One I sadly use regularly: "Snatched defeat from the jaws of victory". I say it after you are in position to score and f@#k it up royally.

"My ball is on top of a rock in the hazard, do I get some sort of relief?"

Do we really need the translations of the obvious? Gawd.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Just a little FYI..... if you say something "all the time", you also have your regular playing partners rolling their eyes and

I like the Hitler (bunker to bunker)

And The Sex with your sister.. (You scored, but you know you shouldn't have!)

I offen ask my father-in-law when he hits a short one "Does your husband play too?"

On my tombstone: "If this is the worst thing that ever happens to me, I'm doing just fine!"

I told one of my partners yesterday (after hitting a really FAT shot) that the S on that particular wedge does not mean shovel!

When someone blurts out a swear word...

"That's a very technical golf term"

Also, when someone leaves a putt short

"Want me to hold your purse next time?"

2013 Goal:

Single digit handicap

When we're playing with someone who's taking their game way too seriously for no reason, since they can't play. After they've skied a drive or laid the sod over a short chip, but before they can unleash their usual string of profanities: With a straight face......."Golf shot", then turn away. Everyone usually laughs hard enough that dude lightens up a little (after telling me to go f*** myself, of course).

When i smash a long straight one, at the very edge of my ability, i blurt out with no hesitation  MASHED POTATOES.  Makes the long walk so sweet.

This weekend we got stuck behind a foursome who obviously didn't know what they were doing, and an old couple who decided to walk the first nine holes.

My father-in-law said repeatedly "I wish I had brought my taxes." (Because he had so much time between shots he could have gotten them done.)

On my tombstone: "If this is the worst thing that ever happens to me, I'm doing just fine!"

    • I’d go with the Titleist if you liked the look of the blades but were suffering with distance. They should be a little more forgiving than a full blade and still retain some workability. Also remember to consider the shafts each have as this will be a big contributor to how they feel. Clemsonfan is right though… get fit or spend a bit of time on a launch monitor 🤙
    • Day 28: 2026.01.30 Managed to make time for a few swings out back today. Need a proper bit of range time this weekend.
    • Day 30, 1/30.  Six minutes this morning hitting a few more range balls, indoors, off a mat, into the net.  Did this before leaving the house.

    • Hi All my New Year’s resolution was to start playing golf again. I’ve caught the bug and am really enjoying hitting balls at a couple of my local ranges.looking forward to getting back out on courses in the spring. Based in the UK and 38 years old, I’ve been playing since I was a kid. Best handicap I’ve held is 2 in my mid 20s. Over the past 10 years I’ve played once or twice a year, sometimes with friends or for work. Could shoot 4-5 over, but just as easily shoot 15-20 over. I’ve moved to South Wales and am very lucky to be near some world class links courses, which gives me even more motivation to get playing again! I will start looking for a local coach in my area when I have more time to invest, but I recalled scouring this forum a few years ago and finding some good tips and advice so wanted to give it a try to see if there were any glaring issues I could fix in the meantime!  A few swings below… one from 1st week Jan and one from today. I have fixed my P1 takeaway to my liking and am now working on what I see as pretty severe early extension & hip thrust. Also terrible hip rotation. I’d like confirmation that this is indeed a problem and and suggestions on a few good drills. Thanks for reading 🙂 I've been Playing Golf for: 30+ years My current handicap index or average score is: 10ish over My typical ball flight is: mid The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: push right with irons, hooks and push with driver!  Videos:
