Iacas is confident, have you ever played a hole blindfolded in this fashion ?  or putted ?  Tell us about it.

I think you're drastically over-stating the importance of seeing a putt roll out.

I can usually putt with my eyes closed and tell you to within about a foot where a ball will finish up. And Rory might actually putt better if he can line up, put the blindfold on magically, and stroke the shorter putts.

I fully agree. If he can imagine the shot he is hitting he might even be better at shots he "should make". Taking the visual out might be closer to 100% commitment to a shot. Let's face it his full swing and putting stokes are technically sound, if he pulls 3' putt is is likely because he is trying to make the physical match is visual.

You asked if he’s ‘only blind during the shot.’  When else would he be able to be blind and not have assistance? That’s my point.

I still don't know why you're hung up on him not having assistance. If he's going to play an entire round blindfolded I fully expect him to have assistance.

You implied a devaluation of what he was doing as he was blinded ‘only during the shot.’

Because being able to see once you've committed to a shot isn't that important, especially for a tour pro who has their mechanics baked in through muscle memory. That's why once in a while they'll come out with an article talking about practicing with their eyes closed. You can't see impact and you feel the clubhead in your swing. Seeing is not that important by that point.

It's a different challenge to play completely blind, have to feel out where the ball is relative to your stance, make strategic decisions based only on verbal cues from a caddie, etc.
