Could use the ‘How did you score today?’ thread as your ‘diary’ 🙂 I enjoy reading how people play. I’m going to start posting in there more regularly this year.

NZ... on the day you shot 77 did you putt "lights out" or was the whole game better than usual?

The whole game was better still had a few issues with driver early on but had great recovery shots

2x birdies 9x Pars 7x Bogey

I really was just enjoying the game with a very social golf mate(he scored over 100+) no pressure ... Putting was good 28-30 putts etc

My next(sub 80's) 79 was bi-polar front nine 45 (only 1 par the rest bogeys 1x DB) but back nine I ripped a 34 (3x birdies 1x Bogey 5xpars)

I think I know what my major issues are(Mental+swing basics+PSR) which seem to compound when nervous.(playing in Club Comps etc)

Yes true ... think I'll do both as be great to have the diary on hand pre-game to get my mental frame of mind correctly.

I got a comment coming down the 16th which really gave me kick from a playing partner with a low HC ... that I should well be a sub- 5 HC As I have shown over the match I have all the skills to do it

POWER off the tee and fairway(2 shots to long 500+yard PAR5 greens hitting 9I off the back off the green while the other guys where using 7I-8I)

-great pitch/chipping game(dropping a tough uphill lie 7i 180-190 yard to 4 feet to Pin,

-solid putting stroke(so many ending up right beside or just past hole)

--But with 8x penalty shots and having to play out of or under trees ...It doesn't matter how good my good shots are if I keep doing the dumb rush pull shots off the tee ... or chunk chips that go only a few yards in front.(

If I can Iron out the dumb play and mental weakness(which is me thinking about stupid tee-off shot pre teeing off) I'll be really happy Golfer.

Also, I think I need a GPS ... so many great shots rolling off the back of the green

Good God.  Get GPS.  I have a free app (golfpad) on my phone.  It does not have any adverts, and the GPS is spot-on.

I do fear losing the ability to estimate distances though.  I use the old-fashioned methods and then check it against the software until I am comfortable I know what I am looking at.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Went out the other day with the kids is a nasty wet day. Actually did fairly good considering. Super deep wet rough stopped any momentum club had. Good drives with okish iron play.  I bet I struck the ball to my standards at least 60% of the time. Which 60 may seem like a small number, but it was a huge step up.

My Clubs are
My Ball Selection is..
Ive been golfing for a while.. around 10 years, not very much, but I can't see me spending tons on clubs the way I suck.

There is a lot of good advice here. You will see what work for you.

I now stay away from the range, the conditions do not simulate a course, but will chip and putt before a round. Getting the chipping in order helps me with my round. At home, I take on average 50 swings per day to keep my golf muscles working, stretch daily and eat healthy. I enjoy beer, but none when I am playing \ practicing \ learning.

I play practice rounds (best ball, 2 max, if needed) and note all the shots and which ones require more practice. I have a chart with my clubs, yardage and any key information on the club. As a result, I have gone through equipment changes for the last two years and now have a set I play consistent with.

Kudos. Awesome you got back into form so quickly. I did a similar 6 month break last year and I'm still recovering.

Yes, I did download free phone GOLF app GPS but was impossible to work with... be good to find one that does will look again soon ...Of course, when you're playing well 90% of the time I'm pretty good with my distances .. it's more so too really get my yardage spot on for my 8i-9i-PW-52 clubs

Stack System’s marketing materials inflate apparent swing speed and distance gains through selective presentment of data without qualification that purported gains are not the result, in whole or part, of its training protocol and products. * Yes, I'm joking about abbreviating both "SS." SuperSpeed wants: A judgment that the Stack System has disseminated false and/or misleading information in violation of federal and Illinois law. The deletion of all false advertising distributed and recall of all packaging containing false advertising and a requirement that Stack System issue notices (written or otherwise) to that effect to all current distributors and retailers of its products and all distributors with whom Stack System has done business in the past eighteen months. Written confirmation within 30 days of an injunction detailing the manner and form in which Stack System has complied. An order that Stack System disseminate corrective advertising informing consumers, the trade, and the public of Stack System’s unlawful conduct. 3X all profits received by Stack System as a result of its unlawful actions. 3X all damages sustained by SuperSpeed (as a result of Stack System’s actions) The cost of the action All reasonable attorney fees All other relief to which SuperSpeed are entitled and such other or additional relief as just and proper. Oy.
    • I'm not doing this for the hundred and twentieth time. Sorry in advance, but you get the massively abridged version. Those guys also benefited from the weaker/shallower fields. Also, Watson's career doesn't overlap with Jack's like many think it did. Tom is nearly a decade younger. Jack won only like four majors only after Tom won his first. And Tom won more British Opens than he did all three of the other majors combined, as it was his specialty (not Jack's). Arnie's career similarly doesn't overlap Jack's as much as many think.   Jack would also tell you Tiger was the better golfer.
    • Weaker depth of fields for sure. Some of the top level guys with Jack were pretty awesome. Tom Watson had the lead on the 72nd hole of the 2009 British Open, an event where Tiger missed the cut. Old Tom was almost 60 years old. Jack himself at age 58 finished Top 10 at The 1998 Masters and scored better than Tiger, who won The Masters by 12 shots just a year before that.   The success of both Tom & Jack in older age gives some hope that maybe Tiger can find the magic again at some point. He’s still trying to figure out how to build the stamina for 72 holes after the leg injury. I would love to see him jump on the leaderboard in the coming years. I know a lot of people have given up on him at this point, but that was also true from 2014 to 2017 with the back injuries. He had a hell of a resurgence in 2018 & 2019. Would be fun to see it again.
    • Perceptive rules question by caddie unlocks Tour pro’s ‘dead zone’ relief A perceptive rules question by Xander Schauffele’s caddie, Austin Kaiser, unlocked “dead zone” relief during the Wells Fargo Championship.
    • I ran across an interesting new clip, Johnson Wagner went into that spot with the Referee who allowed the relief.  Apparently there was a perfectly reasonable shot to be made, as Johnson clearly demonstrated, so relief from the TIO was perfectly appropriate.
