I use GolfLogix free to see how far the pin is.

I'd like to be able to enter each shot and club so I can track distance hit with each club, and other stuff.

Is there a popular golf app like this?

My hands are no longer steady enough for my range finder, so I use 18Birdies. The free version allows you to easily track the most important stats. If you are serious about golf, the pay version is excellent. I especially like the apps ability to determine how far I *actually* hit every club in the bag.

I have really been liking the Taylormade myRoundPro app, especially since there is an app for my Samsung watch. Tracks clubs and suggests based on previous distance hit. Tracks strokes gained compared to pro, scratch, 5, 10, 15, and 20 handicaps. Gives front, middle, and back of green distances, and has pin drop on the phone. I used the phone app only for a couple of rounds and it was pretty good, aside from having to play with my phone in my pocket. Wouldn't be a problem if you were riding.

Is myRoundPro free?  I want to do this:

1) Look up yardage

2) Enter club

After I hit, and do the same thing on the next shot,

it will have calculated how long I hit the last club.

The Game Golf app does all this for free.  Its what I use.

I've used the Golf Pad app for this on iOS.  It lets you enter clubs and then uses the data to suggest clubs as you play.  Costs $20 per year subscription.  I mostly like it as it works with my Pebble watch.  Also works with Apple watch.

Years ago I used Golfshot.  I liked it quite a bit then. Now that I'm playing again, I defaulted to it but looked to see what else is available now. I tried 18birdies yesterday and it's also good. A little busy in the menus if you're just interested in scoring a round of golf, but it's good.

The one issue I had with it was getting quick GPS updates as I walked up to the tee box from the cart. It seemed to stick at the cart instead of updating where I was as I neared the tee box. I looked all over for a setting to be more aggressive on GPS updates, but I found none.

I used this today.  It took a little getting used to.  At first, to count putts, I had to keep repeating "+", select putter, over and over, for each putt.

That seemed idiotic.  I wish I could just type the number of putts.   I did find the "Add Putt" feature, after you select the putter once.

I clicked VIEW to see the yardage before selecting a club..

I hate how you can't easily edit the scorecard.

Not the best interface, but it's a step up from Golf Logix since it can track each club length.

Thanks.

The nice thing about Game Golf is the ability to adjust the round on your computer after you finish.   Some times I tag the shot a couple times because I wasn't sure if I did it the first time.   Easy to correct on your computer.

What do you mean "tag" a shot?

I used Game Golf again today.

I got used to the interface and it was fine.

I only wish I could just enter the number of putts.

In order to capture yardage of my approach iron, I go to my ball on green and select putter.

But, after that, the phone stays in the pocket.   After I putt out, I then drag "add putt" a few times to end the hole.

I have the Game Golf tags on each club.   I don't use my phone at all.   I touch the club to the Game Golf device on my belt and it notes my location.   I don't use the app for distance, I have a range finder.   Once I get home, I hook the device to my PC and it uploads the round where I can make adjustments to the round, like first putt distance or delete a double tagged shot.

I do the exact same thing.

And then after the round, ill go on a PC and edit the added putts and place the pin in the correct position to the best of my recollection.  Editing the round afterwards is an important part of the process to me.  Reviewing every single shot of the round helps to reinforce each shot and creates a better understanding of the underlying data for the analysis and statistics.  And then after the round is edited, I always go to insights and at a minimum take a look at strokes gained for that round against different benchmarks.

It truly is a great thing to have all that data about your golf game.  Even four or five rounds is enough to get some real insight into how you actually play.

I also have the tags on my clubs, but just prefer to enter each shot on my phone.  I already used it for distances, so it was easy to just also tag the shot there.  Didn't like worrying during the round whether i missed a tag or double tagged something.  It's all right there.

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
