A lot of light? What's that got to do with anything?

My divot tool is magnetic… where the ball marker attaches.

So for me pairing at night was the problem, once I did it in daylight I had no problems at all. I'm guessing the sensor needs the light or something, this is from the support people at game golf, "We recommend daylights as some users may pair at night with artificial light which is not sufficient."

That doesn't make any sense, really. It's paired via Bluetooth.

I was thinking that perhaps it had to have a GPS lock before it could pair (which would be stupid IMO), but there's no way this should require "daylight" to pair.

Okay:

1. I tried pairing just now in my office. I closed the curtains, I shut off my overhead light. It paired in a matter of seconds, through the app. I hit "Play Golf" and chose to pair the new device.

2. My ball mark repair tool is magnetic.

Only thing I can think of it is it has something to do with what the sensor does to pair. Even in the video they sent out last week to explain how to set it up, the guy in it made a point, to point out he was next to the window. I tried for about an hour pairing it the night before and nothing I did worked. Yesterday I didn't do any updates and did it by my screen door, and it took about 5 mins to setup. GPS doesn't make any sense because that would mean each sensor has it's own GPS, because you don't even pair the medallion till all the sensors are paired.

I had the same issue with the light. Tried to pair mine in the kitchen, didn't work. Had to go in my living room turn all the lights on and open the blinds and then it worked fine.

Go figure.

Huh? I'm talking about pairing the medallion. I did that first, and am holding off on setting up my golf bag because I don't think I'm actually going to use this thing.

Maybe the actual belt units work in sunlight because when they're in the bag (dark) they're turned off. When you take a club out of the bag it is exposed to sunlight.

Arccos works by having a little gyroscope or something that senses when the club is upright versus upside down, I think.

Yep mine is the same way, I was just expecting it to be stronger.

Oh no, I was talking about pairing the tags. Once you do that it pairs the medallion, while pairing the tags the lights on the medallion for me, were still the night rider disco lights. Once done the lights changed.

Again the tags must be light sensitive instead of positionally sensitive like the Arccos tags.

I need to replace my GameGolf Live because the clip broke and it does not charge reliably.

Tagging the club doesn't bother me, but all else equal, I'd prefer not to tag.  But without some sort of confirmation that the tag worked, I don't think I'd trust it.

I don't think GameGolf has made as good use of the data as they should, which is really disappointing.  I thought about trying Arccos, but I don't want to pay the subscription.

I'll probably just buy Live again.

That's the way I'd go.

Their data use and everything is the single biggest problem I have with them right now.

Hmm...I guess I was looking at the "smart grips" on their product page, which requires a $99 annual subscription.

I may look into switching in that case.  I'd hate to lose all my data, though.

interesting.  no subscription if you just buy the sensors ($250).   The grips are $150, but with $99 subscription.

seems strange that they have 2 different pricing models.

Thanks!

It won't solve my charging issue but I might as well do this to keep the unit as a backup.  When I emailed customer support about the charging, they just offered me the discount on Game Golf Pro that they offered to basically everyone.  But the Live is cheap enough that I'll probably just replace it.

I just called Arccos.  (their customer service is great, by the way.).

Honest answer here is that Arccos is moving to a subscription based model, but they don't want that change to affect legacy users that already have the product.

So, new products that came out after the Gen 2 sensors will be cheaper, but with $99/year subscription.   (hence the grip with sensors costing $150, while the sensors alone cost $250).   And, eventually, when they do come out with Gen 3 sensors, those with also be cheaper but with yearly subscription.

So, for now, you're kind of in an in-between stage.  $250 for the screw in sensors, but you'll never pay subscription.   or, $150 for grips.

He did confirm that they are committed to never charging subscription for Gen2 sensors, so as to not negatively affect us legacy users.

That would be a dealbreaker for me.

  • 1 month later...

Hi everyone!

I just read this thread and had to register to this forum. Today I returned my GG Pro Device and hopefully will get my money back soon. (27 days since I got the device via mail). I gave it another try today.

I've written a couple of mails to the C/S of GG and first I have to say that they've been always nice and responded quickly. Only the request to get a return-label was'nt answered that quick. But no bashing to the C/S at all.

Why did I return my device?

- many shots have not been tracked (randomly on the FWY, but nearly every tee-shot was NOT tracked)
- 3 tags could not be paired or have been paired once and were not able to re-pair after I detected the problems with the shot-tracking. (C/S would have sent me new tags - a nice move)
- Using the app (Android Pixel 3) forced me to confirm the putts -> but it is not apparent which hole i am confirming the putts which led to more in-round-editing
- often I found stats like 600m drives off the tee-box after adding tee-shot manually via the app. Although all the other shots were tracked correctly, the app drew a line from the manually added tee-shot to the last putt on the green -> had to edit after the round (and still the 600m drive was in the stats)
- sometimes shots have been tracked back to the tee (teebox->green->teebox->fairway)
- two tags were at a battery level of <30% (the app has been updated now so you can't see the battery level anymore now)
- I had a pre-order/first-to-order E-Mail like all of you -> bought it for 299€ -> installed the app -> first thing I saw in the app was an offer to buy the Pro Device for 269€

To summarize:
I had to think about the tracking all the time -> which I was supposed not to do after buying the GG Pro device. I understand that there is some machine-learning built-in but I played 5 rounds (with mobile on/off, Medaillon on belt, outside clipped to my jacket. tried to edit in-round) and there was NO improvement at all. So I found myself editing the round on my computer from remembering the shots (which is no problem to me at all but I could do this without any device). btw: i updated the firmware and the app regularly. Thinking about whether the 300€-device will track the next shot or not is a big downer on the course at every single shot. I'd rather would use the GG Classic again and know the shot will be tracked.

To me, though I am still a fan of GG, the Pro-Device has very high ambitions that can't be reached. The delay between announcing the device to bringing it to the market makes sense to me now-> in my opinion it still should not have been released at this point.

Hope, your guys playing experiens vary and you have fun with it. Unfortunately i have'nt - i wish I had, really - and if in the future GG Pro will really improve and all of you guys are happy with it, i would buy it again and everything I said above would have been only my fault. :-)

p.s.: sorry for my bad English. I've tried my best :-)
