ok so i have a very good opportunity to work on golf. I recently quit my job and sold my house to start my own business which gives me some extra free time. also i am taking lessons at a local course and with those lessons i get free use of the range as much as i want. i started playing golf again in september. before i went on hiatus i was shooting high 70's low 80's. no official handicap or anything. since starting in september again i started at mid 90's now I'm down to mid-high 80's. my goal is to be a scratch golfer by my birthday in september. it is my new years resolution and i figure i'll make a golf journal thing of rounds i play (including tournaments on the Am tour i joined) sooooooo here we go

January 3rd

Course - Oak Valley 6372 yards 71/131

Score 86

FIR - 8

GIR - 5

Putts - 31

Cool... I like stuff like that.  I enjoy keeping my own journal and looking back on it from time-to-time.  It doesn't seem that too many people here actually respond to things like that, but... it's still cool to keep one for yourself.

Good luck with your year and playing towards your goal.

I look forward to following along.

So, you're going to start a business and in your spare time become a scratch golfer, before September?

It's good to have goals.

It's a goal... it's not life-or-death.  I don't understand the need for passive-aggressive posts like these.

I'm sure when you first learned to play golf, you had a goal to become a single digit handicap.  You're there now.  Perhaps his goal is slightly more specific in that he wants to become a scratch golfer by September.  Is that reason to reply like you did?

He's looking for support.  If you're not willing to support him, j ust let it be.

Perhaps the world would be a better place to live if people who fail at their goals didn't tear down the goals of others?

I have no words of wisdom for you, except that you need to have a plan for years down the road, money wise.

Other than that, all I can say is good luck to you, and hope both goals are met.

When I saw the title of the thread I figured I should post this :-P

Good luck with the new business.  With the golf, it's good to set goals but be specific with how you want to achieve them, identify the steps you need to take to get there.  Write them down or post them here.

The bamboo ones are nice but when I saw this bad boy with the telescopic handle at a black bear diner I just had to have it.

As a small business owner free time is not generally a luxury if you want some success. Especially if you have a family. Be prepared to get up very early. I am starting year four of a five year plan, which is probably still unrealistic. One year is tough, hopefully you have a lot of free time.

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
