Yeah, I was thinking about that earlier today. I saw some coverage of women's tennis, and all I could think was, man I do not want to watch this. I want to see Olympic sports!! I promptly changed to another network. I did watch Wimbledon coverage, so I like tennis but I love golf and watch PGA golf regularly, but I'm not sure how it'll play out as an Olympic sport. The exposure should be good for the game, we'll see how it plays out.

Just felt like throwing that out there.

I will watch about as much of it as I watch tennis at the Olympics. None.

The bottom line is that in that one Olympic tournamnet every four years, it will be at best, the 5th most important tournament. In a 4 year period it will be the 17th most important tournament, just like in tennis. In swimming and athletics, and almost everything else, it is THE most important event of the four years.

The  Olympics is the pinnacle of sport. But not golf or tennis.

This is 100% true in my opinion and I would not watch it either to be honest. I am also a complete addict and once scheduled vacation time just to watch The Masters and The Open Championship from start to finish.

The Olympics and Golf mix about as well as Jack and Cranberry juice. I'll pass.

Why is it silly? Its a competitive sport. It should have been in the olympics since the games inception. Especially when trampoline jumping is a ****ing Olympic sport.

Golf was played in 2 olympic games, I'm glad they're bringing back the tradition.

I think the value will go down if they let the pros play. What ever happened to the Olympics and amateurs?

I'll watch it, just like I watch any other tournament like Doral or The Players championship.  I agree it will never become as big as a major.  I've never really got into the Ryder Cup/Presidents Cup, and I would actually prefer to watch Olympic Golf instead.  I don't know that either one would make me want to take vacation time off in order to watch it.

Do you think it will pass this sport in popularity?

If I am not mistaken (Sadly I frequently am ) the whole amateur Olympic thing went the way of the dodo bird around the time of the Dream Team in '92.  We got fed up with the idea that other countries were using their pros (or at least pros in the sense that they are going to sports schools from the time they are real young and everything except their sport is secondary) and decided to follow suit.  Or something along those lines.

On that note:  While we're watching the Olympic diving competitions, I keep trying to convince my wife that the Chinese divers - who have won every Gold medal so far and I have yet to see them  even make a splash - are actually robots.  Those special tape strips they have on their backs (same ones as Yani Tseng and many tennis players) are actually covering up the access panel to their wiring.

Ha, how does that sport even work? This is the first time I've ever seen videos of it, I had only heard before that it was the only sport more boring to watch on TV than golf.

I really don't find golf boring at all when watching it. It actually makes me appreciate the level of talent that I'm watching even more, but I am 100% addicted to golf so it is understandable that I can watch Golf Channel 24/7 - in my dreams at least. My wife lets me have my occasional Sunday viewing hour, but the minute I go back out to check the grill or grab a snack n' beer, it's changed to Bravo or MTV! lol

Anyway, if things like Fencing, Curling, Equestrian games, Ping Pong,  etc. are in the Olympics... I really do not see why Golf would not fit in or be enjoyable to watch. I would most definitely watch it, at least until Real Housewives of New Jersey comes on and the remote is no where to be found....

Anyone know what the format will be?  If they create some type of Ryder Cup format it may be of interest.  If it is just another stroke play or basic match play I don't think it will be very compelling.

Track and field is the classic Olympic venue.....You are you the fastest?  A guy that normally runs 10.0 in the 100meter can't have a good/lucky week and suddenly run a 9.65 to have a chance to beat the best. The top/best athletes win..............the scmucks don't make the finals.

Golf should not be an Olympic sport.  Olympic golf will be a meaningless/worthless exhibition.

    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
