Anna Gunn is much hotter on Talking Bad than Breaking Bad.

Uh, yes. QFT.

BTW the best recap I've seen is here: http://boingboing.net/2013/09/30/felina.html .

If you want to see more Anna Gunn, she was in the later seasons of Deadwood, although Molly Parker, the female lead, was pretty easy on the eyes too.

The thing about Walt taking a bit from each person he killed is true and prevalent.

Walt also gets a Volvo, like Gus drove.

and to connect the Mike thing- Walt starts to drink his whiskey with ice after killing Mike.

I love this idea and how they did it. I just don't like the towel on the floor thing. Gus was thousands of miles away in a closed bathroom. How in the hell would Walt see/know that? All the other traits were seen with Walt's eyes

Anna Gunn is hot. (Watching Talking Bad right now)

I was thinking the same thing. She's definitely not in the show, but I was watching Talking Bad and she looked gorgeous!

I thought about that but when he ordered his drink in "Granite State", he ordered it neat.

And I feel like it's more of Walt becoming that person. He may not have seen Gus do it, but he became more and more like Gus after killing him, and that's just something someone like Gus would do.

That was a very good read, thanks, just some spelling errors. Given that it was posted noon the next day, that's pretty fast turnaround. After reading it, I'm more sympathetic to WW.

I thought it had already been discussed here but maybe I read it somewhere else.  Even then, this is probably obvious to a lot of you, but in case one person doesn't remember ... the scene where Jesse was daydreaming about woodworking was "written" several years ago.  From Season 3, Episode 9, "Kafkaesque," while Jesse is in group therapy ...

Group Leader : Jesse, last time, you seemed down about your job at the Laundromat. Let me ask something, if you had the chance to do anything you wanted, what would you do?

Jesse Pinkman : Make more green, man. A lot more.

Group Leader : Forget about money. Assume you have all you want.

Jesse Pinkman : I don't know. I guess I would make something.

Group Leader : Like what?

Jesse Pinkman : I don't know if it even matters, but... work with my hands, I guess.

Group Leader : Building things, like carpentry or bricklaying or something?

Jesse Pinkman : I took this vo-tech class in high school, woodworking. I took a lot of vo-tech classes, because it was just big jerk-off, but this one time I had this teacher by the name of... Mr... Mr. Pike. I guess he was like a Marine or something before he got old. He was hard hearing. My project for his class was to make this wooden box. You know, like a small, just like a... like a box, you know, to put stuff in. So I wanted to get the thing done as fast as possible. I figured I could cut classes for the rest of the semester and he couldn't flunk me as long as I, you know, made the thing. So I finished it in a couple days. And it looked pretty lame, but it worked. You know, for putting in or whatnot. So when I showed it to Mr. Pike for my grade, he looked at it and said: "Is that the best you can do?" At first I thought to myself "Hell yeah, bitch. Now give me a D and shut up so I can go blaze one with my boys." I don't know. Maybe it was the way he said it, but... it was like he wasn't exactly saying it sucked. He was just asking me honestly, "Is that all you got?" And for some reason, I thought to myself: "Yeah, man, I can do better." So I started from scratch. I made another, then another. And by the end of the semester, by like box number five, I had built this thing. You should have seen it. It was insane. I mean, I built it out of Peruvian walnut with inlaid zebrawood. It was fitted with pegas, no screws. I sanded it for days, until it was smooth as glass. Then I rubbed all the wood with tung oil so it was rich and dark. It even smelled good. You know, you put nose in it and breathed in, it was... it was perfect.

Group Leader : What happened to the box?

Jesse Pinkman : I... I gave it to my mom.

Group Leader : Nice. You know what I'm gonna say, don't you? It's never too late. They have art co-ops that offer classes, adult extension program at the University.

Jesse Pinkman : You know, I didn't give the box to my mom. I traded it for an ounce of weed.

I made the connection right when the scene came up, but only because Kafkaesque is one of my favorite episodes and I'd re-watched that scene a few times.

Another fun tidbit ...  When they gave Walt the M60 at the opening of Season 5, they (the writers) had no idea it was going to be used to kill a gang of neo-nazis.  They didn't even know that there would be neo-nazis.

Quote:

It was a classic case of the “Breaking Bad” writers writing themselves into a corner and trying to find a way out. They created Uncle Jack’s gang in part because they needed villains worthy of a massacre, Gilligan said.

“We went through every possibility in the book,” he said. “You’re planting a flag at that point… We were saying you know what? An M60 machine gun, Rambo’s machine gun, something cool has to happen with that. We’ll figure it out later.”

I believe this is true: Walt never killed a "good guy" (directly - obviously his actions got Hank and Gomez killed, and he DID call them off).

And those who think Jesse was only "bad" for killing Todd (which is easily justified) often seem to forget that he killed Gale.

Right, but unlike Walt...Jesse had no choice. It was either that, or he and Walt would have been killed. Not only that, but he was genuinely upset at having to do it.

He still did it. And Gale wasn't the one that was going to kill him, so it wasn't even self defense.

What about Jane? All he had to do was turn her around and she wouldn't have choked.

She choked on her own vomit. She was dead when he woke up, no?

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
