Apologies if this topic has already been discussed but I need some help, its where my ball is going after I strike it,the irons especially, the problem is hitting say a 6 iron my ball likes to go through the atmosphere, seriously it goes up to the moon,I know a high flight is desirable but its killing my distances, the strike feels great I admit but if my ball flight was lower then I would get more distance out of it,my metal drives are fine it's just mid irons, any advice much appreciated...

A few things...

1) Increasing dynamic loft, how you present loft at impact
2) Clubhead design
3) Golf shaft

With out seeing your golf swing, it hard to say why. I recommend starting a My Swing thread.

Thank you for your tips, you think I would be better going from a regular shaft to a stiff?...I never thought of that but I will maybe try that out by buying a bog standard 6 iron with a stiff flex just to see if that lowers the flight of the ball

Go get fit for clubs if you want clarity. Golf flex is not standard. A stiff shaft in one golf shaft might not even be a regular flex in another golf shaft.

I'm not sure stiff vs regular will do anything for you?  It's pretty hard to even determine what is stiff, what is standard as that can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. I think you'd get more bang for your buck by going from a lower kick-point shaft to a high kick-point shaft.

Here's the thing @saevel25 is right. Without seeing your swing it's impossible to really know. Also, what is high to you might not be that high. You really should video your swing.

High is higher than most peoples shots I know,I just feel my shots are high enough that yards are wasted which if lower would increase the length of the shot,as for a video of my golf swing, wow I dont know if I can do that,I mean I would feel embarrassed doing that...lol..

Then not much we can say other than go get fitted for golf clubs and see if that can lower it.

Out of curiosity what clubs do you play currently? Shaft flex?

To be fair, that’s not a standard I would go by. Most people I know hit their shots too low.

Gonna be tough to say much without good video from good angles. Have you seen the Member Swings forum?

Huh?
No.

Why would you just accept it? That doesn't make sense to me. You can start a MySwing thread for free and then either you or somebody else out here may have some ways to help you. You may even be able to diagnose your own problem.

If you are embarrassed by your swing that's all the more reason to record it. Nobody here is going to judge you for your golf swing. ... maybe your fashion sense or your music taste but certainly not your golf swing. 👍🤣👍

I will think about it but I would have to have my sister record it and as I recently put a hole into the outside shed window with a golf shot she might not be overkeen,,,lol

Use a tripod. Pretty essential golf equipment these days anyway.

I dont have a tripod and for just one video I think my sister holding the camera would be the best solution,a question,if my short irons scale Everest in height that would be ok for the clubs sw and say the 8 iron?.

Why just one video? Do you not want to work on your game?

It's fine if you don't want to. Just seemed like you wanted to improve. You'll want to go back and check periodically on your progress.

I'm a big fan of filming the swing from time to time. You'd be surprised what you can learn and probably not surprised how much a good swing coach can glean from the videos. Do be sure to try to follow the advice laid out here: https://thesandtrap.com/b/playing_tips/filming_your_swing

I'd suggest 3 other things. First, get data. It's hard to know what is too high when you aren't collecting data. Second, get data.  It's also hard to know if you are improving without data. Lastly, get data. Borrow, rent, go to a range that provides data collection, get a swing coach who will collect data for you. There's an old saying that goes something like you improve on the things you measure.

You say you are hitting it too high... How do you know? As others have mentioned, most folks hit their clubs too low and don't flight their partial wedges down enough.

Here's some trackman data on Tour Pros:

Take a look at their max height. It's always averaging around 90 to 100 feet. Your numbers will be different, but it gives you a relative idea.

Sometimes I will use the tree height as a reference. I know the common trees in my area, at the range I go to or the course I play. I just pay attention to the peak height of the shot in relation to a tree nearby. Most of the trees on the courses I play are in that 90-100 FT range. We got old tall trees here.

    • It feels like Rory blew his load on the 18th at Augusta. Maybe everyone is underestimating how much that took out of him. Watching McGinley whaling in 'Roaddie' for not stopping by to talk to the press was bit of drag. The dude has given so many interviews and so much of himself over the years, he outghta be able to play with house money sometimes. Jeez, leave him the fak alone.
    • Some positives playing in league tonight.  1st) Making the backswing a more lateral shift, and feeling the left leg and torso resist the turn at the top of the swing is helping out a lot. I got to feel an uncomfortable amount of pause in the backswing to set up the downswing.  2) I need to do a bit of more arm stuff better. Still too much draw or pull draws for my liking.  3) Short game is getting sharp. Many tap-ins tonight. I am trying to make the shortest backswing possible for the shot. It really forces me to stay aggressive with the pivot.
    • Day 43 (12 Jun 25) - Return of the net in the backyard as I set it back up in anticipation of some work with the R10 in coming days.  Used it to hit a few iron shots into the net with the 7i before wrapping up the session with the wedges.
    • Shame to see Rory crash on the back nine. Nice to Spieth play well. Looking forward to seeing Brooks collapse…😂
    • Day 255 - 2025-06-12 Played 18 holes. Started to over-do the crap out of my thing for holes 9-15 a bit, then refreshed it and finished out really well.
