Maybe I havent been playing long enough to become "jaded", but I could care less how good someone is, or how fast/slow they play. I play golf to have a good time. I will never be a pro....nor do I want to put the practice or effort in that it would take to even attempt it. Sometimes I think people take the GAME way too seriously. I understand wanting to play well and improve....but unless you make a living at it, I dont see it being worth a temper tantrum. I cant help but laugh at some of the other members I encounter at Muirfield. I can see why a good percentage of people think of golf as only a sport for the rich and spoiled.

i don't mind. its another obstacle to try to play around.
if the jr. is a better player than me, i like the pressure to compete.
if the jr. is a worse player than me, i like trying to keep myself in the zone. try not to let the slow play bother me.

playing with others better or worse is good to have to help further your skill.
some people complain that slow players ruin the pace of your game. but thats just an excuse for not hitting your shots the way you intended or hoped. golf is 40 % physical but 60 % mental IMO.

Couldn't agree more. I have been playing this game for 30 years and I still feel that it is a "Game". There was a time when I was really serious about it but I still didn't mind juniors or slow play.

I lived in AK for 4 years and you want to experience slow play just go out to Eagleglen GC on a nice day. Man 6 hour rounds and waiting lines to the starter shack. It was freakin amazing.....lol Still one of my favorite GC's of all time.

Since i work nights it gives me the opportunity to go out on the weekdays. And everyone is a senior citizen. I dont think they mind me tagging along at all. I know a few pretty well now. Who knows, maybe one day i'll get a mysterious call from a lawyer saying i got some free money. Or maybe even just some free really old golf clubs.

I did not read through the whole thread, but just the first couple of pages. I am about to be 36 and had a club in my hand since I was 5. I played my first 18 when I just turned 7. I played a little junior golf and in HS. My partner and I spent many a round getting glares from other groups or people not really wanting to play with us. I was easily shooting in the 80s when I was 13 and 14. I hated the feeling of not being welcomed.

That is why today I don't care who I play with as long as they are decent people.

Same here! I enjoy play with people off all ages as long as they are friendly.

Several years ago I accompanied my husband when he was qualifying for the Public Links. In his group there was a 16year old. The young man's mother walked the entire 18 standing out of his sight behind trees. I was impressed with his maturity in the game. Can't recall if he qualified or not but I did make a point to go up to him and tell him how well he played.
