Well this morning I had a tee time for 8 16 am. Well in the Northwest it rains from time to time lol. So I get up and it is dumping out side. Get to the pro shop and decide on a bucket of balls frist until my freinds show up. Was hitting the ball great. Freinds show up and we go to the frist tee. I was wet from head to toe. Rain gear wasn't all that good but I was dry in places LOL. Was 4 over at the turn and we decided to take a break for hot coffe and a snack. ( this was a big mistake) I got all stiff and took a few holes to get back into my game. ended up shooting 85 which is great in the rain right?? Almost pulled off a 81 but had a small hicup on 16,17. But that is golf right. Also was using the putter I got for my birthday. Its a nock off ghost putter. Made alot of single putts and only one three putt. That is my worst part of my game too. So do any of you guys like to play in the rain??

I don't mind to play in a drizzle or a light rain during the summer...if its a storm or a heavy, steady rain..I'll just play another day.

My philosophy on golf "We're not doing rocket science, here."

I actually like playing in the rain as long as my grips are still in good shape. The course is usually empty, or nearly so, and it can be a bit refreshing.

Where in Oregon did you play today? I what pouring BUCKETS out my way (SE Portland / Milwaukie OR). No way I was going out in that, it looked like 'Day 1 of the Ryder Cup'. This week is supposed to be nice though.

In FL we get torrential thunderstorms and downpours in the summer. They last for a good 30-40 mins at most then we head back out to a drenched course. Most of the time we just hang out under the rain shelters between holes till it passes. If its a nice drizzle Ill keep playing, but not when its raining hard....whats a 30 mins wait to stay dry and finish my round?

seasons just about slowing down for me here in the pacific northwest... as much as I'd love to golf more, the rain, wind adds for some ugliness out on the course.
I played Saturday afternoon (rained cats and dogs) and it was just not fun for me. Golf for me isn't always a sunny day affair but when your ball plugs up on the fairway in 1/2" of mudd, it just adds for frustration.

You can clean and replace right, kinda like the ryder cup. Doesnt sound like fun playing in that weather tho, I certainly wouldnt

I could if it got a bit excessive. There was one par 3 hole recently, pushed it a bit to the right into the rough which looked like needed some repairing...soft rough with bits of mud.

Saw the thing land but when I got there, couldn't find the ball at all! Turns out the ball was plugged up in the mud. Aside from that, we usually don't clean and replace too often. If you can hit it, we hit it...but you can imagine byt he end of the round what your clubs look like. Cavity turns into blades because the cavity is filled with dirt and mud :)

Get the gloves that grip in the rain, there amazing. We had downpour on my golf trip, it lasted for about two holes, we played through it and the club did not slip in my hands once. I mean rain was streaming down the bill of my hat, rivers were forming in the fairways at low points. These things make underwater golf possible ;b

Yes! Do not underestimate the aweomeness of rain gear! I recently bought some rain pants and a ncie breathable rain jacket. Came at a $$ cost but well worth it. It's so nice to be able to golf in the rain and not have to worry about being all wet.

also, rain gloves do wonders. I tried golfing in the rain with normal gloves on and they were literally shredding apart like every other hole. Rain gloves give you a great firm grip without having to worry about your hands slipping at all.

Living in WA I agree with a lot of the above and don't like the rain much, but if you are picky golfing in the fall and winter isn't too tough. We are having a decent Oct at the moment and I count this as a bonus. I plan on playing later in the week in partly cloudy and low 60's. More of a problem is everyone is aerating their greens limiting the options.

This will be my first winter in the nw. I've been up to visit before and tried to play golf in March and April and the public course was just ridiculous. I saw a guy playing in rubber knee boots. I laughed . . .at first. Balls were plugging so deep in the fairways that they were hard to find . .let alone clean and replace . assuming you could find a piece of ground within 100 yards firm enough to hit off. It's like trying to hit balls off chocolate pudding.

I joined a private course that is supposed to be more playable during the winter. I hope so because I am determined to keep playing as much as possible.

Surprisingly, rain, wind, and cold is my best combination of conditions. I think I use a wider variety of shots so I stay more interested and engaged. I don't wear rain gear either unless it's cold, just don't mind being wet. I think it's actually the soft fairway conditions that make my scoring so much better. I also find I putt better on slower greens (maybe all the excess practice on my living room carpet lol).

Also, my favorite part is that no one is out there when the weather is like that so I can play at my own speed without waiting around.

Nothing like the 2nd match of my golf league, 45 degrees, 30 mph winds, and damp. I would name that british open conditions in Ohio.. Nothing like golfing in Ohio, the hub of wacky weather.

I play in a golf league, earlier this year we played in the rain (if the course is open our league plays). I was a miserable day, rainy, cold, etc. Yet for some reason it didn't seem to bother our league much. Multiple guys shot their best rounds of the year, some guys had personal best rounds, and as a league we carded more birdies that day than any other day in our league for the entire year. Weird. My partner had 3 birdies in a row that day.
