Planning on playing Angel Park the end of next month. Got an email from them suggesting using "Golf Cash".

Never heard of it until just now. Anyone ever used it?

BTW - Here's the video linked in the email. The best part of this video is when the guy pays for 4 tee-times yet you never see another player with him. Imaginary friends I guess.

I guess I don't understand why a course would want to do this?

And then on top of that, what incentive would I have as a player to use this over traditional methods like cash, card, paying online? It sounded like he got a $10 credit for using the app, but I'd assume that'd be a one time credit for signing up right?

There's got to be some kind of fee for either the course or the player, right? How else would the app make money?

The only way I could see this possibly being beneficial to the course is if the fees for using this app were substantially lower than the credit card processing fees.

Honestly seems like more hassle than it's worth, especially for the beverage cart scenario. I typically put my phone in my bag at the beginning of the round and don't touch it until the end.  Especially considering some of the courses I play are out in the middle of nowhere with spotty cell service, seems easier to just use the credit card when at the pro shop for the greens fees/drinks, and then cash if they happen to have a beverage cart, and I've also seen plenty of the beverage carts accepting card now as well.

The only way I would see myself using this consistently is if things were cheaper on every transaction if I used the app vs. not using the app.

It's probably because it's like a gift card: you load $150 on there, but forget about it after you spend $114, and so they make $36.

Even if it's not quite that much, since you don't know the exact amount and you'll probably just pre-load like $50 or $20 increments, they might "make" $6 at a time from a lot of people. Plus the money sits in their account instead of yours, even if you do eventually spend it all.

No?

Plus they do save money on fees: transaction fees are often (for example): $0.29 + 2.9%. So if you do it $150 at a time, that's $4.64. Do it as 5 $30 transactions and that's $5.80.

I love the “I’m going to pay with golf cash” in the pro shop, said with the enthusiasm of someone who just hit their ball in a lake.

Isn't the actual App "Angle Park"?
If you look up "Golf Cash" it's listed as a Game.
It's actually common for Golf Courses to have their own Mobile App.
Several courses I play have them and it allows users many specific benefits, but don't recall the Golf Cash application being used. I did find a course in Portland which is using the method of pay.
$40 bucks to play is very reasonable, especially for Vegas.

Langdon Farms Golf Club accepts GolfCash payments anywhere from the Golf Shop for Green Fees and Merchandise to the various on course Food and Beverage services to its full-service bar and restaurant, Langdon’s Grill, by simply entering the amount owned into the app and pressing pay.

After downloading their smartphone app for Apple or Android devices, anyone can load up with GolfCash at varying denominations.  Reload amounts currently range from $100 to $600 where you will receive anywhere from a 3% to 10% discount on your money.  With currently up to $60 in savings available, there’s no better way to pay at one of the best golf courses in Portland.

Yes, I have the Angel Park Ap. I also have Bear's Best, Revere, Wolf Creek and a few others.

But I found it interesting that the course also suggested using this "Golf Cash" ap. I'm not going to be using it. I don't see any value in it for me.

BTW- During the time we will be there, for us non-Vegas residents, on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday it is $137 to $155 to play Angel Park. (Unless you play twilight.)

Residents and members obviously get different prices. Plus, like a lot of courses, there are always daily "Deals".
Angel Park does have a few of those "deals" each day. They only sell them 2 weeks out or fewer and usually they are to fill up partially full foursomes, or last minute cancelations.

I agree, it's most likely is targeted towards local golfers who are frequent customers.
It's an interesting marketing concept which may or may not expand to other golf markets. IMO.

    • Day 16: range night! Worked on long game for about 40 minutes, with a good solid 20 minute focus on my priority piece. Things improving there. Bookended that with some wedge and driver work. Finished up with about 30 minutes of short game. Working on distance control and all types of shots and lies. Short game is probably as good as it has ever been.
    • You should be able to install it yourself, honestly. You could easily blow it on and use some one-sided duct tape or something so it stays in place. That's what I've done with one of my grips.
    • Day 22 (12 July 26) - worked on putting tempo today using metronome for accurate tempo.
    • Hi all, My Edel putter seems to have developed a rattle.  I don't think it's a big deal, as I mostly hear it when I'm tapping down ball marks on greens.  However, I am debating getting it fixed, especially as I intend to play a lot of golf in August and September, and to continue playing regularly after that of course too.  My issue is I think fixing it would entail the fixer (golf shop repair station?) removing the grip and, presumably, applying a new one.  My problem is two-fold.   First, I like the grip on it, although after eleven years, maybe it's worth replacing.   The bigger (second) issue is getting the grip.  I don't like the flat-fronted putter grips anymore.  I have the round one on my putter, and I suppose I could buy one from Edel's website, but would a golf shop install a grip I bought elsewhere and brought in?  Or could they order one if Edel is not a supplier of theirs?  I don't recall ever seeing any Edel products in a Roger Dunn or PGA Superstore, although the era when I would go to a store and browse has long since ended (for better or worse).  I'd also wonder what the timetable is, as I'm leaving for a seven week trip in under three weeks. Any suggestions on what to do would be very welcome, whether about the rattle or the grip, together or independently.  Thank you!
    • I'm glad to know that picking up grass and letting it go doesn't help.  It felt like it shouldn't, but I'm glad to hear there's a good reason why.  It makes sense that wind is different higher up than it is near the surface. For a while, I was in the habit of checking the prevailing wind direction before playing.  That helped if I wasn't sure.  However, I still am not really sure whether something is a 5% wind or a 10% wind (and, of course, I know that a "helping" wind helps about half as much as the same wind hurting).   One of these days, I'll learn how to figure out what to do differently if the prevailing wind is 10mph vs 20 mph.
