I've been playing with a set of top fliteXL  box set of clubs, Have replaced the driver with a titliest and put in a set of wedges. The clubs honestly aren't used that much, work family you know the drill. I hit the irons well but they are big and clunky looking. I found a set of decent looking MX-25s 6 iron through PW, which will perfectly replace club for club the irons in my set. would these irons be an upgrade for about $125 with shipping?

I think just about anything would be an upgrade from those.😁

Those are nice irons and $125 is a fair price if they’re in good shape.  I’d consider them an upgrade from the typical Top Flite set.

Another suggestion to check out from that timeframe are the Titleist 775 cb.  Also nice irons and you can find them at good prices.

I just saw that the set i was looking at was -.5 in length i need standard. I did see the same store has some MX-23s a bit older but in good shape. would these be a decent upgrade for a high handy cap fair weather golfer?

You can buy shaft extensions, for cheap, from a component supplier.  It is a simple matter to install them when you re-grip.

In der bag:
Cleveland Hi-Bore driver, Maltby 5 wood, Maltby hybrid, Maltby irons and wedges (23 to 50) Vokey 59/07, Cleveland Niblick (LH-42), and a Maltby mallet putter.                                                                                                                                                 "When the going gets tough...it's tough to get going."

That’s a bit much for just wanting to upgrade some clubs. Much easier to just get the length you need. 🙂

Just saying @Vinsk.  Chances are you would re-grip an old set anyway.  And why pass on a set of clubs just to save yourself, or a repair person, a few minutes time?

The new to me irons arrived today, They look and feel to be in great shape, I can already tell they may be a huge improvement to the top flites. I hope to get a chance to hit them this weekend.

Nice clubs.  MX-23's were my entry irons to the Mizuno family, and I have stayed in the stable with MP-52's, and just late last year, bought my second new set of irons in my lifetime - JPX 921 Forged.

I also added the ST-200 Driver and 3W to the bag last season, and have been happy with them.

Mizunos feel good, give great response / feedback, and will be a huge improvement over the T Flites.

Enjoy.

Remember that they are going to feel different for a little while. Contact can also sound different. Their overall weight and swing weight maybe different too. So don’t be concerned right away by the difference and keep working with them.

A good drill to do is a center contact drill. Get a dry erase marker and either mark the club face or the ball and see where impact is when you hit. Your old irons may have made off center hits feel okay. The Mizunos will give you different feedback on off center hits. Keep working on that drill, adjust setup and try to get center face contact.

I too have played Mizuno Irons for a number of years. I have tried others but end up coming back to one version or another of Mizuno irons. Ironically, I only play Mizuno irons. Everything else in the bag is from another manufacturer. I guess maybe someday I should try their driver etc.?

My bag:

Taylor Made R7 (x-stiff).
Taylor Made Burner 2 irons (stiff)
Cleveland Wedges (gap and 60)
Odyssey two ball putter (white)

got after a few trips to the range got to play 9 with the new to me irons last Sunday. They played and felt really good, It is very nice to have the ball go where it is aimed. The topflite irons always went left of aim. I think I hit them a bit farther too.

I love my Mizuno irons. I’ve had 3 sets, and I’m about to get fitted for a new set. Like you, I started with a cheaper box set then upgraded to Mizuno. I’ve never looked back over 19 years of playing them. There is no feel like a Mizuno, in my opinion.

Welcome to the Mizuno family!!

I was playing MX20's till I decided my game needed a bit more forgiveness.  They are great clubs, but only slightly more forgiving than an angry woman.

    • the rules have changed, but this would fall under 11.2 in the current rules.  General Penalty to any player who deliberately deflects a ball in motion, and you must replay the putt.
    • Day 250 4-29 Getting chest through with speed on downswing and wrist arch. Also worked on some moving the pelvis slightly away in the backswing. Feel like im going too fast and long, looks like it on the recordings too.
    • Interesting that it's no penalty, but then again, I can't imagine someone would purposefully put their foot out there in this situation or one like it.  And then there was the time someone purposefully deflected his own ball during a major, but that's very different too. The only time I can recall a ball I hit hitting another player or their equipment was ages ago -- over a decade and a half ago.  I had a 3' putt for an 89 and someone (a random pairing, not someone I knew) decided it was a good time for goaltending practice.  That wouldn't fall under this rule, though (and it wasn't in a tournament anyway). Thanks for continuing to share these, Dave!  I always find these interesting.
    • Day 51 (29 Apr 26) - Worked with a few of the golf team kids plus my grandson (he’s too young for the team as it’s middle-high school age and he’ll be 10 Sat).  He put on a small hitting clinic (hitting off the same tees as the rest of the boys) - one of the older kids called him a “coach”.  Worked in a few shots for myself - had the light bag: driver, 7w, 4 - 6 - 8 - Pw - Sw (DCI 962’s except the Sw a 981) and Zebra putter….got in some great tee shots, a couple of recovery and an awesome up and down for bogie: 55 yds out, hitting 4th shot due to 2nd getting tangled in limbs - see the window I need to hit for a tight spinner with the Sw - nail it to a postage letter distance from the cup for a tap in bogie….my kind of practice.
    • Day 21, April 29.  Before going to work this morning, I worked in my indoor practice room for 20 minutes.   This was entirely 6-iron shots with the usual step.  Video yesterday showed me that I'm still straightening my trail leg too much (leading to the backswing length issue I've been working to fix), so I focused on not doing that in my rehearsal swings.
