2023 TST Birdie Challenge

My "Home Course" season ended 11/12/2023. I was a bit disappointed in the -7 total, but the number was in line with previous seasons. Unless I manage to eagle a hole during the off season, my "Away" results are also final. Now the process of looking forward to the 2024 season begins.

I did not meet the goal this year. I missed out on 8, 10, 14 (!), and 18.

I didn't play much June through August, seeing as how we were moving Golf Evolution. And when I did, I was mostly "practicing" on the golf course. So, I'm not disappointed.

Eagles were down this year as well, of course.

I only birdied 8 of the holes on "My Home Course". By way of comparison, last year I was able to check off 14 of them, not quite twice as many.

Having said that, I did play a lot of other courses this year. I tried out at least 7 or 8 courses which I've never played before this year. I only played 3 full rounds on my "Home Course" this year. I did, of course, play 12 or 13 Nine-Hole-Rounds in the weekly golf league at my home course. So that added a few birdies.

My final round at my home course I actually made 2 birdies. But they were both on holes that I already had.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Best this year 4x birdies in a round... really like to get 5x+

Got the 16th PAR4 birdie  .. in SAT medal comp ... a long very hard putt that just dropped somehow ...(couldn't do it again if I tried 50x times!!!)

Got out on Friday and played Whispering Woods, including birdieing the 18th, so technically I can cross that one off. Just 8, 10, and 14 of all holes.

I just realized I kept referring to 14, but I birdied 14 many times this year. 13 is the hole I haven't birdied (plus 8 and 10).

The spreadsheet is right, though. And has been.

    • Day 120 - Played 18; much better than yesterday. Miss right now is off the heel of the club, so I need to sort that out.
    • Today we played Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, NH. Course was in great shape but my game didn't show up. I will say I pitched and chipped fairly well but almost everything else was very hit or miss. Cost myself a lot hitting an in play drive with pulling my approach shots maybe 85% of the time. Finally figured out I had been swaying most of the round. Only took me until 13 to figure it out. Used what felt like a much more centered turn and the ballstriking improved. 18 tomorrow using a 2 man scramble format. Just looking to contribute. Been a blast though.
    • Day 22: Hit balls with 7-iron using mevo+ to track dispersion. Was out for a long time after work; 86 balls but the first 50+ were 50% swings focusing on top of backswing feel and then just hitting the ball as a psychic reward. Finished with 20 balls close to full speed. Pretty happy with dispersion and also no horrendous misses. I’m chunking my priority piece out into two separate feels, first and more important is the position/balance at top of backswing which is what I was working on. Once I have that engrained I’ll move to transition part.
    • FWIW I never really had issues with the previous generation of Snells. But… I'm not sure I played them a ton, either.
    • I know Dean Snell designed the original Pro V along with a couple of other brands tour balls.  How exactly does the Snell ball have problems.  Did he change something in the design or is a manufacturing error since he cannot afford the unlimited R&D budgets of the big manufacturers to iron out flaws
