What's the most commonly preferred tee length for using with the driver - 2 3/4" or 3 1/4"? I wish someone made a good 3" tee but I can't find them.

Totally up to you. That is something that you can easily work out on the range. For me I prefer Pride Pro Length 2 3/4" yellow on white tees for driver. Anything else I use a broken tee at ground level.

I prefer the medium length tees because I don't tee the ball especially high.  The really long tees are only good for 1 swing....LOL

Funny sidenote.....I've never purchased tees before.

I use 2 3/4". I don't like having the mid-point of the ball sit any higher than the top of the clubface at address, so that height is fine for me no matter how high I want to adjust my tee. My driver (Adams Insight a3) is toward the deeper-face end of the scale, so it's almost hard for me to imagine someone needing 3 1/4" unless they didn't want to come close to the ground while swinging.

Standard 2-3/4, its perfect length for me. Though i use broken tees for my irons and 3-wood.

I'm sharing the sentiment of everyone else in terms of using broken tees for my irons. I've seen my friends dig 3 1/4" tees in the ground the WHOLE way to tee up their irons...it's like...what are you doing? But for my driver, I prefer the 3 1/4" tees. I don't tee up super high, but high enough that I can only JUST stick the 2 3/4" tees in the ground and I got sick of the tee falling over and having to re-tee my ball every other hole.

The 2 3/4" tees are fine as long as the ground isn't too sandy. 3+" tees are just too long for anything other than a driver. I usually search for a broken tee on any hole I hit an iron off the tee.

I feel like an alien. I use pink castle tees which are 2 3/8 long and leave 1.5" above the ground to tee up. That leaves the ball's equator exactly in line with the top of my driver's face.

I did recently buy some silver castle tees which are 2 3/4 long and leave 2" above the ground to see what effect they have on my drives, I've just chickened out of using them in case I hit under the ball and scuff my driver head. lol

I use 2" 3/4. Not that it matters really, as the height is determined by how far you push it into the ground.

Being in the golf tee business, I think everyone should use a new tee on every hole. Job security. I prefer 3-1/4 for my driver. Actually thats all I use anymore even for irons, I don't feel like keeping a couple different sizes in my pocket. I used to use broken tees for my irons but now that I don't ever have to buy them I just push in the 3-1/4 all the way. Pride Pro Length Plus is what I like to use.

I prefer the 3 1/4" tees simply because they dont fall over after you tee your ball as much as the 2 3/4" sometimes do.  I also use tees that are about 2" long that are perfect for irons, hybrids and fairway woods.

 • 1 year later...
I have read more than once that 2 3/4 tees were for drivers under 360 cc and the 31/4 for drivers over 360 cc. The same recommendation as say that the center point of the ball should be even with the top of the driver which would then seem to make sense out of using. The 3 1/4 for most of today's drivers. But in the end I suppose it is really a matter of personal preference.

I use the ProLength yellow tees, 2 3/4" long. With the yellows, I tee the ball top even with the crown of the driver.

One article from the past season suggested tee height should vary by whether you were a driver or a launcher . A driver supposedly sweeps the tee shot off the ground, hitting the ball in the back, while a launcher hits the ball on more of an upswing. Supposedly, drivers do better with a slightly shorter tee height.

Also, I have some 1 7/8" tees which I use with irons and FWs. Broken tees often get snapped off crooked on our tee boxes, and don't go back in ground very well.

Occasionally I end up on tee boxes with unusually soft soil, and I wish I had some blue 3 1/4" so the tee would stand up without having to stick it in so far.

Focus, connect and follow through!

I can use just about anything, because I only tee my driver a little more than a 1 inch anyway.
