The most frustrating/disappointing moments golfing?

What is the one thing that really frustrates/disappoints you when golfing?

The reason I ask is on Monday I played a course and I hit what I thought was a perfect wedge shot going right at the flag only to fall short into a bunker.

I was watching the ball thinking it was going to be perfect - and to see it hit the sand was like being punched in the groin.

Blading sand shots is also a good one - which I did with my next shot.

There is one story that always comes up when I think of this. It is related to course management and getting over bad shots. I learned a valuable lesson here that I never forgot.

I was in high school, senior year, at the first match of the year. It was a nine hole match at our home course.

I birdied #1 (par 5, on in 2), birdied #2 (wedge to 1 foot), and then proceeded to miss the green on holes 3,4,5,6, & 7. Miraculously, I managed to get up and down for par on every single one of those holes. I had built up quite a bit of confidence. Two under going into #8, a long par 4. Well I swing too hard and cut my ball into the rough and under a pine tree. I should have just hit a small punch out into the fairway, but didn't.

I ended up with a double bogey on 8 and followed it right up with a bogey on 9. It ended up not effecting our positioning in the match, but on a personal note it was very frustrating. I was frustrated with myself for letting myself do that. To the best of my knowledge though that was the last time I truly let one bad shot turn into a string of bad scores.

That's another one. I always try and do some sort of miracle rather than punch it out.

Punching it out would have a success rate of around 95%

About once every couple of round I shank a chip or short pitch.  It comes out of nowhere, and it always eliminates any possibility of making a par.  I never have that problem with any other shot, and I can be chipping great right up until that moment.  Then it sticks in the back of my mind for the rest of the round.  I have to say that is the most frustrating issue with my game right now.

I absolutely hate it, when i hit an approach shot really fat/thin after a perfect drive.

Another thing that frustrates me is when i blade a chip/pitch into a greenside bunker or water.

When you mess up a chip shot and it goes 2 feet :(

Also, messing up the next shot after a great drive..it always seems to happen.

Those are pretty much it, terrible approach shots and blading short chip shots. And they are once, maybe twice a round. Those are the reasons why I am not a single digit handicap right now.

I would say GIRs that lead to 40 to 50 plus foot putts.

You want to be on the Green in 2 but then when you 3 putt a hole for bogey it leaves a sour taste for the next hole.

When you get a GIR and end up 3 putting for a bogey.

For me, the most frustrating part of golf & really the only time I get totally upset with myself ... long par 5 for example - hit a nice drive, hit a nice long iron, time for an easy wedge shot in ... hit it fat about 40 yards short.     I hate fat wedge shots more than anything else I've encountered in golf (I do it way too often).

That is it for me.  I used to struggle off the tee a lot, but it has gotten much better.  But the one thing that still will ruin an entire round for me is when I hit that 15% tee shot (meaning, with Driver or 3 wood, you hit it perfectly in the middle of the fairway where you wanted and it goes 10 yards further than your average distance) leaving me in abnormally excellent position.  We're talking a short wedge shot into a par 4 and you're thinking about birdie...and then you hit it fat and leave yourself with a 50 yard up-and-down for par.

That can ruin a round for me.

Having OB on the left, and knowing there is a clearing behind the first line of trees on the right, i just take a shot and blast a 3-wood down the right tree line. If i draw it its fine, i hit a slight fade, the ball would land in a spot i know i could get lucky and have an opening at the green. This course doesn't have many trees, but somehow it hits a tree so solid, the ball goes 40 yards right of my intended landing area. That is insane.

Accidently misclubbing is pretty bad.

Ouch! That had to hurt! It's for this reason why I always kick in for skins play. And the only time I ever play the lottery is when my coworkers go in on the pot. Infinitesimal as the chances may be the thought of watching my co-workers walk out the door after winning would be too much to bear. I consider it as a kind of insurance. Back on topic.

Most disappointing moments for me is when I know at address something isn't right and I go ahead with the shot anyway. Of course it turns out to be a lousy shot and I berate myself for not backing off when I knew something was wrong. Getting worked up now just thinking about it.

Lipping out putts all day.  Nothing drives me more insane but...a close second would be

2. Bad chip shots

3. chunking 60-70 yard shots after good drives

4. Dropping another ball after you hit a poor shot and then proceeding to hit an absolutely pure, perfect shot

5. topping a ball off of the tee.

I do this all the time and I always tell myself 'next time I'll just back off the shot' but I never do.

Most annoying - when the cart girls is not attractive and/or doesn't have alcohol. Otherwise hitting 3 (or 5) from the tee because I knock it O/B on the drive.

i hate losing my expensive balls the most. i don't care if i hit a bad shot, but if i lose my ball..... its a different story...
