@Geraint Hughes,  I imagine Wales as the stereotype suggests, overcast and drizzle most of the time.   Please set the record straight, do you have sunshine or are you like Michigan, USA?

Welcome. @Geraint Hughes , half my heritage comes from Wales and England, the other half from Poland. My folks told me that they discovered, during a trip through Great Britain, that the Welsh phone directory was dominated by the names Smith, Jones, and Lewis. My surname is Lewis. Can you confirm or deny?

    • This was to post yesterday, guessing somehow I did not hit the submit button.  Anyway….Day 239 (28 Dec 24) - Weather was cooperative this afternoon, able to take grandson to the course for an afternoon 18.  Had a blast working with him - had a decent round - shot an 83 (7 pars (4 were up and down saves), 11 bogies, 31 putts total (no 3 putts or worse)). Best part was watching my 8 yr old grandson and the fluidity of his swing and the steadily growing confidence in his own game…
    • Definitely in the loves to win camp, but it’s more enjoying the win as I was raised to accept the fact your value is not the win but rather the grace exhibited in defeat.  So - makes the most of the wins and try to cultivate positives in the losses.  In the weekly men’s group event I’ve shared in the pot some, but more times than not I haven’t.  We are only talking a few bucks - so it’s not a life changing event.
    • I’d rather be someone who loves to win. That’s the fun side of competition—chasing the highs and enjoying the success. Hating to lose just feels like living in constant stress, and who needs that? That said, I’m probably more of a “hate to lose” kind of person. Losing gets under my skin way more than it should, and I’ve definitely dwelled on dumb stuff longer than I’d like to admit. It’s annoying, but hey, at least I’m aware of it.
    • Shot an 85 today, and man, it was all over the place. Started with a double bogey on the first hole because, of course, I sliced my drive into the rough. Got it together a bit with a couple of pars and even snuck in a birdie on the front nine, which felt great. The back nine? Total mixed bag. Crushed a drive on 12, felt like a pro, then immediately three-putted for bogey. Typical. Finished strong with a par on 18, though, so I guess I can’t complain too much. Just need to figure out my putting before the next round
    • I would pick Loves to Win. From my perspective, if one competes, one will lose and/or not finish 1st frequently. If I hated losing, I would stop competing. Winning is fun and often exciting. It never happens often enough for me but I enjoy competing and see success now and then.
