..so I hope I explain or say this correctly.  Here goes.

In baseball if you’ve ever played the game or even watched a no-hitter in progress you will notice that as the game gets to the 6th inning the pitcher has a no hitter.  Players start to distance themselves from him. Then the 7th inning. He’s sitting alone on the bench, no one is talking to him except maybe the catcher. The game goes on and for arguments sake he pitches the no hitter.

So now we get to your round. You are making pars one after another. Maybe it’s just your day.  Your golf buddies are saying great par, good save, things like that.  You make the turn your even par!  You start the back with a birdie, the next 3 holes you make some pars and a bogey your back to even.  Your friends start to notice your playing well, best in a long time.  The chatter begins to subside.  The next 4 holes you par each one.  Last hole.....your hitting last.  One of your buddies decides to say “one hole left, hit it straight” right as your standing over the ball.  You back off and reset, you pull it right into the junk.  You scramble to make a bogey!

What do you say on the 18th hole when it’s over when everyone is saying good round?

I'm not sure with whom you are playing. But this does not happen with the guys I play with.

As Chet said, this does not compute.

That’s good, some guys sometimes don’t see or are not aware that you are playing perhaps the round of your life.  About 5 years ago I shot my best round ever!  A 4 under 68.  My friends didn’t say a peep until the last hole was played. My golf buddy back then said the group knew I was playing under par so they kept their thoughts to themselves.

Today I had that type of round going on #2 today, started out with 9 straight pars, was putting for Eagle on the Par 5 10th.  Know I’m -1 through 10. Then an errant shot crept in and I’m back to even.  Streak started again but a missed fairway on 18 resulted in a bogey.
Quietest round I’ve played in a while. Or I just was so focused I couldn’t hear a thing.

I don't think that's what CHET was saying.

And I played baseball, and never wanted people to stay away from me when I was pitching a no-hitter. Just keep doing the same thing(s).

Most of the guys I play with regularly would give me ADDITIONAL ribbing if they knew I was playing the round of my life.

Yeah, I was saying that if the guys I normally played with even noticed that I was playing the round of my life, I'd likely get additional chatter. But to be fair, it's not likely they would notice I'm playing the round of my life. So, in all likelihood they'd give me the standard amount of chit chat.

Awesome, I'm not sure I've earned it, but what the hell. I always wanted a nickname. When your name is Chester you don't usually get a nickname.

All ball players do is NOT mention the fact that the pitcher has a no hitter going, as it is considered bad luck. Baseball players are the most superstitious folks on the planet!

We played Windmill Lakes last week and my buddy had made about a half mile of putts, which is saying something on those greens! He slid another long one right on the edge of hole and yelled, "Jesus God! I can't make a putt today!" I laughed and said, "Who hell do you think you're kidding?!"

Golfers may be superstitious, but they are also habitual needlers.

    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
