Just curious, seems the mallet heads are the rage lately & alot of guys prefer the blades ... don't hear much about the center shafted putters.      Just curious if they are simply non-traditional or if there's an inherent disadvantage or some other reason they aren't overly popular ... thx

a center shafted, face balanced putter fit a stroke that is typically a SBST (straight back straight through)

not sure what the ratio of guys who put this way, compared to an arc stroke

but the "anser" style blade has been around a long time and lots of guys find this style more appealing

the mallet or #9 styles offer a little more forgiveness as well

For some reason a little while back I went out and bought one thinking that it was what I needed for my putting stroke, but I was way wrong. IMO, with a heel biased or heel shafted putter my misses will generally go in one direction, where as when I used the center shafted, face balanced putter, I could never dial in where my misses might go. For me that putter was mystifying. I could never dial it in.

Love the look of them just can't sink a putt.. Im have an Inside Down the Line Stroke and a Anser style putter works best for me .But if im missing the putts right a  #9 style helps me close the face ..

I've putted so much better since I got a CS putter.  CS putters seem more upright to me which just fits me a lot better.

Center shaft man here, I own several. Just feel more connected to the ball, if that makes any sense. I own 1 heel shafted blade, a Wilson Staff Kirk Currie KC1 that has adjustable head and butt weights. She's a beaut!

I'm close to pulling the trigger on a rife center-shaft 2 bar putter.

I've been back and forth on putter styles, but I always seem to really put a confident stroke on the ball with a center shaft.  Let's see if I can slip an ebay purchase by the wife :)

Oh and I forgot to add, I have an arched stroke and my CS putters are face balanced, no problem there either.

For me it's probably just a result of whatever putter I started with, which was whatever my Dad gave me, and it wasn't center shafted.  I usually try one out when I'm in a golf shop, but I don't seem to hit the ball where I think it's going to go.

The anser style shafted towards the heel is just popular.

Not all center shafted putters are face-balanced. It varies. I went through a cascade of putters from '96-2008, when Scotty was just becoming "Scotty" and Ping Ansers were still the rage. I must have purchased 3-4 putters a year. What a roller-coaster. I've used center shafted putters that are face balance and toe down. Did they fit? I have no idea.

Eventually, I learned by experimenting and learning techniques and grips  (left hand low, saw, claw, etc.), Traditional, Utley, Pat O'Brien, etc.

The secret is to find and practice great fundamentals -- once you have good posture, you're squared up, you've got a grip that doesn't break down, and you have  no moving parts other than your shoulders -- then get fit. I like Edel's wholistic type of system.

But with one caveat, you really can't get fit until you have basic fundamentals. Like a swing, if your putting fundamentals are inconsistent, it's tough to fit. Or if you don't have good fundamentals but you repeat the same motion and don't want to change to good fundamentals, then you can get a good fit.

Just don't waste your money as I did. Unless, of course, you've got money to burn.

Going on two years with one putter... being a putter ho' is akin to being an alcoholic.... it can be a sickness, an addiction, but we all call it ... a hobby.

I recently bought a Yes Carolyne and I'm loving it.  It took a bit to get used to it.  My previous favourite was a Yes Sophia and it'll be tough to take that one out of my bag, I just love the look and feel of striking a ball with that putter.  But I feel much more accurate and consistent with the Carolyne now.
