I'm curious, because I have been watching swing videos and have become completely obsessed with the game of golf. I didn't really know it until I saw an Arnold Palmer swing from way back in the day. A well rotating body in the back swing and down to follow through with out that "hipslide" that the Pros seem to be doing today. At the finish of the follow through, he would do this funky wrist action as he slowed the club to a stop.

I was doing something fairly similar until some guy told me that I was swinging all wrong. I'd keep my body straight and it seemed to work quite well. I changed according to the advice and all of a sudden I start spraying everything completely; slice after slice. I am officially going back to my Arnold Palmer-esque swing. :-D

I had a golf assessment from a local pro a couple of weeks ago and I apparently have some resemblances to Lee Westwood's swing (which, incidentally I don't overly like! lol)

Most likely Daffy Duck.

That's just a guess because I've never had a video of  my swing, and I never plan to.  I know how my swing is supposed feel when I do it right, and that's all I worry about.

Why not get a video of your swing? Slow motion video of your swing is one of the best tools out there

In terms of my swing...I don't really know....

At times throughout my 30+ year golfing career have employed an Arnold Palmer type swing. Unfortunately I could never dupli

Palmer's backswing would be classified stack and tilt today and he had a huge upper body rotation. But, like you said, he did not employ a large hip slide on the downswing (he rotated/turned his hips violently to the left instead). Without other compensations, this would result in a huge duck huck. So, Palmer counteracted that by trying not to rotate his forearms at impact. Meaning, he tried to keep the back of his left hand moving towards the target after impact  and deliberately held off the finish. So the cause of his funky finish was actually a lack of wrist action, so to speak.

Actually it'd tend to show itself as pulls and big slices. Someone who just rotates sends the path left quickly. Palmer slid his hips forward less than many - but he still pushed them forward about four inches.

Understand where you are coming from but I'm going by what Palmer said himself, that he had a tendency to duck hook. And I said he didn't employ a large hip slide, not that he didn't have a hip slide. But more importantly, I was trying to explain the mechanics behind Palmer's follow through to the OP who described it somewhat msisleadingly as a "funky wrist action", when it was actually a product of Palmer trying not to employ any wrist action.

I suppose from a distance that's the point, because I do feel my timing goes haywire when I actively cock my wrists or lay the club off (if that's the correct term) at the top, but it's her tempo I really like.

Here's the top of my back swing at the range on Sunday. Not exactly John Daly.
