2015 RBC Canadian Open Discussion Thread

The RBC Canadian Open will be played at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Ontario, Canada this week. The Jack Nicklaus-designed course will play as a par-72 measuring 7,273 yards for the event.

The field this week is set to consist of Bubba Watson, Jason Day, Matt Kuchar, Graeme McDowell and two-time RBC Canadian Open champion Jim Furyk, although The Open Championship’s Monday finish at St. Andrews in Scotland may have an impact on participation.

Last year, Tim Clark shot a final-round 65 at Royal Montreal, where he birdied five of his last eight holes to beat out Furyk by one stroke. Clark is back this year to defend his title.

I can't wait for this week. Our national Open in Canada. I'm hopeful for DeLaet or any other Canadian players to win this week. It's been since 1954 that a Canadian won the Canadian Open.

They should've more courses in the rotation since there's so much great courses across the country, for example from Cabot Cliffs in PEI, Muskoka Bay Club, north of Toronto, to Point Grey in Vancouver. Also, they should move the Canadian Open to June to get more star players travel North of the Border... :)

I'm mostly rooting for David Hearn but it would also be fun if someone like Mark Leishman won.

I'd like to see the Canadian Open played at the Kananaskis golf course.

A Canadian hasn't won since 1872 so that would be nice if one could take it.


If that is true then WOW!  I hate to laugh but is kind of sad. Forget the fact that there are not many Canadian golfers. They have had 143 years to win it just one time? Hard to believe. If a Canadian does win it, there should be a Stanly Cup style celebration.

We have a ton of golfers in Canada but not too many seem to make it to the highest levels sadly.Graham DeLaet is our current hopeful I think!

That sucks partly because it means more pressure on Hearn. Maybe Adam Hadwin will step up to the challenge but I'm not holding my breath.

Caught some of it on TV yesterday, I love the tall trees surrounding most holes on the course, a very different feel from most tour venues, seems very laid back compared to the intensity of The Open last week.

The PGA site's leaderboard now shows Graham DeLaet as withdrawn. I guess his thumb got worse overnight. That sucks partly because it means more pressure on Hearn. Maybe Adam Hadwin will step up to the challenge but I'm not holding my breath.

Hearn looks like he's handling it well. A smooth 63, three back of Chad Campbell who was on fire today.

Ya Hearn with a 8 under second round is great news.

It's good to see Chad Campbell playing well. I think for the last couple of years he has been playing on the Web.com tour.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

Unless he goes full on dumbass tomorrow, David Hearn will become the first Canadian to win their national open since '54.


I'm not saying Hearn won't win it, on the other hand. No way do I put money down saying he will.

Just a FYI, Binghamton Senators fan here.  Seen quite a few games up there.  Someday, I'd like to take a little longer trip to see the big boys play.

I would probably be a mini mob scene if he does pull it off.   Not to wish any ill will on anyone, he does have two big guns breathing down his neck.  I think one of those two will take the prize.

      I get kidney stones. So 100 oz of water every day. Some nights I drink 32oz between midnight and 6 Am. Which means I dont sleep much.

      I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.

      For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
