And they’re off! Should be an interesting tournament. Pulling for Rory to finally break through.

One of the best weeks of the year!

Rooting for Rory as well, but I'm also bracing for the sad letdown. He's had a great season to this point tho, so maybe this is finally it.

Pretty optimal conditions right now. 67F with 10mph wind.

Rose heard your call.

I’d be happy with Viktor or Rory. Preferably not a previous winner, but most important is some excitement and multiple players in contention.

I just realized we’ll be watching Garcia, Reed etc. for decades to come. What fun.

Why if you're just going to wait next? Are they behind? Rounds took over five hours yesterday.

Announcing;  it bugs me when they ask “Are you proud of yourself?”  “Are you proud of the way you played?”  “Are you proud of this or that?”  In what other sport do the announcers-interviewers ask this annoying question?

And then the golfers have to answer… “I was really proud of myself when.. yada yada"

Tyrell Hatton, 16th hole;  Following his reaction to his tee shot, after his first putt I thought his head was going to explode.  He’s kinda entertaining that way, I think he’s the top contender for ‘most likely to explode'

Rich Hunt has as usual (since 2013) predicted the 20 players most likely to win based mostly on data. Here's the state of things after two rounds. "Top 10" means it's his personal predition of the 10 mostlikely to win of those 20. Rose was filtered out based on lack of distance off the tee, but with his 300 average he's just over the tour average and longer than several other players that made the top 20 shortlist (Lowry, Hovland, Cantlay +), so I don't understand how that works. Maybe certain metrics overrule other metrics?

Score Player Starting odds (#/1) Top 10
-7 Bryson DeChambeau 14 V
-6 Corey Conners 65 V
-6 Rory McIlroy 6.5 V
-5 Shane Lowry 40 V
-5 Scottie Scheffler 5 V
-4 Viktor Hovland 35 V
-3 Patrick Reed 80
-2 Xander Schauffele 20 V
-1 Min Woo Lee 40 V
-1 Jon Rahm 16 V
+1 Byeong Hun An 150
+1 Patrick Cantlay 40
+1 JJ Spaun 175
E Justin Thomas 25 V
CUT Keegan Bradley 100
CUT Tony Finau 80
CUT Sergio Garcia 80
CUT Nicolai Højgaard 200

    • There's no such thing as the spirit of the rule. And, you do realize how insanely small the time window and the level of water is for water to come up with one person standing there but not another person, right? It's basically never going to actually happen like that. There are lots of rules like this: a 7' tall person's knee height drop is from higher up than a 4' tall junior's drop. Their driver is also longer, so they get a larger relief area. What are you gonna do? Beyond that, my reply to you is the same as @DaveP043's: write a better one. This one is easy to understand and enforce. The penalty for playing from a wrong place is two strokes, so no, it's not significant. In that sense, the potential advantage must be > 2 strokes. No, it's not "irrespective of it." That's why the penalty exists. If it's significant, it's a DQ, which is the ultimate penalty. See above. They don't need to judge that. No, he didn't. He could have taken one stroke to drop in the same place. This was already stated. Instead, he paid two. Of course they do.
    • Yes, a ball going faster will go farther… but it's nearly impossible for "all other parameters" to remain the same. "A ball going faster with the same of everything else will go farther" is pretty rudimentary stuff. The entire swing. The handle moves the whole time. The golf swing is a matter of both translational and rotational forces. And yet it's also kicked out a little, as it's not directly behind the motion of the hand path at that instant.
    • bought a used epic driver 3 years ago treated me well i am 72 bought with senior shaft a friend of bought a brand new  ping 440 claims he hits straighter and added 10 to 15 yards on his drive i know drivers are the most frequent club bought is a new driver that much better
    • It's true that it is not always clear where to draw the line of "significant". But I would argue that saving half a stroke or more is definitely more than significant. According to the common meaning of "significant", which is all we have because the word is not defined elsewhere in the rules.  This is irrespective of the two stroke penalty for playing from a wrong place. That penalty is only for when there was no significant advantage.  And it is possible to tell to some certainty whether a stroke or half a stroke was saved by such tools as strokes-gained, experience of officials, etc. Applying the conditions listed in the definition of serious breach.  In the example in which a player gave themselves free relief from a boundary object, if relief was necessary, then that wrong place gave a significant advantage.  Though apparently there is some sort of verbal tradition that tournament officials have a higher standard of what they consider "significant". Much higher than one stroke. And they like to take into account that the player already received a two-stroke penalty, though that is not in the rules for determining what is a "significant advantage".
