What changed your game?

My handicap has dropped a touch recently and I'm shooting in the 80''s quite often now!
I think I can put it down to one, or both of two things!
1, buying a hybrid, I ditched my fw woods and bought a hybrid, this has definitely saved me shots! (I'm getting another)
2 alignment, I have developed a pre shot routine that basically is all about alignment, standing behind the ball, spotting the target area, picking a spot 2 or 3 ft in front of ball, and then setting up to hit ball over that spot!
I've only been doing these in the last 6 weeks and even my friends have noticed the difference in my scores, as I'm beating them more often! And I'm enjoying golf more than ever at the mo!
Has anybody else had some game changing equipment or ideology that has dramatically improved their game/scores?
And if so, let's share!

When I first started my golf journey, my scores steadily dropped from the high 90s into the high 80s. However, I became stagnant there. I could shoot 88s all day, everyday with out much effort. What really helped my game to where I could break 80 every once in a while, was to make sure my hands were ahead of the club face at impact. My iron play improved with this swing thought. My next improvement was due to two swing thoughts. First was swinging to right field with an in to out, back in swing path. Second was slowing down my swing, because I finally got it through my thick skull that accuracy was much more productive than non usable, longer distance. After that it was lots of practice, using my own practice routines that allowed me to play at lower, single digit hdcp. Of course I don't think any of these three swing thoughts would have been as positive as they were, if I had not been properly fitted for clubs. The fitting also included my putter.

For me it was buying and learning to use my first metal driver and 3W.  I bought a TaylorMade Burner (9.5°) in about 1988.  I liked it well enough that I added a 8.5° TM Tour Driver in spring of '89.  My handicap dropped from 18 to 11 that year, and the big drop came in August at the club championship where I entered with 16 handicap, and shot 4 rounds of 88-84-73-78.  I'd never before broken 80, and the 73 is still a personal best.  I had also changed my irons that spring from a set of Lynx Parallax to MacGregor RPM in manganese bronze.

What ever the cause, I seemed to suddenly understand the game better.

I'm still Evolvring. Not seeing lower scores yet but definitely striking the ball better.

When I went from 12-8 it was almost exclusively due to eliminating big #s (trying low %shots)

From 8 to where I am now has been a combination of lessons, practice, and confidence

I'm also hoping investing in a scotty Cameron and a putting lesson will change my game some more!

If you're going to spend a lot of money on a putter, I would recommend spending it on an Edel

Well I received a mint 2nd hand scotty from wife, apparently less than half retail! So I'm gonna have to use it even if it sucks!
However, I've heard many great things about edel, and I'm not sure about their availability in the uk, but when my wedges need renewing I'm definitely going down that route! And will prob enquire about a putter then too!
Here's my new toy:

Adjusting my grip changed my game last week. Following the instructions in a thread by mvmac showed me my grip was wrong. Adjusting it to what he showed in the thread help eliminate most of my slice.

Along with an incorrect grip, thinking about making a proper hip turn and too fast of a backswing also contributed to me slicing. Once I stopped worrying about hip turn and slowed my backswing the ball goes straight.

I'll take 200 yards straight down the fairway anytime instead of 170 down the fiarway and in the trees or out of bounds.

Yeah I'm surprised there isn't more Edel fitters in the UK http://edelgolf.com/international-edel-golf-distributors

Biggest helps for me were two points I picked up from lessons months apart. The first was learning to release the clubhead, which I wasn't doing, and it was causing shanks and other nasty stuff. Learning to do that has transformed my game. I added about 15 yards of distance on each club and learned how to hit the center of the face more often. Also took me from a slice / fade to a nice draw. The second thing that helped, and this was just last week, was a simple thing about grip and posture I had from another lesson with another pro. Having the grip of my left hand more in my fingers and showing more knuckles (I always forget if that makes it stronger or weaker for a righty golfer) has helped me be a bit more consistent because combined with posture adjustment, I don't feel like I'm making as big of a turn (and it was really big before), so I'm swinging within myself much more now and I can hit down at the ball. I'm working on eliminating the instinct to flip the club at impact that I tend to do a little, so that's where I am now. But I shot my best score ever this weekend, more caused by the short game I've neglected while working on my irons and 3 wood, than it was by my longer clubs, which were really strong yesterday.

So, long winded answer, I would say that implementing changes that improved my fundamentals have been most transformative to my game.

I am still around 11, but I am finally starting to get into 70's more often with a personal best 76 this past weekend.

I would say hitting the ball with my body, finally starting to turn through the ball as opposed to hitting the ball with my arms/hands.
