No, but considering you’re getting what a $20k unit can give you for $3k, it’s an absolute steal.

I think it is. It blows the doors off the Full Swing Kit, too.

I wouldn't say I'm great at reading the numbers off a launch monitor, but I do feel like the path, face, HSP, VSP, low point, dynamic loft numbers are a big deal. I dunno what curve is and the difference between that and shot shape nor do I know what the acceleration and speed profiles are.

I think curve might be the amount of curve, like "21 yards" or something.

The livestream also mentioned official recommended external battery packs because if you get one that provides too much juice, you can fry the M+'s chips. Also that they anticipated limited supplies and bought extra and have 3K M+ in inventory.

The Mevo+ lasts a few hours now. But yeah, those will be handy for some.

I wanted to point out that they say a few times in the video that for current customers, they expect to be able to do something special for the upgrade to the Pro Package. I suspect it'll cost a bit less and be available slightly before the PGA Show.

So, it may be wise to get your purchases in now… https://bit.ly/3vRSgot. Use the code "FALLEB" if you want to save 10% for another few days (this may end around November 7…).

You can use the link in the sidebar to order your Mevo+. Get it soon and save 10% (or, for a few days, use the link in the announcement at the top of the site).

Can we get enough data to map out our shot zones with the MEVO+ even without the Pro package?

Oh, yeah. Definitely.

I'll admit to being kinda surprised by this question. It makes me wonder if we've got some misunderstanding of what the Mevo+ is capable of.

In short, any launch monitor that has "sim" capabilities is capable of charting your Shot Zones because playing sim golf means knowing where the golf ball goes. To know where the ball goes you have to know, at a minimum (for realistic stuff):

  • Ball speed
  • Horizontal and vertical launch
  • Spin (RPM and axis)
  • Environmental stuff like surface firmness, altitude, temperature, wind, etc.

The Mevo (no +) will do the ball speed, vertical launch, and RPMs. So it can fairly accurately tell you distance, but because you don't line up, it has no real concept of where you started the ball left or right.

The Mevo+ does all of the above and then some (AoA, vertical landing angle, spin axis, spin loft, etc.).

The addition of club data from the Pro Package doesn't change that the Mevo+ already did just about everything it could do to track the ball. Almost none (italics) of the additions to the Pro Package are ball related:

  • Club path
  • Face to path/target
  • H and V swing planes
  • Low point
  • Dynamic loft
  • Vertical descent angle
  • Curve
  • Speed and acceleration profiles

Even those two italics are just exposed, they were already (internally) measured/calculated without the Pro Package.

Of course, this assumes you hit the ball somewhat like you do in your hitting area. Which is entirely possible if you "picture" hitting a shot toward a target and just make a swing. Your general shots should be the same.

Any guesses at what the discount will be for existing owners?

I don't even know if there will be a discount. I'm reading between the lines re: this part: "they say a few times in the video that for current customers, they expect to be able to do something special for the upgrade to the Pro Package."

I’m not sure which one you watched, I’m guessing they were all the same stream but on different platforms. I watched the replay on Crowdcast because live was painful with it cutting out. The first question they answered was about a discount, which they said the were looking into it, they never said yes for sure. But I’m hoping they do, and I’m hoping for at least a $200 discount.

I ordered one today. Not sure how much use I’ll get out of it in the winter, but I’m curious to see how well it does in limited flight on my net. Might have to go to the driving range more often.

I’m definitely getting the pro package when that releases. Will the club data be measured? If so, that might still work for me at home.

    • C’mon man! You were the President of the Taylor Gooch fan club! You got that tatoo!😜 Agree, 54 hole snooze fest.
    • True, but even when they decide to focus on a shot, it can still take 20-30 seconds for the player to execute. The broadcast likes to include the player picking a club and setting up. If they take too long, sometimes they cut away, sometimes they don’t. I’m not saying I prefer it.  Personally, I would love to see more shots, less putting.
    • Apart from what  OP has just repeated, the clue is in the term temporary water,  the revised name for what used to be called casual water.   As it is  a temporary condition, you could not designate an area as temporary water all the time. And to push that thought further, if it were water all the time it wouldn't be temporary but by definition a penalty area. It wouldn't be surprising if on occasion parts of this mushy area do meet the criteria to be temporary water (I get the notion that you get occasional showers in Seattle) but it could be very difficult to know or have virtual certainty that a lost ball was in such a patch.
    • Your only hope is to react quickly enough and  stop your downswing or deliberately miss the ball.
    • Interesting. Out of curiosity, I googled the past 20 winner of the PGA's Match Play tournament. My assumption was that most of the winners were mid-range to lower level guys. But it appears that most of the winners were "top 10" types. Perhaps match play does favor higher level players.  With that said, the assertion that match player is easier as a blanket statement is pretty absurd on it's face. In any 128 player field, the odds of a given player winning are 1 - X. X being the likelihood that any of the other 127 players will win. The fact that match-play is easier for certain types of golfer makes it mathematically necessary that it is harder for other types of golfers.
