OT: What I hate about Golf

What i can't stand about golf is this---if you are rich you can buy a game. Im 21 year old college student who caddys at Oakmont I have to work just to play Mondays on the course because it is hard to afford a membership anywhere. I still play the local courses occasionally and carry a 2 handicap. I just hate seeing all of these kids never working and being handed the game of golf. I bought all of my clubs and ive worked on grounds crews just to play the course on occasions. People like Peter Uihlein make me soo mad because they can be good because of money and access to academies and stuff like that. I think the AJGA should help finance aspiring junior golfers better because i know a lot of my friends who are too poor to afford entering all of these tournaments like my friend who shot 72 from the back tees at oakmont twice and has played in the state amateur..I would like people like that to get more opportunities.

I know life is unfair at times, but don't you realise that i am sure most people on this forum firstly would love to work at Oakmont and therefore have the opportunity to play it on occassions, i would kill to play it once, let alone on occassions. Secondly most people on this forum would love to have a handicap of two, although i do appreciate that striving to be better is part and parcel of becoming a very good golfer!

I had to pay well over £100 ($200) to play at the Brabazon Course at the Belfry, i have only been once in my life, i relished every second though!

I think you a luckier than you realise!

I worked at a club before but it is just a step above the muni level. I didn't see the kind of wealth that you are seeing, but living in South Florida, you see some money when everyone from all over the world comes in the winter just to play for the season (whether its golf or polo).

Hopefully this helps you to dig deep and to work hard because once you realize that life is not fair, you can then overcome it. It was just a fluke that they where born into a life of fortune as they could have been born in Iraq or Africa. Now that is unfair. Take the opportunities that are in front of you and develop your passion, it will pay off and you will feel better when it does because you will have earned it. If you get a lucky break along the way then remember that and make sure that you do the same for others.

And yes, seeing a sixteen year old in a new 911 can piss me off.

Get over it. Those players weren't "handed anything" - they still have to work at it. You don't magically become the top-rated junior golfer in the world by going to academies.

Ill say this. In the summer of 1997, I caddied at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Long Island. It is top 10 on nicest tracks in America. I worked my ass off. There were days where I sat there all day long and didnt get out to make any money. In saying that, it was one of the best summers of my life. I got to play that course every Monday, and days that I didnt get out and waited and waited we would play putting games all day long. I met some great guys that summer, guys I wish I still kept in touch with. I saw the same stuff that you were seeing with people getting handed everything, but realized that people would have killed to be in the position that I was in.

What I hate about golf? Well I'm not rich by any means and in the end of the month when I receive my CREDIT CARD BILLS, hence plural, I hate it!!!

From paying the course fees, buying equipments, and so on. I can't afford it but I'll make a way.

Trust me guys, there are plenty of people that are less fortunate than we are. The way I see it, Hell some of them can't have a credit card due to bad credits.

I even caddied for my friend that is a better player than me. It gives me the opportunity to learn while enjoying the walk at a beautiful course. I'll caddie for free if Tiger or Ernie or Phil would let me carry their bag. Hell I even carry their water bottle if they want me to

just remember...you play at a course that some of us (including myself) can only dream about playing at...you should consider yourself lucky. not to mention the 2 handicap...just keep workin at it bc you never know what life brings.

I think you might be underestimating the game that all of those players have. Regardless of hte money that their parents might have, they work their butt off to be where they are. IMHo, you don't have a legitimate reason to hate Peter Uihlein just because he and his family are wealthy. I can tell you that he is a great kid and that he has an extremely hard work ethic. I understand and sympathize with the fact that he has had a much better opportunity to constantly play, practice, and compete. However, you shouldn't hate him because of that.

How many times have we seen kids become lazy and not do anything when presented with these opportunities? Instead, they wait for the windfall while not being productive.

Peter is someone you should emulate. Instead of sitting back and waiting for it to happen, he's making the most out of his opportunities.

I played badminton in college. It is not an easy sport. The shuttlecock can travel 206Mph.

I think there is nothing wrong with having hardworking parents who are able to provide for you. Like iacas said, he did 'buy' his game, he worked for it(albeit with some advantages.) However, after seeing the first video you posted, the kid is way to cocky. needs cut out the whole 'I have a better swing than most people on tour' crap.
