Anyone else paying attention?  I love watching team events in golf.  Americans looked rough early but making a little comeback.  Excited for Ryder cup soon, I’ll be there on the Friday and this is a fun watch to get in the team spirit.

I was at my college event yesterday, but watched last night before bed. I'm out all day today but recording everything. I plan to watch singles all day tomorrow.

What does everyone think of the rules "controversy" from yesterday?

A rules incident benefited the Americans in afternoon fourballs, but it was a situation that neither team wish had happened.

I didn’t care much for Korda making that move. The ball was not ‘hanging over the lip.’ It clearly had come to a stop. Just play golf. That sort of stuff taints the match.

Just a gut feeling, but I feel Korda's opponent might have picked up the ball before it could have fallen in the hole.  Best thing here would have been for everyone to have waited out the 10 seconds.  What's it hurt?  I counted 8 seconds from when the ball lodged on the lip.  I wish we could have seen a close up of the ball next to the cup.  I'd like to have heard the opponent's reasoning for picking up the ball shy of 10 seconds.

Sagstrom essentially picked up a ball in play.  I think Korda should have been allowed to replace her ball.  😉😁😄😎 (3/4's over the hole and down-grain)

Did you read the article? Korda had nothing to do with the decision.

Quote

According to Korda and Ewing, the two were approached while walking off the 13th green by on-course rules official Missy Jones, who told them the rules officials monitoring the telecast were reviewing the matter. And upon further review, multiple rules officials determined the ball was close enough to the lip of the hole that, by Rule 13.3a in the Rules of Golf, Korda should have been allowed 10 seconds to approach the ball and see if it might go in.

Quote

"It was a pretty fuzzy picture we were shown, and it was inclusive I would have said," Matthew said after Day 1 concluded.

"I mean, a hundred percent believe Madelene did not, for one instance, think that ball had any chance of going in the hole when he she picked it up, and I don't honestly believe Nelly or Ally actually thought it was going to go in, either."

  1. I think the rules officials blew it on the Korda/Sagstom call.  That ball was not going to drop.  Korda never complained and the rules official stepped in and made a bad call.  IMO It  makes golf look bad.

I am enjoying watching the Solhiem even though  the guys are on a different channel.

Korda didn’t do anything.

Nope. She was obligated to do so there.

Wasn’t it Korda who said the ball was picked up before 10 seconds?

Really, that ball did not appear to be overhanging to me.  Are they obligated to wait 10 seconds on all shots before picking it up?

No, I think only ones that may have a chance of going in. Hence the review assuming it was not just to confirm less than 10 seconds before ball picked up.

Feel bad for Sagstorm for a brainfart but I don't see how anyone else blew anything.

Pretty vague. The ball had come to a rest yeah? It wasn’t hanging over the edge from the commentary I heard on the radio announcers. Seems a little squirmy to call the 10sec on a ball that’s stopped and not overhanging the edge. But none of this matters. The ruling was made. And that’s that.

It wasn’t Korda, it was the rules officials watching the broadcast. Even her competitors didn’t think Korda thought it would go in. So again, I wasn’t Korda or her teammate complaining at all. Looks like Korda was just watching as Sagstrom went and conceded the birdie putt and picked up the ball.

I would love to be a fly on the inside of Sagstrom's brain.  What was she really thinking?  Let me pick this thing up before it accidently falls in.  Or, it's obvious to the whole golfing world this ball ain't moving so let me do Ms. Korda a favor.  Nevertheless, it was still a ball in play for at least 2 more seconds...

Ok. It was poorly explained on the radio broadcast I was listening to. The announcer even said ‘ Hey I’m for the Americans but I don’t think Korda should’ve called that one.’ But I must say…the ball was clearly at rest and not overhanging.

‘Poorly explained’ and ‘radio announcer’ go hand in hand! 😜

Fair point. I guess judgement call by RO.

Well unfortunately after watching the video a few times it’s just one of those ‘porked’ moments. Euro picked up the ball 7sec after it stopped. It was too close to do that. When the Euros argued that ‘ it wasn’t going in’ well, then why not just wait the full time allotted? Just let Korda pick it up. Sucks, but that’s the rule.

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
