Am I Using the Correct Driver Loft?

Recommended Posts

I have a 10.5 head and also a 12 degree head, the data below is from hitting a drive with a 10.5 head, just wondering if anyone could confirm a 10.5 is correct and whether the 12 would generate too high of a launch angle and too high spin just so I can commit to playing the correct head?

Club speed: 95mph

Launch angle: 14.9 degrees

Attack angle: 3.0 upwards

Backspin; 2700

 Carry: 225

Total: 245

Thanks!

You didn’t get any numbers with the 12.5*?

You can use a piece of software like this one to guestimate your distance with either club head.

FlightScope's Trajectory Optimizer is a golf ball flight trajectory program. The program will plot the flight of the ball in real time after the user's input of the initial launch conditions of the golf ball. Based on scientific algorithms, ...

The trouble you will have is you are right at the knee of the curve. Either club could be better, it will depend on how you deliver it.
As @Vinsk mentioned above without numbers on the 12.5 head, you will always be guessing as to what spin rate that club will produce.

So, your question becomes difficult to answer as there's simply not enough data.

The good news is, either one will likely be pretty close.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Unfortunately not, I just had a quick 30 minute session on a GC Quad but had the 12 degree at home annoyingly.

Thank you for the response - I guess then the most obvious thing would be to get back on a simulator and just compare them directly against eachother!

Based on your club speed, I would think that launch angle and spin numbers are a little higher than desirable, but certainly not bad.  Would think your carry could be a little farther as well, with your swing speed (obviously impacted by the factors you shared).  That 10.5 degree driver is probably a solid option, maybe some other things to tweak (swing, alignment, ball position) that could improve the numbers?

That said, I’m certainly no expert on the numbers either.

You can plug in some of your numbers like ball speed, spin, etc. and then vary launch and see how it changes.

My experience. I can clearly hit my 10° driver farther than my 12° driver. No doubt about that. But I sometimes slice the ball and with the 10° the slice is bad. On the other hand, the 12° flies higher, with more back spin and less distance, but straighter. I hit more fairways with it.

In an ideal scenario I would recommend hitting again at the place with the GC Quad and going head to head between the two drivers.  There are many variables that can alter your spin, distance and other metrics.  Also, don't focus only on distance when selecting the driver.  Accuracy and dispersion is just as if not more important, especially if you play on tight courses

    • There seems to be a lot of buzz around the new Maxfli Tour and TourS balls, especially with a handful of tour pros signing on to play them. My understanding is that the Tour is similar to the Titleist ProV1 and TourS is like the Titleist AVX. Has anyone played them? My main concern is that while I liked the feel and performance of the Maxfli balls of many years ago, I found the paint job on them was lousy. The finish looked a bit faded right out of the box, and after a few holes they had faded even more, and sometimes the paint was actually coming off. I'm hoping to find out if they are using a different factory or improved their paint process.  Opinions, please.
    • Day 298: range session during lunch. Hit balls for about 20 minutes, focusing on start line and curve. Much better than last night. Then did a stack putting session, which was solid (for me).
    • Day 2 (3 May 24) - Played 18 with the Men’s group today….a fun round in which my elderly neighbor was part of the foursome I was in.
    • You advertise LIV as "golf but louder" You had DJ's pumping Jock Jams all over the place. You have Bros who are really into golf and TFG shot gunning 26 oz bud lights, while double fisting a 19 oz coors. What type of behavior do you expect?
    • Did LIV pros cross ‘etiquette’ line at Masters? 3-time major winner has thought Did LIV Golf pros cross an “etiquette” line last month at the Masters? Three-time major winner Padraig Harrington has a thought. I do not mind cursing. I rather see some emotion on the course and honest reactions to bad shots or what not. I didn't catch it being a TON of cursing in this Masters. It was not noticeable.
