I do like the new interface where there is a tab at the top for either to show people you follow or stuff their AI thinks you’d want to read. Sometimes I just like to see stuff from people I follow only.

That is something that Post.news (Twitter alternative) has been doing since its beginning.

Nah… it's a step back because they now force it into the "For You" frequently (every app launch, etc.), when previously you could set the timeline to be chronological ("Latest Tweets") and it would stay. They've had these two choices for awhile now, but now they force it to the non-chronological one far more often.

I'm more than a little concerned about promoting the "AI thinks you want to read" to a first class function. It's bad enough when apps like Facebook did it, but "newsy" apps like Twitter do it, it just perpetuates the growth of "echo chambers" where people aren't exposed to differing views and info.

Yep. It's one thing when it just shows me a bunch of golf stuff, but history shows us that it doesn't just do that kind of topic, because that doesn't "promote engagement."

I’m trying to figure out what Musk’s end game is, or if he’s just made a couple of horrific financial decisions in buying Twitter and leveraging Tesla to do it.

He wanted to buy a new toy, and didn't realize that his personality and stupidity (?) would tank it so much?

Possibly he’s just that bad at introspection I guess.

I always thought he just really thought he was the smartest guy in every room and also got high on his fame while thinking critics just didn’t “get it” and were beneath him.

When you have that kind of wealth, it’s just a different world, a different reality. Eventually anything of the common world is lost.

He championed himself as a advocate for free speech. Then brought back a lot of ultra right wing personalities. I think Musk was under the impression that bringing some of these characters back would bring more of their fans with them.
I also believe he thought Trump was going to come back. But due to contractual reasons he cant. So here he thought all these followers were going to come back, when in fact many of their follower were either bots or fake accounts.

However, advertisers typically run from platforms that are filled with hate speech. In reality hate and racism does not generate revenue

When he tied himself to right wing politics, It appears that he did not understand that Tesla could also suffer.  you can make fun of the "liberals" all you want, but they are the ones buying electric cars.

He is surrounded by "yes" people who are not provide any convincing arguments to him.  Reminds me of the following quote.

“If you're dumb, surround yourself with smart people. If you're smart, surround yourself with smart people who disagree with you."

I thought this was a funny explanation of why the blue check mark stuff is going to be bad:

I don’t know that it will kill Twitter, but it doesn’t seem smart. At least, for now, Twitter still puts replies by people you follow first.

I had a blue check since it was offered… because I liked the Top Articles feature, the edit feature… and not much else.

I've since canceled my subscription, and it'll go away in a few weeks. The backlash is likely very real, and I don't want to put up with that.

Are you off Twitter entirely?

No. Tweets by me are on the sidebar of this site.

The Wall Street regulator is investigating potential violations of U.S. securities laws regarding Musk's deal to acquire Twitter, now X.

    • Day (2 May 24) - somehow I missed posting both Tues and Weds practice sessions - so the streak ends and a new one begins…. Focus today was on ball first contact using the Divot Board for reference.   Worked with 7i, 9i and GW hitting hard foam balls.  Started hap hazardly and then settled back into my pre-shot setup.  Much more consistent in the latter.
    • So, Newey is out at Red Bull. Where does he go in a year? Is Max still with RBR in 2026? Hmmmm.
    • August 2010 Woodfin Ridge 18th hole Playing in a large tournament with a slew of friends and the last day was two man best ball. The 18th, when it was bent grass, was very fast due to a steep slope on the right side. I had seen many people over the years putt off the green from above the hole. I hit a great drive and 3W to 30’ left of the hole. With everyone watching my partner hit it way too fast and never high enough and his ball rolled all the way to the bottom of the green.  I hit mine much higher and the ball came to rest about 20” above the hole. Then it slowly started trickling towards the hole for a walkoff eagle! Nobody said anything except my partner who was yelling pretty loudly. I looked at the crowd and told them it was okay to clap because it was a great putt, and they gave me a bunch of polite golf claps and brought me a beer!
    • Day 127: 5/2/24 Stack Full Speed spectrum training session 6/24. Training speed was 5 mph higher than previous high, as was e-speed. Still not as high as I have done in previous programs, but just 1 mph lower. Battling through a neck issue, and possible trigger fingers. Happy with results.
    • Day 49. Played 9 from tees a bit beyond my comfort zone and was humbled. Hit a couple good shots so will take that at least.
