What are you all doing to get ready for the 2011 Season?
As far as :

1. gear changes
2. workout routines
3. lessons
4. personal goals to reach?

For me, as follows:

1. No changes (as of now). I made some significant changes lately, that i plan to stick out and give an honest try. I went from a 52,56,60 wedges set up, to a 54, 58 set up. Maybe to make room for a hybrid, but still not sure. Only bagging 13 clubs right now. We will see. But I am making a promise to myself, NOT to "club HO" next year........

2. I got this workout routine online. I read that it was a traning regimine for new recrutes into the US army. Check it out, its pretty friggen intense. ANYONE who can get through this from start to finish, is in AMAZING shape.

Goal: Fat loss, coordination, strength, and stamina
Duration: Three months, 3 times per week workout
Session length: 30-40 minutes per workout
Atmosphere: Hardcore

Indoor bodyweight workout warm up:
Quick 3-minute jog
Arm circles 30 seconds each way (forward and back) while hopping back and forth on toes.
20 Bodyweight squats
20 toe raises
20 jumping jacks
20 pushups

Stretches:
Chest- arm against wall
Lunge side
Lunge front
Low squat
Forward calf and hip flexor
Bent over lower back and hamstring
Cross body back and shoulder

Workout exercises and sequence:
Push ups continuous for one minute, hold the top position if you cannot continue.
Sit-ups continuous for one minute, hold the top position if you cannot continue.
Pushups 20 repetitions (reps)
Sit-ups 20 reps
Pushups 15 reps
Sit-ups 15 reps
Pushups 12 reps
Sit-ups 12 reps
Body weight squats 1 min
Bodyweight V-ups 30 seconds (sec) This is a sit up where both the lower and upper body come off the ground to meet at a point above your stomach.
Alternate forward lunges 1 minute (min)
Bodyweight V-ups 30 sec
Burpee's 30 seconds From the standing position, squat down and shoot your legs back so that you are now in the push up position. From there pull your legs back in stand up and jump with your armsoverhead.
Side to side lunge

-Break for one minute-
Skip rope for one minute
Bodyweight squats 1 minute
Bodyweight V-ups 30 sec
Low position squat holds (5 second bottom holds) 1 minute
Mountain climbers 30 sec While in the push up position pull your legs in one at a time so that you are essentially running in the horizontal position if you go fast enough.
Bodyweight V-ups 30 sec
Side to side lunge 30 sec
-Break for one minute-

Skip for one minute
Pushups 25
Arm circles 30 sec forward than back Keep thumbs pointing down.
Pushups 15
Arm circles 30 sec forward than back
Pushups 10
Arm circles 30 seconds forward and back
Skip one minute
Bodyweight V-ups 30 sec
Squat thrusts 30 seconds Almost like the mountain climber but while in the push up position both legs are pulled in and shot back at the same time.
Jumping jacks 1 min
Bodyweight V-ups 30 sec
Knees high jog 30 seconds
Butt kicks jog 30 seconds Running on the spot while kicking your own butt!
Side crunches 30 per side
-Rest 30 seconds-

-Finishing ab routine-
Hip rolls x20 Raising the hips and tailbone off the ground, a reverse crunch.
Crunches x20
Static hold bridges for 1 minute. Basically a pushup position but your bodyweight will be resting on your forearms instead of your hands, just hold it!
Repeat circuit 3 times with no rest.

I will be doing this workout 3 times a week (M,W,F) and then yoga on T & Th, with an afternoon lane swim on the yoga days. Should see some good results i think.

3. I am meeting w my "new" coach today. I have hired a full time coach to help get me to the next level. It's gonna cost me a few bux, but i really need to get better.

4. Personal goals for next year, are to make the cut at the Sask. Mid Amateur 4 day tourney. Also want to get index at or below a 1.

Well sorry for the long winded post, but I wanted to share and see what everyone is up to, over the winter.

1. gear changes

Hmm, hopefully changing to the Tietlist driver. I want to get my irons reshafted or switch to AP2's or Mizuno's. I think i will be able to improve better if i am able to get more feel in my game.

2. workout routines

Monday, Wednesday, Friday

1) Light Cardio 2) Weight lifting (walking lunges, squats, back extensions, stability core exercises, power core exercises, upper back, arms) I like circuit training so i can burn more calories as well. They say that the first set is the most important in exercising and all other sets show minimal increase in muscle strength gain. I like to do two runs in the circuit. I like to do non weight machine exercises, mostly resistance training with my own body weight, ie pushups, instead of bench presses. Tuesday, Thurdsay 1) medium to heavy cardio 2) stretching routine, typical plus some Yoga positions If you want a good book, get the men's health book that shows number of exercises, great resource when developing your own routing.
3. lessons

Probably one in the offseason, just to see how my swing looks. Then on at the beginning of the season.

4. personal goals to reach?

75% of all my rounds must be in the single digits, +4 or less for 9 holes, +9 or less on 18. I want that 75% of the time. I want to actually practice my short game, it really hurt me this year, probably 2-3 shots per 18 holes. Not miss a putt inside 5 feet.

Fitting in time to play/practice again. After a shoulder injury then training for a half ironman then wrecking a motorcycle (injuring shoulder again) I can finally say I can swing a club again. I've played once this year and didn't pick up a stick beforehand to even see if I could still hit it.

Starting Stack and Tilt and my major goal would be the tee ball. I lose way too many strokes with OB and lost balls off the tee. To watch me off the tee and then from 170 in I'm 2 different golfers have to hit the big(ger) sticks straighter

1. Pretty much changing my whole bag this winter. Driver, fw, irons, and wedges. Keeping my hybrid and putter.
2. Starting my workout routine back up. I had my shoulder rebuilt last year, then got diagnosed with AS first part of this year. Will be doing a lot of flexibility work.
3. Have started taking lessons with a new coach about 2 months ago. Only taking one a month, but will add another one per month. Swing has totally changed.
4. I want to break 80, and not shoot over 89 again. Become a better ball striker.

WOW...my 2010 season isn't over yet. I normally take a little break and then assess my game this year and figure out how I want to attack it next season. I won't be able to provide a more informative post until the winter.

1.) The only equipment I might "change" is grips, a couple new wedges, and experimenting with a driver reshaft starting with a couple older drivers.

2.) I'm going to try and do more skating (and maybe play a bit of hockey after a long semi-retirement) then work on my core and flexibility.

3.) I'll probably get another lesson package from the guy at Golf Town in Red Deer - I like that guy.

1. no equipment changes I foresee at this point. maybe change out shaft to PX 6.5 and change out FW shaft to x-stiff.

2. lose some weight...thats about it

3. no lessons planned but I foresee needing a few lessons to reconfigure my swing a bit. this year has been interesting as i've experimented quite a bit with my swing. in turn...i feel like its screwed my swing up a bit. Time to make some fixes.

4. back down to scratch is my goal for 2011. for this to happen, i know i need to golf much more than I did in 2010. work on my putting and overall consistency and get down to scratch again.

Oops - goals. Work on consistency so I can play to my index in a Men's Open or two. A 7.0 index feels about right. If I eliminated 3-putts my tee-to-green game would put me in the 3-5 range, but I don't see that happening. Putting has always been my nemesis and pressure putts are that much harder. I just don't want enter a tournament as a 7.0 and then choke my way to an 85.

1. 2009 was "year of the gear," swapped out everything except putter and bag. This was "year of the swing" but kept getting rained out. Will leave bag mix about the same, unless I drop 56* and go with 54* + 58* in CG 14. Need to drop a long club if I do this.

2. Workout - Had crazy third quarter, but things are getting back to normal now. Plan to go to gym twice a week, once for strength and once for power, with cardio at end. Got it going in spring and then whamo! Too much happening.
May try yogi class to increase flexibility and smooth motion - others my age says it helps swing.

3. Lessons - I have video-clip lesson summaries. Need to work on swing-building drills, try to increase lag. Might get a tune-up/ progress check lesson in March.

4. Goals - Eliminate OB tee shots, make sure I don't overdo backswing - goals left over from this year. Also, return to pendulum putting and chipping motion. Tried arc motion last two seasons, it just hasn't caught on.

Focus, connect and follow through!

For 2011...

1. gear changes
-I am going to switch from a 56* to a 54* wedge. Too much of a yardage gap between my 47* PW and 56* SW, not enough of a gap between the SW and the 60.
-I seriously need a new, and better 3W with a better shaft. Thinking R9 or one of the Titleist 909 family, both of which should be nicely discounted soon
-Thinking of going to a heel-shafted, blade-style putter. My PING rolls it nice, but I can't regulate speed with it. I've tried everything. I can hit my line well, but my speed is never right. I'd rather have my speed better and have a harder time hitting my line.
-I'm getting a new, 14-way stand bag to alleviate some of the bag-chatter on my irons and be a little more push cart friendly.

2. workout routines
-I'm going to drop some LBs
-Going to work on stability, rotational strength, and flexibility

3. lessons
-Going to keep up with my local pro/guru
-Thinking of getting some S&T-based; instruction, altough my local pro's swing concept is basically S&T; although he doesn't call it that...he's an old school golf pro/hustler, those guys don't have tidy names for their teachings
-Going to get some putting instruction and stop being a wuss and add a true chip shot with a medium-lofted club into my game

4. personal goals to reach?
-I want to shoot my age for 9 holes...next summer I'll be 30
-I want to get to a point where I feel I have a method for putting and am not a victim of whim, luck or superstition
-I want to drive the ball more consistently
-I want to take my mid-iron game from average/below average to above average or better. There's no reason that I hit the scoring clubs as well as anyone and turn into a 15 HCP with a 5 iron in my hand. It's bullsh*t.
-I want to make the physical improvements to my body to make my swing more consistent and to help my back which is jacked up at an early age

Current Gear Setup: Driver: TM R9 460, 9.5, Stiff - 3W: TM R9, 15, stiff - Hybrid: Adams Idea Pro Black, 18, stiff - Irons: Callaway X Forged 09, 3-PW, PX 5.5 - SW: Callaway X Series Jaws, 54.14 - LW: Callaway X Series Jaws, 60.12 - Putter: PING Redwood Anser, 33in.

1. No plans to change anything at this time. For the first time in about 3 years, I actually think that my bag is pretty set.

2. P90X, let's see if I survive it.

3. I've been working with an instructor for about a month now. I plan to continue that for another lesson or two this fall then start back up as soon as the snow is gone.

4. No goals at this time. I need to reflect on 2010 first.

1. No equipment changes. I'm happy with my current setup.
2. Over the winter I'm going to hit the weights hard to improve my strength while continuing to throw in cardio on off days.
3. Probably not, but we'll see how things go early next season. I finally have a stable schedule so I should be able to work in a consistent practice routine.
4. Get into single digit handicap and beat my brother-in-law. I'll get more specific after this season when I develop all of my goals and come up with a game plan.

1. gear changes - Most likely it will happen seeing that I am a club ho.
2. workout routines - Will be lifting in the off-season if I don't have to go through shoulder surgery. Will work hard on my core and lower body. Also will be doing yoga twice a week to become even more flexible.
3. lessons - Might take a few lessons from a guy who the local kids have been raving about.
4. personal goals to reach? - About a 11 handicap right now without much practice or lessons so next year hopefully I'll be more diligent and actually work on the swing. Going to aim for mid singles next year. Need to work on my long irons, fairway woods, and WEDGES!!! I have never played tournament golf so I would like to try next year if possible.

1. No plans for changes except maybe a hybrid if I come across something I really like. Everything in the bag is treating me well at the moment.

2. Continue yoga 4-5 times per week. Anyone thinking about yoga should stop thinking and start doing. I started a little over a year ago and it has made tremendous differences. Also use some light weights a few days a week a walk 4-5 miles as often as the weather allows. Walked and carried my bag in all but two of the 50+ rounds I played this year.

3. Nothing in this area. Never had a lesson and probably won't start now. Very happy with where my swing is now.

4. Main goal this year was to break 80 and have done it a number of times now. Think I might get greedy and say shooting an even par round is now the goal.

1. This was my year of the gear, new irons and wedges and putter. Next year I'll only be looking for a nice bag to go on my Clicgear cart.

2. Just started P90X Lean. Loving it.

3. Got 6 lessons gifted to me this year so I need to use them. I really need work with the driver and putter.

4. Can't tell my 2011 goals yet. I just want to finish out 2010 with a 17 handicap - my goal was 15, started at 21 so this is a good compromise.

Gear change
- regrip my driver/wood/hybrid
- get a putter that's more fit for my skill level

Practice/Lessons
- another month worth of sessions with my pro
- PUTTING PRACTICE

Basically, I'm hoping/wishing to hit in the 80s consistently.
I believe it can be done if I increase the accuracy of my iron shots and improve my putting.
But then, I do realize it's not as easy as it sounds.

1) Hmm... I may be in the market for a new putter or new hybrids, but for a 15 year old that's about all I could manage, seeing as my parents view golfing as a silly game and wouldn't spend a nickel to help me out.

2) I've been on somewhat of a lifting program, doing high-rep, mid-weight dumbbell exercises 2-3 times a week, trying to get myself motivated to do that 3-4 a week instead. Hopefully on days I'm not doing that I'll be doing cardio (biking, jogging, basketball) of some sort.

3) I've sworn against lessons. Not only do I just wanna learn and have fun on my own, I just plain can't afford them.

4) My ultimate goal for next year is to make the high school golf team. But I'm playing at about a 35 index right now, and that's not very encouraging, but I hope to be down to about a 20 or 25 by the end or middle of next season. I definitely feel like this is doable, with some work on short game and swing consistency. As far as tangibles on the golf course, I want to hit 50-65% of fairways and reach 40-60% of greens in regulation, and maybe increase my distances about 5-10 yards. Hopefully I won't be on a layoff all winter, and be able to do some small things indoors or on clear patches outdoors when there isn't snow, but if I can't I'll be all the more excited to play next season!

    • Meanwhile, another old Tour Edge guy switches to Callaway for this season. I have a different problem, course dependent set-ups. What I’m wondering is if @dragonsmhas the 8 iron set 5-PW, AW, GW or just 5-PW, GW. Because the PW is 42°, AW 47°, and GW 52°. Because that could potentially be a gap there. The 5-iron to 6-iron length jump is 5/8” instead of 1/2” so you should be careful of that.    @WUTiger the problem most people have with 3-woods is they don’t play them far enough back into their stance. And they usually don’t have enough loft and the shaft is too long. So 3HL, 4 or 5-wood is probably better for most golfers. I do the “Frankenwood” approach. I have both the 3+ and 5 woods. I typically will either add two degrees to the 3+ on 6600 yards or longer courses, or take a degree off the 5-wood on shorter courses than 6300 or so, and use the 5-wood shaft for both. I don’t usually find a situation where I need both the 3 and 5 wood on a course. I don’t play from 7000 yards it’s no fun. Edit: I mostly agree with @WUTiger on the gapping, although a lot of the newer even fixed hosel fairway woods are made better than what we had when we were playing the old Exotics XRails.

    • I did read the fine print tonight. It said replace with “similar features & function”.  8 yeas ago my purchase had features that today are available on the lower end models and the current version of my model has more “bells & whistles” than what I got 8 years ago.  So I am thinking they honored the agreement and I can’t argue the offer. since getting a credit for the full purchase price all I am really out over the past 8 years was the cost of the extended warranty, which was less than a low end  treadmill would have cost me. now the question is which model to replace with.  I’ll stay with Nordic Track or I forfeit the $1,463 credit so I will get Nordic Track.  And they honored the warranty and were not hard to work with which is a plus.
    • Generally speaking, extended warranties are a terrible deal and should almost always be avoided. They are a huge profit center for the companies that offer them, which should tell you almost everything you need to know about how much value most consumers get when purchasing them.  This is correct, and the old adage applies - only buy insurance when you can't afford the loss. This usually doesn't apply to most consumer goods.  To your second question, no I don't believe the offer is fair. They are replacing it, but it is not being replaced at "no cost to you". Since the amount being disputed (over $500) is non-trivial, I would probably push the issue. Don't waste your time on the phone with a customer service agent or a supervisor. They have probably given you all they have the authority to do. Rather, I would look at the terms of your agreement and specifically legal disputes. The odds are you probably agreed to binding arbitration in the event of a dispute. The agreement will outline what steps need to be followed, but it will probably look something like this.  1. Mail the Nordic Track legal department outlining your dispute and indicate you are not satisfied with the resolution offered.  2. Open up a case with the AAA (American Arbitration Association), along with the required documentation. 3. Wait about 4-5 weeks for a case to be opened - at which point someone from Nordic Track's legal department will offer to give you the new model at no cost to you.  They certainly don't want to spend the time and energy to fight you over $500. 4. Enjoy your new Nordic Track at no cost to you. I recently entered binding arbitration against a fairly large and well known company that screwed me over and refused to make it right. In my demand letter, I made a pretty sizeable request that included compensation for my time and frustration. Once it hit their legal department, they cut me a check - no questions asked. It was far cheaper to settle with me than to send their legal team to defend them in the arbitration.
