So I heard some interesting comments the other day about Tiger's loss at Doral. Whether they are fictional or not I have no idea so don't kill the messenger.

A couple analysts were thinking that Tiger didn't win at Doral on purpose. I don't want to say that he threw it, but I don't think he had his head in it as much as he usually does. The cameramen were causing trouble as they always do. I have seen him stop in the middle of a backswing because the shutters were terribly loud, fast and annoying.

Secondly, some thought he wanted to take some pressure off of himself for Augusta. Majors are the only things that matter to him at this point so why make it more difficult when by having to hear about streaks for days on end?

Your thoughts?

Honestly, I don't think that Tiger would ever lose on purpose. Tiger demonstrates his winning mentality every time he steps on the course during a tournament and "pressure" of streaks or anything else wouldn't be the cause of him changing his mentality. His father raised him that way and that's the way he is.
I think that every golfer has good and bad days and that every player on the PGA tour is still human. Humans aren't perfect, and yes.. believe it or not.. Tiger is still human.
When Tiger is playing in a professional tournament I can guarentee that other tournaments are not the first thing on his mind. He focuses on what he has to do in the present and he deals with it accordingly.
These couple of "analysts" are just ordinary people who happen to talk about golf while other people listen, no different than anyone else who is the host of a talk show or anything similar. Their opinions are no better than yours or mine, so who really cares about what other people "think"... it's all just opinion.

I heard "Hawk" say that on the golf channel on the 19th hole show. It is a bunch of hooey. Tiger does not have it in himself to throw a tournament. Genetically I dont think it is possible. lol!

Silly notions like this are put forth by people who have convinced themselves that Tiger is superhuman and that the rest of the players on the tour are somehow inferior. These "analysts" can't find it in themselves to accept the fact that anyone on the PGA tour is capable of beating Tiger on a given day. The simple fact is his game was a little off and he lost. It's golf. Even Tiger can't win 'em all.

HAHAHAHA this reminds me of all the fans saying Oscar de la Hoya last to Mayweather on purpose just to get money and he didn't care about losing his belt...... No he did not lose on purpose, he lost because he was not the best in the field (not even 4th best). Sorry, nothing more.

Tiger was trying to win..He is the tour's best grinder...He didnt give up..the kid thrives under pressure and he almost pulled it out Sunday after that 72 Sunday...credit to Eldrick

John Hawkins said it removed some pressure, not that Tiger "lost on purpose" TO REMOVE the pressure.

He just said that, having lost, there's a bit less pressure now.

Steve should have made that cameraman wear his ass as a hat. Digital SLRs are the ones that make the clicking. You can buy quite nice digital cameras that aren't SLRs.

Get a nice non-SLR and go stealth mode.

The idea of Tiger wanting to remove pressure IS the most ridiculous. Tiger knows that pressure makes him sharper-- Heck I think he has to work HARDER when there isn't pressure.

Who are these "analysts"? I'll bet you can't name them. A preposterous and ridiculous suggestion.

Apparently you haven't seen the new show Tiger 360. It's on every Monday night and focuses mainly on Tiger's performance. Only golfer I've ever seen who has an hour long show dedicated solely to them. Also, someone mentioned it on the 19th hole, as was said. So before you go trying to blast someone, do some research. A NON-preposterous and ridiculous suggestion.

    • Some great stories here. I'm more inclined to remember good wedge or iron shots than putts. Here's a few that stand out in recent memory.  #17 at Elizabeth Manor (my home course): Last year at Schaubach Cup. It is the toughest par 4 on the course. Long, uphill, OB on both sides, a large bunker guarding majority of front, another lining the right and a steep fall off on the back. Par is always a great score here. Needed a two putt to go in to flight playoffs. Good drive and a decent 7 iron put me on the green but left a long meandering 45 feet carrom putt with green rolled out to 12 on stimp. All but guaranteed a 3 putt for anyone who knows my poor distance control. This one felt good right from the second I walked up. Saw the six-ish break, and executed almost perfect speed and line for the best tap-in I've ever had. We made the playoffs and lost on the second hole eventually but damn that putt felt good! #14 at EM:  North-South (Ryder cup knock off with our sister course Williamsburg GC). This was one of those 30 footers where you putt up a ridge and let it fall off. Higher you hit, more it breaks. Anyway, read both line and speed perfectly aaaannndd executed to drop it from the side door. Demoralized the opponents and soon after shut the door on them the next hole. They had a chance until then. I had felt like I had turned the corner on match play prowess earlier last year.  #17 Stoneliegh, Round Hill This one was with @DaveP043. A 25 footer from a high shelf to a low shelf, where the putt required to be placed just at the right pace up to the precipice of the upper shelf for it takes the slope to anywhere close to the hole. Had been putting decent all day on fairly difficult greens. Dave gave me a good line and spot to nudge it up to. I took and executed for a birdie! Made it even sweeter since I had just birdied #16. #5 at the 6-hole Par-3 course at Belmont, Richmond: Was having a bit of fun with @iacas. Had a match going with him for a soda. Had to make par from 5 feet to tie him going into the 6th and final hole. The greens had heavy aeration holes so it wasn't exactly a skill test. Anyway, I pushed a nervy stroke for the ball to rim out half an inch away from the hole. On most normal the ball stays out, but lo and behold the large aeration hole cut on the edge of the hole comes to my aid and tilts the ball back in the hole!  I don't know what was more satisfying, the putt or the look of annoyance/disgust on @iacas's face at the ensuing run off celebratory dance. 😂. He managed to save face by beating me by a stroke on the last hole but man that was a fun day!
    • Its not. They are just giving an example in a situation say if cant reach it. Example, You have 230 to the center of the green, you cant hit a club you have that far, so you whip out a 3/5 wood or whatever, but you have to hit it soft because there is trouble in front of the green, a bunker or water. A full swing would land you in the trouble. You want to lay up as close to the green as you can. So you aren't hitting a full shot with that club so for distance tracking you can make that shot a provisional and it wont affect the distance stats.
