We are all Indifferent at some level. I do agree though that self-absorption has gotten worse.

I find it an acquired trait and as a gross generalization - denser the population, less the people care. As far as get-off-my-lawn suburban dicks - they usually are the ones that have migrated from a rat-race and recently/finally come into some 'peace', making them determined to not let it get robbed. 😄

I agree with @Bucki1968, kids are kids. If there is enough in their seed, nature or nurture, they will eventually come into it. With my pre-teen and teen, we just keep ploughing and hope for the best.  It's the indifference of grown ups that does the most damage anyway. But hey there's only so much I can care about before I need to be cared for.. 😊

I feel like I just took Philosophy 101 all over again...

Kids (mine's 22) do not want you to figure them out.

Ok, I was just thinking the same thing. More people exist in the world every day

Social Media and the Internet allows us to see what is happening the next city over. So, maybe previously we were undervaluing the number of "not my problem" people. That doesn't mean they didn't exist.

I think Joe Rogan put it, "Kids are assholes". I would put it, kids are assholes till they reach the age of 30 😛 Heck, the brain doesn't stop developing till around the age of 25. For me, I felt like over the past 5 years I've started to piece together a lot of things with regards to my world view.

If you are under the age of 30, went to college, then maybe I can understand still being green about things.
