Been playing the E 6 but dislike the fact that all my shots roll off the green. I just can't seem to stop them. I do like the straightness of the E 6 off the tee. Anyway what do you guys think of the nxt tour.Could it be a good in between ball? Thanks

the nxt tour spins more than any other ball in that line, and more than any ball in the DT line (from my experience). as of now, i judge spin more off of how the ball reacts to pitches/chips rather than full swing shots. greens are so soft in my area that balls from a full swing on anything from a 6 iron to AW usually stay within a few feet of the pitch mark (either behind or in front of it). because of this, i've actually been playing with $10 boxes of top flites that come in 15-packs, and more recently, been playing with titleist HP3 distance for a little more greenside control.

truth be told, though, you're probably not going to see your ball check up just because you change from an E6 to nxt tour...

I had the same problem with the e6 (I bought it when I got my first driver and was worried about slicing it). It's nice and long and straight but always shoots through the back of the green for me so I found myself frequently choosing a shorter club to allow the ball to roll up onto the green. Also feels lighter and 'clicky' on the putter face and skitters a short way before starting to roll on putts. Didn't get on well at all with it.

I then tried the NXT Tour and the e5 and they both suited my game much much more. Of the two I liked the NXT a little bit more for the feeling off the putter and touch around the greens. Short/Mid-irons they were comparable with a little more check on the NXT. Woods and driving I found the e6 to be a shade longer.

I have been using the 2010 NXT Tour this entire season.  I have really liked this ball a lot.  It does not get the roll out that the e6 and NXT seem to do.  I am a high handicapper and I can keep it in play off the tee and it reacts very well with my putter.  My issue is that now that I have had a few lessons and am striking the ball better I am shredding them with my wedges.  I mean the ball looks like it has shredded cheese coming off it.

I am not sure if it is the 2010 ball that is doing it or if it is just that I am making much better contact.  The ball will only last 2-3 holes assuming I use a Approach or Gap wedge into the green.

If I could play the E6 off the tee and then swap it out with the NXT Tour around the greens that would be my ideal ball.  I've stuck with the NXT Tour as my main ball due to it's availability in the used market, price and spin on the greens.

The E6 is longer and my buddy loves it. He doesn't hit many greens so he relies on his short game. I have played the NXT Tour and liked it. I noticed I needed to make sure I had an "extra sleeve" (all of my balls are used except the ones I win in scrambles) because I would shred the mantle after 3 holes. I have never done that on any Bridgestone ball I have ever sampled. I liked B330S. Once again, I find them used, I don't pay for them.

Hi,

I posted a thread asking what a good ball would be for a high handicapper and settled on 3 or 4 makes ( which i am hoping to buy a bulk load of one of them soon ).

I noticed some of these makes / models mentioned here and am worried by the below reference to shredding. I would say my strength at the moment is my short irons / wedges.. i shred every range ball i hit with these clubs plus most i hit on the course, so does this mean going for an nxt, ad33, noodle etc just means im swapping out benefits? ie I'm swapping for a more forgiving ball but also mainly for value as i lose a lot of balls on my long game, but if im losing and shredding these new ones to pieces is that not counter productive?

To be honest the golf ball scuffing thing is always blown out of proportion. Unless you're a scratch player who plays the ball at the exact height, trajectory and spin that you planned to, a scuff will make very little difference except for a couple of yards deviation at most. In fact if I remember correctly balls used to be completely smooth until clever caddies started scratching marks into the balls on purpose to give their player a better advantage and at that point ball manufacturers followed suit.

For me if my ball doesn't have any gouges, cuts or chunks out of it I'll keep playing it (and make sure I remove the excess urethane from my Vokeys! lol)

AD333's - Vokeys have shredded them.

Bridgestone e5's - Vokeys have shredded them.

Bridgestone e6's - Vokeys have shredded them.

Titleist ProV1x's - Vokeys have shredded them.

Titleist ProV1's - Vokeys have shredded them.

Titleist NXT Tours - Vokeys still shred them.

Other than keep playing as I am, the other two solutions are therefore to buy ultra durable rocks or to buy less spinney wedges and allow for rollout.

I've tried quite a few different balls and for me, the NXT Tour is the best bang for the buck on the market.  Others will surely have other balls they'd prefer, which is fine.  Related to this thread, I "took a couple breaks" from the NXT Tour to play Srixon and the Bridgestone e5 and e6 models.  For me, I don't mind losing a little distance playing the NXT -- just a little -- because their short game performance is good.

When business is good, I'll play Pro V1's and I'll scuff those suckers in a hurry!  But as opposed to others who have posted on this thread, I haven't had notable durability issues in terms of scuffs with the NXT Tours.  For me, the combination of cost, adequate distance, spin around the greens, and durability are why I say -- at least for me -- they're the best value on the market.

What's in the Bag:
Driver: Taylormade SLDR 12*
3-wood: Taylormade Burner 15*
Hybrid: Taylormade Burner 19*
Irons: Callaway XR

Wedges: Vokey 50*, 54*, 58*
Putter: Scotty Newport Studio

I'm using NXT Tours and have no complaints with playability or durability. At $0.53 per ball I can't go wrong (used AAAA quality from lostgolfballs.com). Haven't tried the E6.

E6 is nice off the tee - flies long and straight.  On the green it's not as good at stopping but if you're good at chipping around the green with you might like it better overall.  I prefer the NXT Tour overall because it doesn't hurt me too bad on drives and I can stop it pretty quick on the green with 8i - wedges (my chipping is horrible).

FWEISW here are my experiences.

The e6 is a low spin ball.  Straight but not very good around the greens.

the PRO V1x is a great ball but too expensive for a retired guy although the price is semi-reasonable from Lostgolfballs.com.

The e5 is a good ball with reasonably low spin off the driver and pretty good spin with the irons (good around the greens)

My personal favorite is the NXT tour which is like the e5 but better around the green for me.

My complaint about the e5 and NXT Tour is they don't come in yellow and at my age I don't see white balls very well under some conditions so I just bought some yellow QStars and am hoping it is the "ideal" ball for me.  I'll let you know after I play a few more rounds but so far so good.

Go get some Srixon tri-speed TOUR balls, I think they're better than the NXT Tour.

In my Ogio bag.

Titleist 910D2 driver, Adams irons & hybrid, Callaway wedges & a Nike Method putter.

And a yellow ball.

I tried the E6 today again for two holes. I couldn't hold the greens but got great distance off of the tee. I switched to the Noodle. The Wilson Noodle held the greens better and still hit long off of the tee. Neither ball is better than NXT Tour, but the NXT scuffs easier.
