wasn't 230 metres and I wasn't hitting a 6 iron) and a ball from the following tee came down vertically and knocked my cap off. There had been no audible "fore" called out.
It gave me a bit of a shock, but it didn't take me more than a few moments to recover.

I think that it is quite common to have a ball landing nearby when you hear someone call "fore".

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

The relevance was that I was real focused on my shot and completely taken by surprise when that ball came down near me. We were a good 130 yards right of this guy's fairway and I would've never thought we were in danger of being hit. At least the guy yelled. What messed with my head was suddenly having to snap out of that focused pre-shot routine and duck. I couldn't concentrate with those guys still teeing off over there...

4-5 holes, thats a bit long man. It happens, why worry about it. Your on a golf course. I almost got hit in the head by a person in our own group, i had to pull matrix moves to get out of the way, it was crazy. Caused a great laugh though. Just laught about it, its happens, move on..

I know what you mean. One of the last times I played there was a group of 4 in front of my friend, some guy we got paired with, and me. This group was on the 4th when we tee'd off. By the time we had hit our tee shots on the 4th hole they were just teeing off on the fifth.

The 4th and 5th fairways run paralell but going opposite directions so as we walked to our balls all of a sudden a ball lands right in the middle of the three of us. No fore yelled! Ok we think innocent mistake the guy we are playing with grabs his club and goes to play his ball and sooner had he pulled his club out fos his bag and taken two steps away that his bag got drilled with a golf ball. Again, no fore yelled.

When they approached us it was two seniors, a women and her husband. So we just accepted their apology and didnt say anything. Needless to say they sucked and it was like the slowest round of my life.

I've had something simliar happen to me. My mom and I were playing a round and we were putting on the green of this par5 and this foursome was behind us. All of a sudden, while my mom is putting, I see this ball land about 10 yards shy of the green and roll up to the backside of the green. No FORE. No anything from the group behind us. To say the least, I was infuriated (and nearly kicked the guys ball of the green in disgust)

One of the guys from that foursome met up with us on the next teebox and explained that he had about 250 to go and didn't think he'd reach the green, but still hit his 3wood and it was the 3wood of his life, as he said. From that, I'm still upset he didn't at least warn us the ball was coming close by yelling FORE - I mean if you aren't reaching the green in 2, why are you hitting a 3wood from 250?

Oh well - I was still upset for a couple holes (my mom didn't realize it was rude and dangerous) but got over it quickly.

Last week, I drove my ball into the right rough and literally right after i hit my second shot and began walking away, a ball hit from someone in another fairway landed hard, right in the spot I was standing just a few seconds earlier. My playing partner and I looked at each other, and the only thing on my mind is, wow............i really lucked out.

Yeah, I'm also confused here.

1. He's getting ready to hit.(par 5 going for it in two) 2. He hears someone yell "Fore" 3. He covers up. 4. Ball lands 20feet away.(two basketball hoops) Seems like everything was handled well.

I guess I do not get it either. Sounds like an excuse for not playing well the rest of the round. Heck, during a high school match years ago on the second hole (a par 5 which I was waiting to go for the green in two) I was hit on the fly on my left elbow

...crap did it hurt. I played the rest of the match with a bag of ice on between shots. I shot 2 under par. It missed you by 20 feet...guy yelled FORE...nothing to see here.

I've got to agree with others - what's the big deal? It's a golf course, and golfers mishit balls all the time. I'll bet you've done it yourself. The player yelled fore, and the ball came near you but it isn't like it winged you or anything. And for this it took you 5 holes to recover? You indicate you're under a 5 index so we'd assume you've played quite a bit of golf, so it seems strange that a common occurence on a course would rattle you so much. And I also wonder how you ever got to be a 5 if you're so easily rattled.

Either get better so you can join the tour and not have to worry as much about other's errant shots, or learn to tough up a bit.

The question is, what did you score on the par 5?

My dad and I were playing one time and there was a father-son twosome behind us. The son maybe 10 or 11, and it looked like the dad was out teaching him the game, but he was terrible. Through 7 holes, he hit into us 3 times, and never said a word. On the 8th tee, I'm standing there watching him hit to the par 3 7th, and I said to my dad, "If he hits into us again, there's going to be a confrontation." Sure enough, he hauls off and fades a shot right at us...and sure enough, he didn't say a word. I walked up to him and not so calmly informed him that the proper etiquette was to yell "FORE", and that if he hit into us again, his son would have the unfortunate experience of watching his dad get his ass kicked.

I laid up on the par 5 8th hole and made par.

I was just surprised that a ball could get over to us where we were (150 yards right). I'm glad the guy yelled and I wasn't upset or anything, I just couldn't seem to get back into that focused zone for a bit after ducking in place after being about to hit my shot. Just had a bit of the unexpecated in the middle of a pretty ordinary round and thought I'd share.

BTW, I parred the hole.

Last week I hit a towering 8 iron from 178 out that landed right on line, about 2 paces past the flag and spun back to about 1 foot directly behind the hole. Oh yeah, and while this was happening somebody on the previous hole, hit the green right where I'd been standing just 2 minutes earlier. I was so rattled I barely made my birdie, then went 2 under for the next six holes.
