I enjoyed watching him on the Champions Tour, even if his sword fighting stuff got old the third time in a round you'd see it. 😄

I was lucky enough to see him in a fund-raising event in about 1974, with such luminaries as Joe DiMaggio, Ron Swoboda, Bruce Jenner, Jane Blalock, and others.  Chi chi was far and away the most entertaining one.  He talked non-stop, right through his swing.  And the sword fighting schtick was pretty fresh back then.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

He was definitely a showman and was fun to watch.

I hope he got a kick out of this clip from WKRP in Cincinnati back in the day.

He was colorful to say the least.  Have watched a number of old clips of his play on YouTube in the past and always got a kick out of his banter.

Chi Chi was a very popular player at the old IVB Golf Classic (1963-1980) at Whitemarsh Valley outside of Philly. He was like the Pied Piper with kids. I remember him putting his hat over the hole after holing a big putt on 18 and then doing his sword dance. The crowd went wild. His playing companions, not so much, as he was leaving spike marks all around the hole.

Here's a pic from the 60's with my now-74-year-old sister cheering him on. RIP.
