Wife Started Playing.... And Loves It!

Been together for 7 yrs married for 5. Ive always bn involved in sports, her never. Bought her a set of clubs and coue of lessons in Aug. Just played 9 holes with her and had a blast. Shes now played 3-4 times. I let her tee it up in the fairway as well as use a tee to make sure the clubface is square. She is hitting her 6 iron abt 80 yds (carry), and if she is having a really bad hole she just picks up instead of getting frustrated and I finish hole. Believe me, im as surprised as anyone that of all the things weve tried to do together, who knew golf would be the one we arent ripping each others heads off! P.S. She just had her first legit par on a par 3 from the red tees and we had to quit due to darkness. She is also easy on the eyes in the Natalie Gulbis outfits. Created a monster.....anyone else have similar experience....?

Congratulations!  That's good to hear.  I've tried several times to convince my wife to give golf a try, but she has no interest.

Mine didnt either. One thing that helped is I have included her in my quest to break 80. Abt once every other week she goes with me. Althgh she dsnt play she will keep track of my shots using a golfapp. She also will keep my score and she knows what I need to tey to break 80, so she will say I really need u to one putt this one so make sure u dont leave it short, and I dont ask what my score is except at the turn and after 18. Believe me weve had our share of golf related arguments but for whatever reason things seem to be clicking now so I wont complain. Good luck.

On our first date, my wife saw my 3wood leaning up against the wall in my living room, and asked if she could hit a ball. There is a field across the street from my house so I said sure. We go out, and she rips a shot with a slight fade, and I thought to myself, 'I think this might work!' (she had played some when she was younger and worked at a CC.  We have since joined a local CC, and she doesn't play as often as she would like due to other responsibilities, but golf has become a core family activity, esp with our son and daughter. Our little girl is quite good, and can often smack her drive ~200 (c'mon scholarship!).

yo... you got a great wife! Short comings and all, if she's willing to do all that for/with you, that says a lot. You got any kids? 

My wife is great but she's not in to golf all that much. perhaps once the kids leave the nest. 

I golfed with a an older married couple last week. It was cool to see the camaraderie between the two as they played together. Hopefully you two will be able to enjoy the sport together for many years to come as well.

Yes, 12 yr old stepdaughter, 15 stepson. Dont get me wrong, this is a new development but has def bn a great change. We have taken kids on slow days but getting her excited abt it has bn the key. Ive seen a few couples who.played together (rather well) and it is something to see. The cple I saw last Sat really looked like they were having fun. At least right now mine is excited, hope it lasts.

Mine enjoys it as well, though she plays once-twice a week, to my four or five.

My wife is nearly as avid as I am ... she's probably played over a hundred times in the 2 years we've been playing.   Great couples time ...

My wife has no desire to play, thank God. We've been married 39 years and I love her to death, but I enjoy the time out with the guys.

Been married 13 and I feel the same way. Golf is my thing, I do it for the serenity and nothing ruins serenity like a wife hahahahaha.

To clarify...I don't want mine out there every time either. But we've tried so many other sports and nothing has caught on, so I'm glad we finally found something we can do. It's odd that it's golf since that was previously a point of contention. I play 3-4x per week, and she joins in usually once a week or once every other week.  Couldn't take more than that myself!  Thanks for all the comments.

Married 21 years............and glad my wife doesn't play.  LOL

 

 

 

If she did, she'd need to find her own group and hire a babysitter when our kids were littleb2_tongue.gif

Still working on getting my wife to play. We have a young child (16 months, our first) so I suggested taking up golf as a way for us to do an adult activity. She said she's willing to try it as long as we buy her pretty clubs f4_glare.gif

My wife and I play with another couple once a week.  She likes it but is not as avid as I am.  She has fun though.

 

Your approach is good too.  We played best ball the first six months to keep play moving.  My wife was a novice and so was our friend's husband.  Now they are both much better and we play straight stroke play.  Our pace is very good and could do nine in two hours or less if we did not have to wait.

 

If you can, spend a little time at a grass range with her to give her more confidence.

I forgot on added benefit.  Now if you go somewhere nice for vacation, and there is a great course nearby, you get to play!!!!!
